GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has announced the nominees for its 23rd annual Media Awards, honoring "outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in news coverage and entertainment media."
The usual suspects received nods -- as if Lady Gaga or "Glee" couldn't be recognized for all their Lgbt-friendly work -- but a few surprising nominees were included too. For example, "Conan" was recognized for featuring the first gay wedding on late-night TV, and "The Late Show with David Letterman" got its first nod.
The Awards will be given out at multiple ceremonies, including New York City on March 24, Los Angeles on April 21 and San Francisco on June 2.
Check out the rest of the pop culture relevant nominees below, and visit GLAAD's site for the full list of nominees.

Every year GLAAD gives out awards for outstanding Glbt media representation. This year there are 116 nominees competing in 25 media categories - everything from Outstanding Drama Series to Outstanding Comic Book.
"As media continue to tell new stories about Lgbt people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of Lgbt Americans," said Mike Thompson, GLAAD’s Acting President. "This year’s nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of Lgbt people. Viewers know that Lgbt characters and stories are simply natural extensions of, and glimpses into, their own experiences from across America."
Winners will be announced at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York on March 24, 2012 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square; in Los Angeles on April 21 at the Westin Bonaventure; and in San...

Conan O’Brien hosted his shows under a different moon this week, one hanging in the Beacon Theater. Score one for Team CoCo! Conan O'Brien, who was back in New York City this week to shoot his TBS talk show, certainly ended his stint in the Big Apple on a high note. Make that an incredibly romantic note. On Thursday night's program, O'Brien officiated the wedding of the show's costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner, David Gorshein. The same-sex marriage was conducted at New York's Beacon Theater in front of the couple's friends, families, loved ones and, of course, all of us watching at home. And O'Brien made it clear this wasn't some sort of joke. "This is for real," he said. "We are gathered here today in this beautiful...

Conan O'Brien finished off his week-long return to New York by doing something he can't yet do in his California studio, conduct a gay wedding.
The late-night host led the televised marriage ceremony between his show's costume designer Scott Cronick and boyfriend David Gorshein. This all happened in front of a packed house at the Beacon Theatre on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
The comedy component of the affair was at an absolute minimum. In Gorshein's vows he says to Cronick, "Anyone in the world would be happy to wear one of your designs, but no one is possibly happier than I am to wear your ring."
Cronick thoughts were equally heartfelt.
"I have only one vow for you. I vow to fill your every day with so much love. Cameras or no cameras, I am here today and I am yours forever," he says to Gorshein.
O'Brien then pronounced the...

In New York City for a week of shows, Conan O'Brien decided to do something he couldn't do in California, where his TBS show normally tapes. He performed a same-sex marriage ceremony for his show's costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner, David Gorshein.
O'Brien officiated the ceremony after getting ordained online by the Universal Life Church Monastery. The set was decorated in a fall-like fashion and Scott was escorted across the stage by his favorite celebrity, Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen. The ceremony was brief but truly touching.
Check it out below and watch O'Brien's ordination process after the jump.

To say that Conan O’Brien made the most of his time back in New York City during his week-long stint would be an understatement. O’Brien, among other things, worked as a Chinese food delivery man, peddled along Central Park as a pedicab driver, and played a round of New York trivia with Mayor Michael Bloomberg. (Even the most seasoned, lifelong New Yorkers can’t brag about having done that!)

Conan O'Brien made history last night -- and we're not talking about the one-year-anniversary of his show on TBS. While filming in NYC, the talk show host officiated the marriage between " Conan " costume designer Scott Cronick and longtime partner David Gorshein on the show. Conan was able to pull some strings and get one of the groom's favorite celebrities to walk him down the aisle: Andy Cohen ! New York became the sixth state to legalize gay marriage back in June. As planned, Conan O'Brien officiated a same-sex wedding on his show last night, capping off a week-long stint in New York. The ceremony, between Conan's costume designer Scott Cronick and Cronick's longtime partner David Gorshtein, took place onstage under a chuppah, after Cronick was walked down the aisle by Bravo's Andy Cohen. In spite of all the spectacle, the actual ceremony is still genuinely moving, and may or may not have made me cry a little at my desk. Granted, that's not too hard to do, but still, a heartwarming way to start the weekend. Plus, besides being a first for the obvious reasons, this ceremony also marks the first time a talk-show wedding has held real emotional resonance. Everyone [...]...

In case you hadn't heard, Conan O'Brien decided to "push the envelope" on late night TV last night, when he celebrated the one year anniversary of his TBS show by officiating the marriage between 'Conan' costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner David Gorshein.
The ceremony marked the end of O'Brien's visit to New York City, where the comedian hosted 'Late Night' on NBC for 16 years.
Apparently, Cronick and Gorshein were already planning to wed while the show was visiting New York, since gay marriage is still not legal in California, but instead of marrying at city hall, O'Brien suggested they perform the ceremony on stage at the Beacon Theater instead.
