Damon Wayans Jr. and Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor have engaged David F. Walker to co-write and Ben Bishop to illustrate graphic novel “Shogun Run.”
Wayans Jr and Bachelor had revealed earlier this year that they would create and write the graphic novel. Set in 1990s South Central Los Angeles, “Shogun Run” is described as “Big Trouble in Little China” meets “Attack the Block.” David Uslan, Gary Glushon and Sean Oswolo will serve as creative advisors and producing partners on the project.
Walker is best known for graphic novel “Shaft: A Complicated Man” as well as the Will Eisner Award-winning comic book series “Bitter Root.” Bishop is known for his work on the New York Times bestseller “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.”
“Shogun Run” will be published by First Second, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, in 2025. A series or film adaptation of the graphic novel is on the cards down the line.

Over the weekend, Usher was announced as the headlining performer of the Super Bowl Lviii Halftime Show in Las Vegas. With a catalog going back 30 years that includes 18 Top 10 hits (nine of which reached Number One), Usher is in many ways a no-brainer for the showcase. The halftime show is a rite of passage for American music’s top-tier stars, and Usher deserves to be in that pantheon.
Since the announcement, music fans have celebrated the R&b icon getting his figurative flowers, joking about what Y2K-era outfit they...

Exclusive: WME literary packaging vet Eric Reid has been promoted to partner at the agency.
He has a long history of taking projects from book to screen, focusing on comic books, graphic novels, estates, books, life rights, news articles and all things IP-related.
Reid is known for his knack of finding comic book diamonds in the rough at comic book conventions, prime pieces of IP outside the DC and Marvel sphere.
Among the recent projects Reid has been involved with are the sci-fi thriller Trespasser, which Joe Penna is directing for Fifth Season. The feature is based off the Justin M. Ryan’s 2017 Alterna Comics graphic novel, which Reid discovered at a Florida comic book convention.
Reid’s client Hannah Rose May recently had her Image Comics comic book Rogues Gallery optioned by Don Cheadle’s This Radicle Act to be developed into a TV series, as Deadline first reported.

Exclusive: The Iron Man franchise actor’s production label This Radicle Act has optioned Hannah Rose May’s Image Comics comic book Rogues’ Gallery in a competitive situation, Deadline has learned. Don Cheadle has a first look with Industrial Media and the plan is to adapt Rogues’ Gallery into a TV series.
May wrote and created the high concept home invasion thriller, which is set against the backdrop of toxic fandom and obsession, which has art by Marvel’s Spiderpunk artist, Justin Mason.
Rogues’ Gallery follows Maisie Wade, who has just quit her role as the Red Rogue, a massively popular comic book character. But when her abrupt exit from Red Rogue’s hit TV series leads to its unceremonious cancellation, Maisie finds herself trapped in her own home by a group of unhinged superfans. Dressed up in the cosplay of the Red Rogue’s arch villains, these diehards want to teach Maisie a lesson.

Who is Elly Conway? The answer to that is proving elusive.
The simple answer is that Conway is a first-time novelist whose upcoming spy thriller, Argylle, has already been adapted into a major motion picture with an all-star cast that includes Henry Cavill, Ariana DeBose, Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard and Dua Lipa in her screen debut.
The deal cost Apple a whopping 200 million, according to industry reports, which guarantees only a single film — one that might launch a new movie franchise.
“When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ‘50s,” director Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise, X-Men: First Class) gushed when the project was announced in August 2021. “This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”
That may be so, but the numbers involved are rare for a first-time author.

Every few years, a certain segment of America remembers racism. The news jerks them out of a fabricated post-racial stupor and inspires a bundle of emotions: guilt, anxiety, fury. What they do with these feelings often becomes more the subject of headlines and analysis than the precipitating event.
It’s a curious cycle, one that Tommy Walker (Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, God Grew Tired of Us) and Ross Hockrow try to make sense of in their elementary documentary Kaepernick & America. Their earnest efforts might turn off viewers already attuned to the cycles of America’s racial amnesia, but the doc works as a primer for the uninitiated.
At this point, most people are familiar with the vague outlines of Colin Kaepernick’s story, but when the NFL quarterback began protesting police brutality in the summer of 2016, few noticed. It wasn’t...
