The crime drama Bergerac – a massive BBC One hit in the 1980s, starring John Nettles – is being rebooted. Here are the details.
Bergerac is back. Created by Doctor Who writer Robert Banks Stewart, the original series starred John Nettles and ran for nine series between 1981 and 1991. It became one of the biggest hits on the BBC schedules, all set on the island of Jersey.
The new version will give the show a “contemporary twist, as Bergerac is thrown into a knotty, high-stakes police investigation and challenged to his very core. He will be forced to confront his demons, while trying to save his family and career”.
The six-part UKTV Original series will be produced by BlackLight TV, part of Banijay UK, and written by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse, alongside Brian Fillis, Catherine Tregenna and Polly Buckle.
In a departure from the original show, the writers will weave one murder...

UKTV’s network Drama has entered the original production game.
The channel’s first original scripted series will be Outrageous, a six-part show from BBC Studios-owned Firebird Pictures, written by Sarah Williams.
The series will look at the famous British socialite sisters the Mitfords, whose antics in the 1930s made their family one of the most well known in the UK, and what drove them in various directions and to very different end points. Several infamously support fascism and the Nazis, though two became staunch opponents of the ideology. Two became well known authors.
Cast and crew will be announced over the coming months, with production kicking off next summer.
According to UK, Outrageous will “bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time – a story of family betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, personal heartache and even imprisonment.

Time’s Up came to an abrupt end this holiday weekend. The group may still have money in the bank. There are still useful programs in place to help survivors of sexual harassment and assault in the workplace. But with the resignation of virtually the entire Time’s Up board of directors — including showrunner Shonda Rimes, producer Katie McGrath, lawyer Nina Shaw, actress Eva Longoria and political mover-and-shaker Hilary Rosen — the idea that a group of powerful Hollywood women, united in their purpose to protect women from all walks of life from a pervasive culture of sexual predation, has died. As yet another nail in the coffin, on Sunday Shaw dissolved the group’s Global Leadership Board, sending members an email that read: “There is no need for your individual resignations, as the group no longer exists. We will also be removing the Global Leadership group from the Time’s Up Website,...

Just over a week after Tina Tchen resigned as the CEO of Time’s Up, the besieged gender equity group has now seen a vast portion of its board of directors exit — willingly.
“Time’s Up is ready for new leadership, and we want to move forcefully toward its new iteration,” said exiting board members Shonda Rhimes, Eva Longoria, Jurnee Smollett, Christy Haubegger, Hilary Rosen, Michelle Kydd, Katie McGrath and interim board chair and super lawyer Nina Shaw in a statement posted online today.
“We have strong faith in the talent and dedication of our interim CEO Monifa Bandele as a leader,” they added. See full statement from exiting Time’s Up board members below.
The exiting board members are all resigning their positions by their own choice, we hear. However, it can’t go without notice that this latest move comes as Time’s Up is trying to regain traction...

After unceremoniously pulling “Taskmaster” from it schedule after only a single episode, the CW has found a new home for the U.K. acquisition.
Variety has learned that the full 10 episodes (series 8 in the U.K.) of “Taskmaster” which the CW acquired will now be available to stream for free on its CW Seed streaming service.
The move comes less than a week after “Taskmaster” was dumped from the network’s Sunday schedule due terrible debut ratings.
Hosted by comedian Greg Davies and creator Alex Horne (who act as the titular taskmaster and the taskmaster’s assistant respectively), the show debuted to a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49 and only 212,000 viewers. While a 0.1 isn’t necessarily a disastrous number in comparison with CW’s other summer fare, that total viewership figure is one of the lowest CW has managed in what is a cold summer for broadcast TV ratings overall.
Despite its inauspicious U.

Take heart, Taskmaster fans. The British game show that was recently pulled from The CW’s schedule after one airing has moved to CWSeed. The entire 10-episode season is now available to binge on the network’s free ad-supported digital network.
Taskmaster is an International Emmy and triple BAFTA nominated comedy game show, which just won the 2020 BAFTA award for best comedy entertainment program. It stars comedian and actor Greg Davies in the title role of the all-powerful Taskmaster, who issues simple comedic and bizarre tasks to five regular contestants – usually comedians – with Alex Horne (the show creator) acting as the Taskmaster’s assistant. The tasks – usually performed in isolation, but occasionally in teams – are designed to encourage the players to think laterally and creatively.
The show got off to a slow start on The CW. In its premiere episode, Taskmaster averaged a 0.1 adults 18-49 and drew 432,000 and 224,000 viewers, respectively,...

It was a very short run for British comedy game show Taskmaster. Just days after its premiere, The CW has pulled the show from its schedule after one airing.
Supernatural reruns will take over Taskmaster‘s 9 pm Sunday timeslot for the next few weeks. Other options for Taskmaster, including a run on CW Seed, are being explored, sources said.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek acknowledged that his company botched a new content policy designed to root out hate speech or punish artists for misconduct, which produced backlash from artists and even some employees.
The policy, developed in the wake of the #MeToo movement, removed the work of R. Kelly, the R&B singer who has been dogged by accusations of statutory rape, as well as XXXTentacion, a rapper charged with battering a pregnant woman, from playlists.
“We rolled this out wrong and could have done a much better job,” Ek said in comments tonight during the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Ek said Spotify could have done a better job of communicating the details of its policy – particularly in regards to artist misconduct, which he described as too “vague.” He said Spotify wanted to combat hate speech on its platform, but never intended to serve as the “morality police.
