The 49th season finale of “Saturday Night Live” opened with James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump speaking at the barricades of a Manhattan courthouse, in a nod to Trump’s ongoing legal woes amid his presidential campaign.
During the sketch, Johnson as Trump spoke about his “weird and depressing” state at the courthouse, saying, “I don’t like being in court because they say very mean things about me as I’m trying to sleep.” (It was reported that Trump fell asleep in court during proceedings.) He goes on to say, “Now that my defense is supposed to begin on Monday, I would love to testify; I’m not afraid to testify at all, I’m just not going to out of fear.”
He continues to say how he doesn’t want to go back to the White House, “But it appears people want to send me there.” Johnson’s...

The season 49 finale of Saturday Night Live opened with Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) making an assessment of his potential running mates, who ranged from the boot-licking to the face-eating.
Among those who showed face were South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (Devon Walker) and embattled South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (Heidi Gardner), who arrived holding a stuffed dog at gunpoint. Most notable, however, was Hannibal Lecter, played by a wide-eyed Michael Longfellow who was rolled into frame on a dolly while masked and straitjacketed like in the Oscar-winning film. During the Saturday Night Live monologue, Jake Gyllenhaal seemed to be trying to convince himself that he was Ok with hosting the season 49 finale, rather than the season 50 premiere.
“When you think of historic television seasons, the first number that pops into your head is 49,” Gyllenhaal said. “I mean, sure, you know, one more episode and I would have been hosting the premiere of the 50th season, but who cares?”
The Road House actor later broke out in song to the tune of Boyz II Men’s “End Of The Road,” listing off all the people the sketch comedy series asked to host the season finale before Gyllenhaal.
“You know, I was actually SNL‘s first choice to host the finale after a lot of people said no,” he joked. “I guess they’re all holding out for the 50th but not me.”

James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump returned to “Saturday Night Live” for one more appearance this season, with the cold open spoofing one of Trump’s many rants outside his criminal fraud trial. And, during this particular press conference, he ran through his shortlist for VP — from Kristi Noem to Hannibal Lecter.
To kick off his speech, the fake Trump noted that he was coming to viewers live from “my cage at the zoo,” speaking behind the barricades outside the courthouse. Naturally, he acknowledged the gag order put on him, though he complained that it “sounds like a challenge on RuPaul” more than anything else.
After following suit of the real Trump and complaining about how unfair the trial is to him, the fake Trump brought out his “short bus,” er, short list of VP candidates, though he caveated that the actual choice would be “determined by the winner of the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight.

“I’m not afraid to testify at all, I’m just not going to out of fear,” said James Austin Johnson ‘s Donald Trump from the hall of a Manhattan courthouse in the cold open tonight of the final show of SNL’s 49th season.
Set to pick up with the defense’s case on May 20, Trump’s hush money trial is never short of providing laughs as much as it is tears. However, while the courthouse was the backdrop, the focus of the beginning of tonight’s show was a potential Vice President. Sen, Tim Scott, played by Devon Walker, and dog-killing South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, portrayed by Heidi Gardner, both got a cameo, but there was only one true contender – at least according to Trump.

For all the time Republicans spend complaining about the economic struggles faced by everyday Americans, they remain steadfast in their commitment to ensuring major corporations can continue squeezing their customers.
Late Wednesday afternoon, the GOP-controlled House Financial Services Committee voted to advance a bill that would repeal a new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (Cfpb) rule that drastically reduces the caps on credit card late fees — from $30-$41 to $8. The legislation would also repeal the Cfpb’s ban on automatic adjustment of late fees due to inflation. In the Democratic-controlled Senate,...

Brian Teta, the executive producer of The View, has signed a new contract for the show that will keep him at the often buzzy daytime talker for the next four years.
The show has been up 3% in total viewers season to date, and has continued to top daytime talk shows and news programs in viewership and households. There are signs of an election-year influence in the uptick: The day after the Iowa caucuses, when ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl guested, the show’s 2.85 million viewers was its most watched telecast in nearly two years.
“Every time there’s a big moment in the news cycle, whether it’s the State of the Union, or a Republican debate or anything like that, I see a spike the next morning, even in pop culture world where it’s something like the Oscars,” Teta said. “People are tuning in to see...

The Republican Party doesn’t seem to have much of a problem with Nazis these days. NBC News recently reported on how they “openly mingled” at last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference. The report was alarming, but not surprising. The event’s keynote speaker and the party’s standard-bearer, Donald Trump, has a history of hobnobbing with white supremacists and antisemites — including Nick Fuentes, the virulently bigoted Holocaust denier the former president invited to dinner at Mar-a-Lago just over a year ago.

At a town hall event held in Greenville, South Carolina, Donald Trump revealed his list of potential running mates and reaffirmed his influence within the Republican Party. In a conversation with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump discussed the speculated candidates on his vice presidential shortlist.
Among the names mentioned were three former GOP candidates: Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida). Trump also confirmed the inclusion of Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-South Dakota) and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii).
Though a Democrat while in Congress, in 2022 Gabbard announced that she had shifted her views toward conservatism and has been a frequent guest on Fox News.

Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at pop culture and the news on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment, where Paramount+ was dinged, and Donald Trump continued to be a target of jokes.
Jost brought up the lawsuit that the stars of 1968’s Romeo and Juliet brought upon Paramount Pictures to prevent the digital release of the film containing explicit images of them while they were teenagers.
“Paramount has agreed to lock it away where no one will ever see it — Paramount+,” Jost quipped.
The duo opened the weekly segment by taking jabs at Trump by acknowledging the Republican presidential candidate won the South Carolina primary, “which means that Trump is now undefeated, everywhere except court.”
Jost then played a clip of Trump showcasing “a more moderate [and] unifying tone” to take on the general election.

The Saturday Night Live cold open tonight marked Donald Trump’s overwhelming victory in the South Carolina primary by skewering Republican senators humiliating devotion to him, even though he’s hurled insults at them, jeopardized their key causes and shown no loyalty back at them.
The skit had Lindsey Graham (James Austin Johnson), Tim Scott (Devon Walker), James Risch (Mikey Day) and Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernández) sharing a table at a hotel restaurant, munching on tater tots and pigs in a blanket.
“You know he once doxxed me, back in 2015,” Graham said. “They gave out my personal cell phone number in a speech to all his supporters. Had thousands of people call me up to yell at me. They threatened my life. Had to get a new phone. Switched to Verizon.”
Then, Graham said, “But you know what? I still think he’s the greatest president since Reagan.”

Updated: Nikki Haley told supporters Saturday that she will continue in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, signaling that she plans to continue at least through Super Tuesday on March 5.
“Today in South Carolina, we’re getting around 40% of the vote. That’s about what we got in New Hampshire, too. I am accountant. I know 40% is not 50%. But I also know 40% is not some tiny group.”
She also said that she did not believe that Trump can beat Joe Biden.
“Nearly every day Trump drives people away, including with his comments just yesterday,” she said.
The latest vote total in the South Carolina primary shows Trump with 61% to Haley’s 39%.
Previously: Just minutes after networks projected him the winner of the South Carolina primary, Donald Trump took the stage at his celebration in Columbia, Sc.

Donald Trump hasn’t stepped on stage once this election season to debate his Republican rivals, but the ex-president today challenged Joe Biden to show up for multiple face-to-face match-ups.
“I’ll do it right now on your show, I’ll challenge him right now,” Trump gleefully told Laura Ingraham tonight after the Fox News host pressed him in a piece of staged political theater to debate his 2020 foe in 2024. “We can do you, you can do anybody you want, Trump told Ingraham in the pre-recorded town hall as she offered to moderate at least one of the hypothetical debates. “I’ll take anybody from CNN, which is doing very poorly in the ratings by the ways as you probably know. I’ll take anybody because I think you have an obligation to debate.”
Knowing perfectly well that the much-cloistered Biden will have to respond, Trump took his version of a statesman approach.

Donald Trump wants to implement a 16-week national abortion ban, The New York Times reported on Friday.
The former president has largely avoided taking on reproductive rights during the Republican primary, although he has at times made a point to take credit for the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. The decision has been blamed for the GOP’s lackluster showing in the 2022 midterm elections, and Rolling Stone reported last year that Trump has privately griped that the party is “getting killed on abortion.”

Elise Stefanik, who many view as a top contender to be Donald Trump’s 2024 pick as vice president, says she would not have certified Joe Biden’s election if she, not Mike Pence, were VP at the time.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) has gotten engaged to his girlfriend.
Scott, 58, proposed to his fiance, Mindy Noce, on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island. The two are set to be married this Saturday.
Noce is an interior decorator whom Scott began dating just last year. Scott is known as one of the only bachelors in the Senate. He had never had a girlfriend previously.
“Going to the beach and getting on one knee, and asking Mindy to marry me was so much more important than anything else, and I wanted to make sure that that sacred day would not be disturbed by anything political,” Scott told Trey Gowdy, host of Sunday Night in America on Fox News.
Scott was a presidential candidate in the 2024 race. He ended his campaign in November and endorsed Donald Trump for president. His own campaign staff was surprised to learn the news from the media.

Nikki Haley said last week that New Hampshire voters would have an opportunity to “correct” the results of the Iowa caucuses when they headed to the polls Tuesday. Whether they did depends on Haley’s definition of a course correction. Trump secured a solid — although not a total landslide — victory in the Granite State, further thinning the former South Carolina governor’s already-long odds of unseating the former president atop the Republican Party.

As Donald Trump was about to step on stage on Sunday for another rally to tout the endorsement of another former rival, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley was about 30 miles south in New Hampshire, at a rally at Exeter High School, where a celebrity figure and daytime fixture was lending her support: Judge Judy.
On stage to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, Haley called Judy Sheindlin, whose daily courtroom show made her one of the most famous women on TV, a “trailblazer” who is “tough” and “speaks hard truths” and “doesn’t mince words.”
“I will tell you for all of those endorsements you talk about, those are the endorsements that matter, the ones where they’re going to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it, and they are going to tell you why, and it’s a combination of brains and heart,” Haley said.

Ah, the early days of a presidential election cycle. For a sketch comedian, there’s no better time.
There are endless potential candidates out there to do impressions of and, since nobody really knows who they are, the impressions don’t even have to be that good. Such was the case when Saturday Night Live rolled out its first debate sketch of the season, and the stage was packed with new (parody) faces.

Republican presidential candidate and former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley posted on X a picture of a bird cage and birdseed. She said the Trump campaign had left it outside of her hotel room door – clearly a reference to Trump’s previous insult.
Haley captioned the photo, “After a day of campaigning, this is the message waiting for me outside my hotel room,” followed by the hashtags #PrettyPatheticTryAgain and #YouJustMadeMyCaseForMe.
Donald Trump had previously called Haley a “birdbrain” after the GOP second debate, in which many pundits had declared her the winner.
The debate was last week at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.
While many across the internet have accused, Haley of fabrication journalists confirmed the Trump campaign was responsible for the stunt.

On Friday, former President Donald Trump mocked House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and her husband in the wake of a brutal attack in the family’s home last October.
Nancy’s husband Paul Pelosi’s skull was fractured in the attack where an assailant had beat him with a hammer.
Trump had previously responded publicly to the attack with trademark far-right conspiracies and called the attack a “sad situation.”
At a state party convention of California Republicans, Trump said, “We’ll stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi, who ruined San Francisco — how’s her husband doing, anybody know? And she’s against building a wall at our border, even though she has a wall around her house — which obviously didn’t do a very good job.”
Republicans cheered Trump as he rattled off attacks on several of California state’s most prominent progressive Democrats.

Ron DeSantis’ odds at dethroning Donald Trump atop the GOP primaries have plummeted in New Hampshire, as some of his rivals’ numbers have moved to challenge him for second place in the key state.
A new CNN/University of New Hampshire poll published Wednesday revealed that the Florida Gov. holds 10 percent of the state’s likely GOP primary voters — a drop of 13 points since the last Unh survey in July, which poised DeSantis as Trump’s chief rival.

A campaigning Donald Trump did not receive the most rapturous greeting when he showed up at the Iowa-Iowa State game in Ames today.
When the former president stepped out onto the concourse to wave and give thumbs up to the crowd, he got a few cheers — and some noticeable boos. According to the Des Moines Register, which noted the booing, “he drew far more eager and excited onlookers,” however. Listen for yourself below.

A bit of Pilates sure brings out the Dark Brandon in Joe Biden.
After hitting the PeloDog studio in Lake Tahoe today, a vacationing Potus took some shots at his indicted predecessor Donald Trump, the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host’s mugshot and his online sit-down with Tucker Carlson earlier this week. With a smile on his face and boos from locals as he walked over to the cameras, President Biden certainly seemed to be in a pugilistic mood Friday.
“I did see it on television,” the incumbent responded to a question from a White House reporter who asked if he’s seen his past and likely future rival’s mugshot after being arrested in Georgia yesterday on election interference. “Handsome guy, wonderful guy,” Biden added with open mockery of Trump, who he has long openly despised.

The Republicans don’t need Donald Trump to get people to pay attention to their causes.
Approximately 12.8 million viewers tuned in Wednesday night to see a telecast of the first Republican primary debate in the race for the 2024 presidential election, according to data from Nielsen, with 11.1 million viewers watching the event on Fox News Channel and another 1.7 million viewing it on sister outlet Fox Business Network. Eight candidates took part.
The attention came even though Trump, the former president who has a commanding lead in Republican polls, decided to take part in a pre-taped and meandering interview with former Fox News opinion host Tucker Carlson that was streamed on X, the social-media venue once known as Twitter.
To be sure, the TV figures represent a decline in attention from the 24 million viewers –still a record — who tuned in to Fox News in 2016 for the first Republican featuring Trump. And the...

Ron DeSantis may be leading the Republicans he shared the debate stage with on Wednesday night, but he had just as much — if not more — at stake than any of them. Once upon a time, the Florida governor had high hopes to dethrone Donald Trump atop the GOP, but his campaign has been floundering amid a series of unforced errors and questions about his ability to connect with voters. The debate was a golden opportunity to generate momentum by, at the very least, asserting himself as the alpha of the...

The first Republican debate of the 2024 presidential election primary cycle is Wednesday, August 23 beginning at 9 p.m. Et, airing live from Milwaukee exclusively on Fox News Channel and streaming on FoxNews.com, Fox Nation and Rumble.
Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate the two-hour debate at Fiserv Forum, the site of the 2024 Republican National Convention in July.
Wednesday is the first of two scheduled GOP primary debates so far, with the second set for September 27 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley, CA. That debate will air live on Fox Business.

It was not until the Republican presidential debate entered its second hour that Fox News anchor Bret Baier addressed “the elephant not in this room” – the indictments of no-show Donald Trump.
“If former President Trump is convicted in a court of law, would you still support him as your party’s choice?”
When six of the eight candidates raised their hands — some with more hesitation than the others — it was undoubtedly one of the standout moments of the initial 2024 event.
No other question like that has ever been asked at a presidential debate because no contender, much less the front runner, has faced such an avalanche of criminal allegations. Surprising as it is that so many still pledged to support him, even though Trump hasn’t even signed a pledge to support them, speaks to the hold that he has on the party.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came to Wednesday’s GOP debate with a story to tell about “a lady in Florida named Penny” who “survived multiple abortion attempts.”

Democrats, DeSantis said, want “to allow abortion all the way up to the moment of birth.”

Jumping the gun on Fox News’ GOP debate tonight, Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson made it clear to Rupert Murdoch that revenge is a dish best served online. Running like an incumbent with no desire to share the spotlight with vice president wannabes, Trump easily dominated the debate by never showing up.
“It’s debate night, but we’re not in Milwaukee,” Carlson proclaimed at the top of the video with a sour-looking Trump by his side.
“We’re doing this interview, but we’ll get bigger ratings using this crazy forum that you’re using than probably the debate,” said the former Potus and leading candidate for the 2024 Republican nomination to the former Fnc Golden Boy during their pre-recorded chat that debuted on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter at 5:55 p.m. Pt, five minutes before the live debate began.

Update: Six of the eight contenders on the stage indicated that they would still support Donald Trump if he is the GOP nominee even if he is convicted.
But the cameras caught Ron DeSantis as he looked around at his rivals before raising his hand.
Moderator Bret Baier had asked if Trump “is convicted in a court of law, would you still support him as your party’s choice?”
The only two who did not were Asa Hutchinson and Chris Christie. And the latter looked as if he had raised his hand, but told Baier that he was waving a sign of disapproval.
“Here’s the bottom line: Someone has got to stop normalizing this conduct. Whether or not you believe the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States,” Christie said. His remarks drew some cheers and boos.

In light of a new report that twice-impeached, once-indicted former president Donald Trump was caught on tape talking about classified documents he had in his possession, “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin is feeling much more optimistic about the chance of her former boss going to prison.

Joy Reid has accused Republican leaders of using the U.S. debt ceiling as negotiating collateral for budget talks in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that “could plunge our nation off an economic cliff.”
Reid, in the opening segment Thursday night of her MSNBC show “The ReidOut,” compared the means by which House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the GOP group are negotiating the debt ceiling to a husband and wife using their credit-card bill for leverage in a fight over holiday spending.
Reid went so far as to call it a “Republican lie.”

The audience of “The View” wasn’t pleased with New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu’s response to a question from the table about gun control on Thursday morning, but the hosts of the ABC talk show weren’t tolerating any booing. According to the women, it’s important to hear all sides on the issue.
The panel, of course, hasn’t been shy about their disdain for how Republican lawmakers have handled gun control, and their beliefs that at the very least, assault weapons like Ar-15s should be banned entirely.
