The vampire universe you are imagining is certainly different from the universe of this film. What are the rules generally? Vampires are hidden creatures, the ‘undead’, and can’t bear too much sunlight. Well, in V for Vengeance, debutant director Kelly Halihan brings an updated version of the legend of the vampire. Some aspects remain untouched, and I must add that they are kept the same for good reason. The film begins on a very familiar note, and we get to feel what kind of film it’s going to be. But within the frame of reference of the slick action thriller, writers Steven Paul and Peter Moore Smith infuse the characters with likable traits and put them in absurd yet exciting situations. The result is that this story, about three stepsisters, becomes a vampire-ridden revenge tale.

A beautifully restored muscle car sits by the side of the road as V for Vengeance begins. The trunk pops open and Emma pops out, changes into a skimpy outfit and waits. It doesn’t take long before some fat redneck shows up and tries to take advantage of the situation. He gets sucked, but not in the way he wanted.
The next time she tries this she ends up getting picked up by Scarlett, her adoptive, and estranged, sister. The two are vampires who apparently aren’t bothered by the bright sunlight they’re fighting each other under, silver however is a problem for them.
After an extremely long and poorly staged fight, we find out why Scarlett was looking for her,...

In the conference room that launched 1 million entertainment careers, one huge decision was definitely addressed: the star's name. In Elton John's case, Reginald Kenneth Dwight was ditched for a much catchier Elton John, of course. Whoopi Goldberg trumped the actress's given name Caryn Elaine Johnson (no surprise there!). The stars we think we know everything about, like Miley Cyrus - who is no stranger to sharing the intimate cleavage selfie - are actually complete strangers to us, with sometimes very ordinary names. Cyrus was born Destiny Hope but legally changed her name to Miley (in honor of her nickname...

Going into a film with little to no knowledge about it is definitely something I would recommend, being surprised can be such a rare event these days, especially in cinema. Forgetting The Girl surprised me and I knew next to nothing about it aside from the title and one sentence summary. This was a good surprise, but also one that left me reeling as the credits were rolling. This is not a film that reveals all its cards straight away, it is a character study that unwinds and certainly keeps its audience guessing as to what is happening.
Kevin Wolfe (Christopher Denham) is a photographer who takes headshots of models and actresses, he's around women all the time and his experiences aren't generally all that positive. When he was a child he suffered the death of his sister and he struggles to remember what happened that day,...

Playing tonight at the SoHo International Film Festival is the slow-burn thriller Forgetting the Girl, an impressive feature debut for director Nate Taylor and writer Peter Moore Smith.
Christopher Denham (Shutter Island) stars as New York City photographer, Kevin Wolfe, who specializes in headshots. He's haunted by a tragedy from his past and this certainly doesn't help his mental state any when he's rejected by the women he has asked out. Lindsay Beamish, Elizabeth Rice and Anna Camp also star in the film which has been making the festival rounds for the last few months.
"Peter and I both worked in advertising and he saw some of the stuff I was doing and said that I could do a lot with a little," Taylor tells Shock Till You Drop of the film's genesis. "He had a cool script we could make for no money. I saw the script and loved it.
