A lot has transpired in the world of competitive eating this week, so let’s play ketchup.
Earlier this week, Joey Chestnut – who has won Nathan’s contest 16 times, including last year’s and 2021’s record-setting 76-dog day – unveiled that he had been disinvited from the Coney Island contest. This was due to Chesnut having a sponsorship with Impossible Foods, which Major League Eating deemed a “rival brand.” Chesnut took to X to express his frustrations, writing, “I was gutted to learn from the media that after 19 years...

Paige Spiranac proved she'll dip her toes into a sport that technically isn't her domain today. Making headlines for her July 12 X share, the 31-year-old former pro golfer got competitive as she gobbled hot dogs against the clock, also turning heads for doing the whole thing in a plunging top. Offering to fill in for competitive eater Joey Chestnut, now banned from the July 4th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Paige stepped up to the plate, and quite literally. Sharing footage of herself braving a massive pile of hot dogs, the former pro golfer worked her way through them like a champ, even feeding her dog with a hot dog at the end. Fans seemed impressed, with one noting how much "effort" she'd put in.

On the heels of its upcoming live bout between over-the-hill boxing great Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul, Netflix has taken another turn toward becoming The Ocho of live sporting contests.
Netflix will stream a winner-take-all hot-dog-eating contest on Labor Day between reigning Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champ Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, the venerable hot dog chomper Chestnut unseated. The event is being called Chestnut Vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, and while they’ve settled on September 2, they’ll announced venue and time later on.
Chestnut’s the world record-holder for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and he has won the July 4 Coney Island event eight years in a row. If he’s Muhammad Ali of hot dog gorging, his Joe Frazier would be Kobayashi, who put the “sport” on the map in 2001 when he doubled the amount consumed by the past winner, his first of six Hot Dog Eating titles.

The reigning champion of the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut, will not participate in this year’s Fourth of July event.
Major League Eating (Mle), the organization overseeing the annual competition, announced the decision on Tuesday and cited Chestnut’s decision to “represent another hot dog brand.”
Chestnut, affectionately known as “Jaws,” has been the dominant force in Nathan’s contest and has won the title a remarkable 16 times. His absence from the event, held at Coney Island in New York City, has disappointed both organizers and fans.
According to an Mle spokesperson, Chestnut agreed to a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, a company that produces plant-based hot dogs, which is seen as a direct competitor to Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. This move has prompted Mle to bar Chestnut from participating in the iconic event.

Chaos has consumed the world of competitive eating after 16-time Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest winner Joey Chestnut was banned from this year’s competition over his new sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, a rival purveyor of plant-based franks.
Major League Eating confirmed the ban in a statement shared on social media. The statement said the organization was “devastated” (devastated!) to learn that Chestnut had “chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Sixteen-time champion Joey Chestnut has been banned from Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in a beef over sponsorship. It seems the folks at Major League Eating, which oversees the contest, didn’t think his reported deal with Impossible Foods was kosher.
“We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest,” Mle said in a statement.
Chestnut has won the coveted Mustard Belt — handed out to the person who eats the most hot dogs each July 4 — for eight years running and in 16 of the past 17 years. The only break in his reign came in 2015, when Matt Stonie took the title.
Not having Chestnut at this year’s event would be a big blow. He ate 62 hot dogs and buns at last year’s event.

There are a handful of July 4 traditions that are universal: Barbecues, fireworks, and of course the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Hotdog Eating Competitor Joey ‘Jaws’ Chestnut Wins Fourth of July Contest Despite Rain For 16th Time
Joey Chestnut, the eating superstar known as “Jaws,” didn’t let rain stop him from winning Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest. He earned first place after eating 62 hotdogs in just 10 minutes. This is his 16th title win.
The men’s contest had a total of 17 competitors, who came from all over the world to compete. The runner-up was Geoffrey Esper who ate 49 hot dogs in the 10 minutes.
The competition was delayed for two hours, as the sudden rain came over Coney Island.
After winning the competition, Chestnut spoke about the event. “What a roller coaster, emotionally,” he said after not giving up on the competition despite the weather.
He recalls that the rain disrupted everyone’s mindset and that, “Everybody got messed up.”

The memeable world of Netflix‘s I Think You Should Leave got more juice thanks to competitive eater Joey Chestnut. Screenshots of Chestnut chowing down on hot dogs lean into a sketch creator and comedian Tim Robinson would have written.
The hot dog theme reigns supreme on Itysl. From Robinson dressed as a hot dog who crashed the hot dog mobile into a store to Robinson choking on a hot dog he was slyly eating inside his shirt sleeve, there is no “unseeing” Chestnut’s July 4th foodfest as a Itysl sketch.

With every Fourth of July comes a few guarantees: Fireworks, cookouts, and the assurance that Joey Chestnut will hork down enough hot dogs in a 10-minute span to feed a small village. In what is practically a given at this point, Chestnut remained the Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest champion, consuming 62 wieners and buns for his 16th win — not enough to beat his 2021 record of 76 but more than enough to best second place by 14.

Joey Chestnut has powered through to win his 15th title in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest — while also overcoming a protester who rushed the stage during the annual event.
The competition eater powered through 63 hot dogs in 10 minutes to clinch the Mustard Belt in New York City’s Coney Island on Monday, July 4.
This was Chestnut’s 16th competition, and his seventh consecutive win. But he fell short of his all-time record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, which he set last year.

ESPN’s annual tradition of broadcasting Joey Chestnut stuffing his face for his country suffered a tragic mishap this year, as the sports network’s broadcast of the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest suddenly lost its video feed right as the reigning champion set a new world record.
Videos of the broadcast shared on Twitter showed the competition’s video feed cutting out right as Chestnut finished his record 76th hot dog, beating his previous high for the most consumed in 10 minutes. Chestnut has now won the Nathan’s title in 14 of the last 15 years, losing only once to Matt Stonie in an upset in 2015.
But instead of the usual tongue-in-cheek praises of Chestnut’s heroic digestive system, Twitter was filled with outrage that the historic moment had been ruined by technical difficulties…along with a few “Infinity War” references.
ESPN: Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good…...

July 4 means baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet. For competitive eating champion Joey Chestnut, it particularly means hot dogs.
The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest today saw Chestnut set a new world record, breaking his 2020 record of 75 hot dogs and buns eaten by woofing down 76 in the timed event. He ate 12 in the first minute, and sat at 70 with 40 seconds to go, but heaved down his final six to set the record.
Chestnut did this in front of a crowd at Maimonides Park on Coney Island, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. The event was televised by ESPN.
A heavy favorite heading into the event, The San Jose, Calif. resident easily beat second-place finisher Geoffrey Esper, who managed only 50 dogs. Third place finisher Nick Wehry managed to gobble 44 dogs.
Chestnut wins his 14th Mustard Belt for his efforts.

Joey Chestnut is once again the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest champion. This year, he was gunning for his 14th Mustard Belt and hoping to break his own record of 75 hot dogs in 10 minutes. He did both.
It was a close count, though. At the end of the competition, Chestnut came in at a total of 76 weiners. The competitive eater credited his fans for helping him to break the record, noting that he started to slow down in the sixth minute of the contest but that their cheers pushed him forward.
Though Chestnut was the odds-on favorite going into the contest, he remained humble and focused. “Many huge favorites have failed to deliver… I need to stay focused, hungry, and happy,” he tweeted just before the competition.
ESPN had the exclusive broadcast rights for the competition this year but, unfortunately, the broadcast experienced technical difficulties during the event.

Nathan’s Famous 4th Of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest viewers were not pleased with ESPN on Sunday when coverage of the annual event cut out with less than a minute to go.
It was fairly clear when the live stream stopped that reigning Nathan’s champ Joey Chestnut was going to have a 14th victory, but he did set a new record with 76 franks in 10 minutes that fans wanted to witness. However, the ESPN feed kept freezing and then cut out out completely. Once the feed was back, the event was over.

Fireworks may be a 4th of July tradition, but so is watching a bunch of people stuffing their faces with hot dogs in an effort to win the coveted Mustard Belt in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. And this year, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut is attempting to break his own record — so here’s how you can see it.
Chestnut, 37, has won the Nathan’s contest a record 13 times in the last 14 years. In 2020, though, there were no crowds cheering him on in person due to Covid restrictions, Chestnut smashed a record 75 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Going into the competition this year, he’s the odds-on favorite by a long shot, going into the event at -3000.
And yes, he’s fully aware of the pressure he’s facing. “Many huge favorites have failed to deliver… I need to stay focused, hungry, and happy,” Chestnut tweeted prior to the competition.

The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on ESPN didn’t hit an all-time low in TV ratings this year, but the annual July 4 special was unable to crack one million total viewers.
Saturday’s socially distanced version of the Coney Island staple averaged 966,000 viewers, which is the lowest draw for an initial airing of the contest since 2005. Back then, the niche “sport” received 860,000 viewers.
At the time, the new-to-tv contest was in its cultural infancy, and was dominated by Japanese eater Takeru Kobayashi. It is now much more mainstream.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was held indoors with plexiglass partitions between the “athletes” and their gross work stations. Travel restrictions narrowed the field of competitors to only five men and five women. Americans Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo won — again.

And the former Daily Show host vowed that he and his fellow advocates won’t let up the pressure until Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell keeps his promise to vote on the legislation before the Congress’ August 2 recess.
McConnell, who last month on Fox & Friends questioned why Stewart was all “bent out of shape” over the issue, released a statement today after the House passed the bill on a 402-12 vote: “The first responders who rushed into danger on September 11th, 2001 are the very definition of American heroes and patriots. It’s official: The Kanye-Trump Summit is on for Thursday. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed reports that the rap star mogul would lunch with the President on Thursday to discuss, among other things, the “manufacturing resurgence in America.”
Also on the agenda, Sanders said today: “prison reform, how to prevent gang violence, and what can be done to reduce violence in Chicago.”
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner also will meet with West on Thursday, Sanders said. She did not confirm reports West will meet first with Kushner, then with Trump.
West and Trump famously posed for photos together at Trump Tower in 2016 (see one of the pictures above).
The White House invitation comes after West’s pro-Trump rant that closed out the September 29 season premiere of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The musician, who sported a Maga hat during the episode, was praised by Trump at a rally this week,...

She's a loyal fiancée, y'all! Following Pete Davidson's epic roast of Kanye West on SNL, Ariana Grande took to Instagram to throw some subtle shade at the "Ghost Town" rapper. From what appears to be backstage, Ari snapped a photo of Pete on-screen — but that's not all! She also threw in an "I love you like Kanye loves Kanye" Gif sticker. (Photo Credit: Instagram) Icymi, during the Season 44 premiere of Saturday Night Live, Kanye went on a pro-Trump rant following his performance. Needless to say, the entire cast of the show (and pretty much everyone watching) was super uncomfortable. So much so, that during the most recent episode on Oct. 6, Pete decided to address the situation by showing Yeezy the true meaning of going Ham. Kanye West made surprising headlines after his stint as musical guest on “SNL” last week concluded with him taking over the end of the show to talk about how great Donald Trump is and then give an bonus performance while wearing a Maga hat. It was almost impossible that this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” would pass without mention of Kanye West’s onstage rant after last week’s broadcast ended, and Pete Davidson took on the task at the end of the “Weekend Update” comic news segment.
In it, he encouraged West to take his meds — Davidson admitted that he’s on medication as well — and capped off the segment by donning a “Make Kanye 2006 Again” hat.

The highlight of tonight’s Saturday Night Live Weekend Update came when cast member Pete Davidson evaluated last week’s musical guest Kanye West and his impromptu off-air speech given in support of President Donald Trump. Davidson said that many felt Weekend Update host Michael Che should have commented on Kanye, but that “even though Che is black and I’m crazy, we both know which side of Kanye is at the wheel right now.”
Davidson said “what Kanye said after we went off the air last week was one of the worst, most awkward things I’ve ever seen here. And I’ve seen Chevy Chase speak to an intern.” Davidson recently took on Chase for saying the current SNL isn’t funny anymore.
