Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley will participate in a live CNN presidential town hall next month in Iowa, the network said Wednesday. The announcement comes just weeks after the network held a town hall with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, moderated by Kaitlan Collins, in New Hampshire.
CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper will moderate the Haley event, which will air at 8 p.m. Et on June 4.
The former South Carolina governor is one of many Republicans in a growing field of candidates who are vying for the party’s presidential nomination and who are heavily focused on Iowa – a state early in the primary election calendar that can make or break a campaign’s momentum.

We see a lot of arguments on this site about queerbaiting in television shows (most frequently with shows with out creators). But is it a problem? Twenty years ago, we were thrilled by subtext. Now we expect more – and we should. But how do you solve a problem as old as television itself?
As expected, Monsters University dominated the box office. But The Heat took in $40 million, while the big budget White House Down disappointed with only $26 million. Does this mean that we need to stop blowing everything up and maybe try and laugh every once in a while?

Democratic congressional candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch is running a spirited race to replace Sen. Tim Scott (R-sc) who vacated his seat in South Carolina’s 1st congressional district when he was appointed to replace the retiring former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-sc). She faces an uphill battle in the heavily Republican district, but Colbert Busch has a not-so-secret weapon on her side: her brother, Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert. On Thursday, a panel on CNN battled over whether Colbert Busch’s association with her brother, and his active campaigning on her part, helps or hurts her campaign in the conservative Palmetto State.

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-s.C.) endorsed Elizabeth Colbert Busch Saturday in the race for Sen. Tim Scott's former House seat.
"We know what it's going to take to win that seat," Clyburn said at a union meeting in Hanahan, according to a video taken by Patch. "I'm going to be endorsing Elizabeth Colbert Busch today because I think it's important for us to get a nominee out on the Democratic primary that will have a chance at winning."
Clyburn emphasized Colbert Busch's work with unions in his endorsement. Patch reports:
The Democratic congressman said Colbert Busch in Congress would be the key vote needed to protect workers' rights. Clyburn's District 6 butts against much of District 1, which has been held by Republican for more than 30 years. Colbert Busch is running against Ben Frasier in the Democratic primary for the seat vacated by Sen. Tim Scott following his appointment to the U.

Charleston, S.C. — Elizabeth Colbert Busch remembers watching the funeral of Robert Kennedy on television, with her younger brother Stephen – now the star of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" – sitting in her lap. She said to herself, "Someday, if they let women run for office, I'm going to."
Now, she's making that dream a reality with a run for Congress. And she isn't worried her brother's fame will overshadow her campaign.
"I'm not. I'm so proud of what he is and what he has accomplished," she said in an interview in her campaign office on a busy Charleston street. "But when people see what I have done and they know the work we have done and they know me as a person and a professional, it will be fine."

Something in the Colbert DNA must encourage members of that family to seek public office. Stephen ran for president twice, and fanned the flames of an upswell of support for the governor to appoint him to replace exiting senator Jim DeMint. But now, another Colbert is actually seeking a seat in congress, without Comedy Central supporting her.
Stephen's sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch (or Lulu as Stephen calls her), is running as a Democrat in her home state of South Carolina. As if running from that political party were not enough reason for Stephen to withhold his celebrity endorsement power, he insists that as a hardened newsman he would never stoop to such favoritism.
"As a broadcast journalist, I am obligated to maintain pure objectivity," Colbert said on his show Wednesday night. "It doesn’t matter that my sister is intelligent, hardworking, compassionate and dedicated to the people of South Carolina."

Could it finally be Stephen Colbert's time to ascend to public office? The host of Comedy Central's Colbert Report has spent the last week asking his audience to tell South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley that they'd like to see him appointed as the replacement for the resigning Us Senator, Jim DeMint. Senator Stephen Colbert (R-sc) will not become a reality, thanks to South Carolina's buzzkill of a governor Nikki Haley, who denied Colbert's dream in a Facebook post Friday afternoon.
As soon as Jim DeMint announced he will vacating his Senate seat before the end of the year, speculation began that Colbert, a South Carolina native, would campaign to have Haley appoint him to fill the seat. Known for his stunt political campaigns (which, in the 2012 election, involved very real Super Pac money), Colbert was immediately and widely expected to flamboyantly court Haley's appointment.
On Thursday's "Colbert Report," he acknowledged the support and told his fans to tweet at Haley using the hashtag #SenatorColbert.
Alas, it was not meant to be. On Friday afternoon, Haley posted the following to her Facebook page:

Stephen Colbert for Senate ... it has a nice ring to it. At least someone seems to think so, as a Colbert for Senate account popped up on twitter immediately following the news of Sen. Jim DeMint's impending departure from the South Carolina State Senate.
Colbert says he is just waiting for a call from Gov. Nikki Haley, who is responsible for appointing DeMint's successor. The comedian and allegedly wannabe politician -- because, who can tell when he's kidding or not? -- sent a statement to Mother Jones through his publicist.
"Stephen is honored by the groundswell of support from the Palmetto State and looks forward to Governor Haley's call," says the rep.
Colbert took to his show, "The Colbert Report," to urge viewers to tweet Haley in support of his Senate campaign -- which may or may not really exist.

Get ready, America: Stephen Colbert could be South Carolina's new senator! The Comedy Central funnyman joked about his potential new gig on Thursday's Colbert Report. (Because Sen. Colbert, a South Carolina native, pointed out that the governor is "a friend of the show." Thursday's surprise announcement that Sen. Jim DeMint (R-s.C.) would be taking his leave of that body and moving to a slightly different part of Washington, to run the Heritage Foundation opened up an unexpected power vacuum in the Senate. And, as the state of South Carolina was involved, it didn't take long before everyone realized that one of the first things to fill that vacuum would be the comic stylings of noted Palmetto State pretend-pundit, Stephen Colbert. (The way it worked was that first, everyone on Twitter made the requisite Alvin Greene jokes, before moving on to talking about the Comedy Central host's certain riff on the matter.)

Republican Jim DeMint of South Carolina is exiting the Senate before his term is over, which is a win/win all around. He'll leave to head up the Heritage Foundation and Stephen Colbert can take his Senate seat.
Yes, you read that correctly. Under the guise of his blustery "Colbert Report" character, Stephen Colbert has launched stunt presidential bids twice, in 2008 and 2012, attempting to get on the ballot only in his native state of South Carolina. So why wouldn't he try to nab a U.S. Senate seat from the state?
After trying to run for president in 2012, he set up his own Super Pac in order to raise money for his preferred campaign causes (such as rallies for Herman Cain after he dropped out of the race). In a recent interview with Playboy, Colbert explained that he started the Super Pac as a sort of public education masked as comedy.

With the field of candidates cut down by half from just one month ago, the Republican presidential nomination could very well hinge on the results tomorrow in the South Carolina primary.

But on Thursday, Romney's razor-thin eight-vote victory over former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was essentially vacated when the final tally put Santorum up by 34 votes. The reversal didn't have any real impact on Romney's status — delegates from Iowa won't be decided until a later date — but it robbed him of bragging rights.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-la) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-sc) apparently think so based on the cable- and satellite-friendly bill they submitted today called the Next Generation Television Marketplace Act. It would end retransmission consent — the rules that require pay TV providers to negotiate deals with local broadcasters to carry their programming. It doesn’t stop there: The proposal also would end restrictions that enable syndicators to sell shows exclusively into different markets. And it would scrap rules that bar cable companies from importing network programming from out-of-market stations when they can’t strike deals with local broadcasters. DeMint used the trendy magic words — “job creation” — to support the bill. To promote innovation, he says, “we need to stop issuing new regulations and instead remove and modernize rules written to address the last century’s business and regulatory models.” DirecTV agrees, saying that the proposal would “eliminate byzantine regulations that shackle innovation,...
