This week of nervous performances and shy interviews has been sort of fun, but now, following the announcement of the Top 13, comes the real American Idol: months of live performances where assured talents shine while singing some of the most dated song choices ever. Will we get another Leiber and Stoller week? I must know!
Let’s rank this year’s competitors from worst to first, shall we? But before we get to that: Did anyone notice that Emmanuel Zidor did not even flinch or reach out in congratulations when Spencer Lloyd was announced as a potential wild card pick for the Top 13? It was Shady and I #gotmylife from it. Made me wonder if Lloyd, the much-touted “worship leader,” is a bit of a homophobe. Zidor did not look like he wanted to look at that guy. Any other theories out there? Emmanuel, if you’re out there,...

The 12th season of American Idol opened not with Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey or Keith Urban, but with Phillip Phillips singing his triple-platinum hit, "Home." It was a not-so subtle reminder that Idol produces not only results but big, bankable stars, including Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and, of course, Phillip Phillips, the pawn-shop worker who was swept to the heights of international superstardom by the hands of Idol voters. But only time and a seemingly endless stream of cover songs will tell if this season will produce a star of Phillip,...

‘American Idol Live!’ 2012 touched down in Newark, N.J. on Tuesday night, and while the pacing of the show suffered more stops and starts than an octogenarian trying out a stick-shift for the first time, the Season 11 Top 10 nevertheless proved they have plenty of gas in their tanks as the tour enters its final two weeks.
Paired with the right material, a number of the finalists confirmed they can indeed command a stadium-sized crowd: Country gal Skylar Laine dropped charisma-bombs all the way to the cheap seats. Erika Van Pelt put on a display of vocal firepower that left me...

For American Idol (TV) fans, nothing beats a concert packed with live music, psychedelic lights, and their very own Top Ten belting out the season's most popular Idol performances. This time, however, there's no judges, no tireless, never-ending commercials (except for the occasional, strategically placed plugs for Idol sponsored products), and no abbreviated songs. This year's Top Ten made Chicago their second stop in the 2012 American Idols Live! tour following an opening night in Detroit, Mi. Fresh out of rehearsals in Los Angeles, the tour is young, and the fatigue of a rigorous travel schedule and an inevitable bout or two of homesickness has not set in with it's cast. Full of excitement and anticipation, they are steadily making their way across America to meet their fans and spread some Idol love. On this occasion, three of the Idols - Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet and Skylar Laine sat down with...

America has voted, and Phillip Phillips is the new "American Idol!"The 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Georgia bested 16-year-old singing sensation Jessica Sanchez of California to claim the title. A record 132 million votes were cast in the finale.Phillip is the show's eleventh winner and the fifth male contestant in a row to win. His winning single, "Home," will be released this week.Phillip was consistently praised for his originality and never found himself in the bottom group. Jessica was actually the lowest vote getter among the Top 7, but got a reprieve from judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.Had she won, Jessica would have been the first saved contestant to win "American Idol" and also the youngest (Jordin Sparks, "Idol's" last female winner, was 17 when she won Season 6).The two finalists will join Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Colton Dixon, DeAndre Brackensick,...

It's the final countdown. On Tuesday night (May 22), Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez will face off for the season 11 crown, capping a roller-coaster ride filled with soaring highs — Sanchez's "I Will Always Love You," Joshua Ledet's "To Love Somebody," Skylar Laine's "Wind Beneath My Wings," that time Steven Tyler wore Roy Lichtenstein pants — and just as many crushing lows — Heejun Han's impromptu strip show, Colton Dixon's hair, Randy Jackson's collection of pins, etc. — with the majority, of course, falling somewhere in between. If anything, this season has given us more of the same: nothing more, nothing less.

It was a hit and miss week on "American Idol," as the remaining contestants tackled the music of Queen and another song of their choice. Elise and Skylar both nailed the Queen round, but stumbled during the artists' choice, while Jessica and Hollie found their footing with more recent hits after floundering with the '70s rockers' catalog. But who rocked us, and who seemed "under pressure"?
The next contestant to be eliminated was ...
Elise Testone.
It's a testament to Elise's distinctive, bluesy tone that she managed to survive far longer in the competition than I expected she would (even though she deserved to make it the whole way). But like Phillip Phillips and Heejun Han, the "Idol" machine never seemed like a perfect fit for her graveled, soulful authenticity. She's not marketable enough to be an "Idol," but she's certainly talented enough to become a successful artist in her own right.

The American Idol Season 11 Top 6 hit the stage tonight with two numbers — one from the Queen songbook, another filed under “contestant’s choice — and I’d argue it’s the most evenly matched half-dozen vocalists in Idol history.
Yet while that means each week’s performances count more than ever in determining who stays and who goes home — the vocalist I ranked at No. 1 last week just got eliminated, for Pete’s sake! — it’s still fun to look in at who’s got momentum heading into the live show, and who’s already shopping for a lifejacket to wear...

It was '80s night on Wednesday's episode of American Idol. But did it matter that most of the top eight weren't old enough to even to sing a note when their song choices were popular? Not if you're Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez or Skylar Laine. As the competitors face elimination Thursday night, Ledet, Sanchez and Laine should easily be safeguarded. "American Idol" top eight

Last week, we tried to give the "American Idol" top nine some helpful advice with a selection of songs they should sing during Idols week. Of course, they mostly ignored us — except for our girl J.Sanch, who totally did Beyoncé and advanced — but we remain undeterred, which is why we're back this week with even more picks.
This time out, "Idol" is taking us back to the 1980s, which is great news for both Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, but totally makes us wish Heejun Han was still around — we'd pay good money to see him do "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Living With a Hernia." Last week, we tried to give the "American Idol" top nine some helpful advice with a selection of songs they should sing during Idols week. Of course, they mostly ignored us — except for our girl J.Sanch, who totally did Beyoncé and advanced — but we remain undeterred, which is why we're back this week with even more picks.
This time out, "Idol" is taking us back to the 1980s, which is great news for both Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, but totally makes us wish Heejun Han was still around — we'd pay good money to see him do "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Living With a Hernia." But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of great opportunities for the remaining eight.

Heejun Han is funny, and he knows it. But just because American Idol‘s Season 11 ninth-place finisher knows how to deliver a punch line doesn’t mean he takes his singing any less seriously.
Heejun sat down for a freewheeling Idology interview to discuss what informed his musical decisions over the last few months, whether or not he was “disrespecting the process” during Billy Joel week, how he survived his Hollywood Week clash with cowboy Richie Law, and what he meant when he told Ryan Seacrest he was just “doing it for the kids.”

Attention America: We're one step closer to a No Doubt reunion -- just watch "American Idol" on Top 8 week for proof!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal spent Friday, March 30 mentoring the remaining contestants as they prepared their songs for '80s week. No Doubt is signed to Interscope, which is headed by "Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine, so the corporate synergy makes sense. But who cares when the alleged No Doubt reunion is thismuch closer to coming to fruition?
Stefani and Kanal will have a lot to live up to after the Top 9 contestants universally raved about mentor Stevie Nicks.
"Stevie Nicks was the one person who actually changed our perspective towards the mentor," booted contestant Heejun Han tells Zap2it. "A couple of past weeks we had a mentor who wasn't prepared, who pretty much just wanted to have their own [moment in the spotlight], but Stevie Nicks was...

They've been coy about their relationship in public. But the romance certainly seems hot and heavy between Jennifer Lopez and boyfriend Casper Smart, judging by images from her new music video. The pop superstar and American Idol judge, 42, has her way with her dancer beau, 24, in the video for "Dance Again" - he's seen shirtless and blindfolded, with the words "Love is blind" written across the black cloth. The steamy video premieres this Thursday night on Idol. In the meantime, you can see more photos from the video shoot at JenniferLopez.com. The "Dance Again" single is available today on iTunes.

Since his exit from "American Idol", last week, Heejun Han has made the most of his post-show media blitz, openly pining for judge Jennifer Lopez, taking jabs at mentor Jimmy Iovine and, of course, suggesting Diddy may have been in the bag during his appearance on the show. Oh, and he also joked that he's going to start watching "The Voice."
Needless to say, it's been a wild ride — nearly as wild as his time on the show itself — so when Han stopped by the MTV newsroom on Monday (April 2), we asked him about all the comments he's made since getting the boot. And, as you'd probably expect, he wasn't about to apologize.

In case you missed the chance to tweet me about the fashion you loved from Wednesday night's performances, here's the full rundown!
DeAndre Brackensick
He was a bit timid about his outfit this week because he was stepping out of his comfort zone. But I'm so happy he took my advice and wore this look for this week's show. I think it really showed off his star power.
(Left) For his performance of the soulful "Sometimes I Cry," I styled DeAndre in a shirt by Simon Spurr with vest and jacket by Ann Demeulemeester. The look was finished with Kenneth Coleshoes.
(Right) DeAndre wore, for the trio performance, a shirt by Five Crown, jacket by Guess, and Joe's Jeans. His shoes were by Creative Recreation and hat by Contraband.

The American Idol judges gave Heejun Han a standing ovation Wednesday night, but when the public voted him at the bottom of the competition, even Jennifer Lopez couldn't convince the trio to save him. "[Lopez] told me she was trying to save me, but [Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson] didn't listen to her," Han told reporters following Thursday night's results show. He explained during a call Friday morning: "She came up to me, and she had the teary eyes, and she said, 'I was convincing them to save you, but I lost.' ""It's only her vote [that] counts for me," he added. "So I was kind of sad.

The judges sent Heejun Han packing Thursday night on American Idol, but the notorious joker's television career may not be over. "I'm gonna definitely make something out of [this experience] by doing anything that's in front of me: acting, comedy, sitcom, singing, dancing, - just not adult films," Han told reporters following Thursday night's results show. According to the ousted contestant, he's received encouragement to pursue a comedy career from an unlikely source: judge Randy Jackson. He "grabbed me [after the show] and said, 'Dude, you're a great singer, but, dog, you have to be in a sitcom,' " Han said during a conference call Friday morning.

American Idol elimination nights are traditionally emotional, with the outgoing contestant dissolving into tears as Ryan Seacrest cues a video montage of their "journey" on the show. Heejun Han, this season's resident funnyman, bucked that trend. As a matter of fact, the one tearing up over Han's dismissal was his new Bff, finalist Phillip Phillips. "I think he was faking it," Han, 22, told reporters in a teleconference Friday. "We were best friends since day one and I wish him the best of luck. ... He has what it takes and I'm pretty sure he's going to do well. I didn't cry

Jennifer Lopez was visibly teary last night when it was announced that American Idol contestant Heejun Han had been eliminated. Today she opened up to Ryan Seacrest about his departure and why she thinks the judges saw a different side of Han than the rest of America.
"I loved him from the first moment he walked in," Jennifer told Ryan. "First of all, he shocked me the moment he came in. He came in and, you know, just the way he looked I didn't expect that voice to come out of his mouth. And when it came out it was just like something…'Is this as special as I think it is?' and it really was."

He came. He sang. He made us laugh. A lot. Of course, we're talking about American Idol's Heejun Han, one of season 11's most polarizing contestants, who seemed to put just as much focus on making America laugh as he did on winning the competition. Unfortunately, Heejun's Idol journey came to an end last night after receiving the lowest number of votes and not receiving the judges' one save. But Heejun tells us that Jennifer Lopez tried to persuade Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler to use the lifeline on him! Plus, Heejun dishes on his bromance with Phillip Phillips and compares Idol to The Hunger Games. Seriously! Heejun reveals that Lopez tried to get the other judges to use their...

Jennifer Lopez waved hello to the American Idol audience as she took her judging seat for the elimination show in La last night. Contestant Heejun Han was sent home on the episode, which also featured a performance by last year's winner Scotty McCreery and Nicki Minaj. J Lo switched gears back to her own music this morning, sharing her new track "Dance Again" on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. She'll premiere the video for the new song on AI next Thursday. J Lo will likely sing the new jam along with some others this Summer when she performs for the first time in Brazil. She announced plans to headline two dates of Sao Paulo's Pop Music Festival during a recent trip to the country with boyfriend Casper Smart. And it looks like he's planning to join her again, since he tweeted, "Thanks again Brazil for being so welcoming. See you in the Summer!

Plus, Heejun has some harsh words for Randy Jackson & Steven Tyler! Are you bummed that Heejun Han was eliminated from American Idol on March 29? So is Jennifer Lopez! "She told me she was trying to save me, but [Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson] didn't listen to her," Heejun told HollywoodLife.com and other reporters shortly after being booted from the competition. "It was kind of sad, but Jennifer had a really really good perfume. She smelled so wonderful." And even though Heejun is a good sport about being eliminated, he had a few choice words for the two judges who scorned him. "They have their own perspective toward performance, and I didn't satisfy them," he said. "Steven is a guy who's nearly 60 years old, trying to tell me I'm not taking the competition seriously, and Randy is a guy with four kids. Jennifer is a hot woman, who has been saying I'm the best singer in the world,...

I wish I could handle bad news with the levity that Heejun Han displayed last night. Heejun, the 22-year-old Korean American from Flushing, N.Y., was eliminated Thursday night after the judges chose not to save him. About an hour and a half after the show, Heejun strolled into the media room pretending to sob into a white handkerchief. “No questions!” he shouted dramatically.
Thus began a series of interviews during which Heejun deadpanned one witty remark after another. “I’m going to try out for The Voice next year,” he joked to one reporter. When one journalist asked Heejun...

I've had 24 hours to process Wednesday's American Idol, and I can re-confirm that it's a damn good episode: inspired song choices (Elise Testone's "Whole Lotta Love" is the season's highpoint), eye-popping revelations (Stevie Nicks telling Phillip Phillips that -- wait for it -- Mick Fleetwood would've invited him to join Fleetwood Mac's biggest lineup, had he been around in the '70s), and polarizing performances (Colton Dixon's lachrymose Lifehouse cover, anyone?).
But the frontrunners were clear. Did this translate to a justified elimination during Thursday's show? Scroll down to see who -- if anyone -- was catapulted to a faraway field that could inspire Scotty McCreery's next twangy hit.
The bottom three included Teenage Holly Hunter Prom Princess Skylar Laine, tiny, worried-looking Hollie Cavanagh, and the reformed joker Heejun Han. The judges laughed and denied the loser a save, so that means it's time to say goodbye to.

Throughout his American Idol journey, Heejun Han has been cracking jokes -- and while it's gotten him quite far in the competition, an exclusive new interview he gave to us is no laughing matter.

Following Heejun's elimination (which he wasn't surprised by), the singer told our reporter that while he loves everyone who played a part in his season 11 experience, when asked who he will root for, Heejun told us, "I was rooting for Jeremy, Sharon or Erika ... but [that] didn't happen so I'm not gonna root any for now. I'm just gonna watch The Voice."

He also claimed that guest mentor Diddy was "kinda drunk when we were having our mentor session." And while Heejun lavished this week's guest mentor, Stevie Nicks, with endless compliments, he advised all famous future helpers, "You do not wanna be drunk when you're coming to American Idol session...

"American Idol" may have lost contestant Heejun Han last night, but it gained two new performers: Nicki Minaj's breasts! The sexy singer put her ample chest on display as she performed her new song "Starships" on Thursday night -- nearly popping out of her multi-colored halter top.It may only be March, but Minaj's new single has "Summer jam" written all over it ... and the bouncy, dance-filled performance really sold it.After she sang, Ryan Seacrest commented on her outfit, telling her "There were parts of that performance that were a little high risk ... if you know what I'm saying!"Judge Jennifer Lopez also referenced Nicki's curves (and her own!) when Minaj asked if J.Lo could "scoot over" to make room for her as a guest judge."I don't know if there's enough room for both of us!" Somewhere, right now, a Cowboy named Richie is feeling relieved. His Hollywood Week nemesis, Heejun Han, has been vanquished. It was bad enough for Richie when Heejun made the Top 24, and then the Top 13 and he didn't, but he couldn't bear the thought of Heejun winning American Idol. Scotty McCreery got a sweet surprise when returning to "American Idol" Thursday, March 29 night. No joke: Heejun Han got the boot on Thursday night's "American Idol," bringing his odd, occasionally hilarious run to an end.
And while his exit didn't come as a shock to most, it was rather odd that it came on the heels of his best performance, a smooth take on Donny Hathaway's "A Song for You," which earned him praise from the judges and a standing ovation from the studio audience.
But if you think Han is taking all this personally, well, then you probably haven't been paying attention to his antics. Because after his exit, he was all smiles, as MTV News found out firsthand.
