Directed by Chris Grismer
Aired Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
Over the course of the season, the threat of the Travelers has loomed over the Mystic Falls group, first from Silas and Tessa then from Nadia Petrova, before Markos finally emerged from the Other Side. The group’s plans were finally revealed and came to a head in last week’s episode, before the sudden death of Stefan brought it to an abrupt halt. This week’s episode sees the group try to open the gate and bring people from the Other Side back to life, in a highly entertaining season finale that shakes up the series as a whole.

The Vampire Diaries, Season 5, Episode 18: “Resident Evil”
Written by Brian Young and Caroline Dries
Directed by Paul Wesley
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
The deaths of both Silas and Ayana earlier in the season put Elena in the unique position of being the world’s last doppelganger of her kind. As the Travelers indicated, however, Stefan was not the last doppelganger from the Silas line, a situation that had changed by the time Caroline and Enzo returned from Atlanta. This week’s episode explores one of the side effects of the duo’s status, in an entertaining outing that helps establish the extent of the new threat against the Mystic Falls group.
The emergence of the Travelers as a primary threat is a strong aspect of this week’s episode. While the Travelers have been around since the beginning of the season,...

Olga Fonda is set to wed. The Vampire Diaries star got engaged to Liam Waite, her boyfriend of two-and-a-half years, on New Year's Eve, her rep confirms to People. Waite, 42, took Fonda, 31, to the place where they first kissed, and just before the ball dropped, got down on one knee to pop the question with a diamond ring he designed himself. "Then the whole city lit up with fireworks," Fonda tells E!, who was first to report the news. "It was very romantic." The Russian actress currently plays vampire Nadia Petrova on the CW series, while Waite, a former actor,...

Congratulations to Olga Fonda -- she spent her New Year's getting engaged.
"The Vampire Diaries" star got engaged to her boyfriend of two and a half years, Liam Waite, on New Year's Eve, E! News reports. The Russian actress -- who plays Katherine's vampire daughter Nadia Petrova on The CW series -- shared the news on the 2014 People's Choice Awards red carpet on Wednesday (Jan. 8).
Fonda was already rocking her diamond ring on the carpet. According to Fonda, her fiancé designed the ring himself.
As if that wasn't already extremely romantic, Fonda revealed that Waite -- a former actor who's now in the hotel business -- took her to where they had their first kiss to pop the big question right before midnight.
"Then the whole city lit up with fireworks," Fonda says. "It was very romantic."
All together now: Swooooon.
Congratulations to the happy couple!

Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
The unexpected reveal of Damon’s past history with Augustine last week, alongside the exposure of Jesse to the campus at large, added intrigue and a personal investment to the previously low-stakes story. While previous allusions to the Augustine vampire had been ambiguous with regards to whether they were a part of the team or a captive, Damon’s recognition of the number proved that Jesse was not the first vampire the group had experimented on without their consent. This week’s episode focuses on Damon’s time in captivity with Augustine, in an entertaining episode that reveals more about both the secret society and the vampire himself.

The Vampire Diaries, Season 5, Episode 5: “Monster’s Ball”
Written by Sonny Postiglione
Directed by Kellie Cyrus
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
Qetsiyah’s presence and subsequent spell two weeks ago altered the course of the show permanently, as not only did Stefan lose his memory and seemingly become a new person in the process, but Silas also lost his mind control capabilities, reducing his hold over people considerably. While last week’s episode explored the ramifications of the former, this week looks at the effect of the latter going forward, in a fascinating episode that, despite some issues, is the strongest one of the season.
The idea of introducing Nadia Petrova is an interesting one. While Katherine has been ruthless and manipulative through most of her time on The Vampire Diaries, the one time she did show genuine emotion and vulnerability was when she...

After two weeks of fierce tennis and tense rain delays, Novak Djokovic and Samantha Stosur emerged from the 2011 Us Open bearing hard-earned trophies. Whereas all eyes were on Serena Williams rather than Stosur in the women’s field, Djokovic, as the newly minted World No. 1, was under immense pressure to perform well. Here’s how things went down during a very dramatic tournament.
With crisp groundstrokes and flawless movement, the Djoker has always been a joy to watch, but eighteen months ago he was a distant World No. 3 renowned for retiring-mid match due to fatigue or cramping. Improved physical conditioning helped him rise up and contend with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, but it has been his attitude which has helped his steal the No. 1 ranking. His new-found confidence was on display during his semi-final tussle with Federer. Down a match point in the fifth set, Djokovic blasted back a service-return winner,...

Due to heavy rainfall in New York city yesterday, all scheduled matches were cancelled so today the fourth concludes up and the quarter-finals begin. The year’s final Grand Slam, situated in the hectic Flushing Meadows grounds, has seen the “big four” male players – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray – sail through the draw smoothly, while upsets and withdrawals have littered the women’s field.
Djokovic has been impressive playing in his first slam as the World No. 1. This season, the Djoker has proved extra pressure that comes from heightened expectations is no problem, winning his first 43 matches of 2011 and compiling an impressive record of 61 wins and just one loss. Djokovic whizzed through his four matches without losing a set, his only challenge coming from the unorthodox Ukrainian Alexander Doglopolov who stretched him in a 31 point first set tie-break before going down 7-6, 6-4, 6-2.
