While fans wait to see if Johnny Depp will return to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom says he’d like to know what his beloved character, Will Turner, has been getting up to after all these years. Speaking with Parade about the second and final season of Amazon‘s Carnival Row, Bloom said it would be fun to revisit his blacksmith’s apprentice-turned-pirate character.
“Oh gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play Legolas in The Hobbit, which was ten years later. I was like, ‘This is a lot of fun,'” Bloom said about restringing his bow and perking up his pointy ears to play the fair-haired archer. “Because he’s such a great space to be in, and I think Will [Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean]—I mean, Will’s so great,” Bloom said. “I wouldn’t mind...

Getting drunk and making a fool of yourself is far different from watching other drunk people make fools of themselves. This is true especially in films: when an actor is behaving outrageously, you can’t help but laugh. To mark next Friday’s (December 14th) release of Smashed, a film about a young couple and their penchant for drinking, we have compiled our favourite scenes of on-screen drunkenness.
Old School
Old School is a story of three friends, disillusioned by the reality of their lives, who decide to form their own fraternity to relive their college days. This is the scene where Frank (Will Ferrell) gets absolutely wasted at their frat party and goes streaking. He is so drunkenly disillusioned that he thinks the entire party has followed suit, only to be found running down a major road, stark naked, by his wife and her friends.

Pirates Of The Caribbean:on Stranger Tides Limited 3D Edition Blu-RayWalt Disney Home Entertainment2011/Rated PG-13/Running Time 136 minsList Price: $49.95 -- Available October 18, 2011What's with all the hate for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise all of a sudden? It never ceases to amaze me how some of my fellow journalists can praise material one moment and be over critical the next. I admit to being a bit harsh towards many films or franchises in the past, but that's because I have high standards. (Being addicted to the Turner Classic Movies network can do that to you.) The original Pirates of the Caribbean measured up against those standards when it opened in 2003. I didn't hate the film, but I expected something more. I was looking forward to Hollywood revitalizing the pirate genre with an epic production; something with a little bit of substance, but not as serious or dramatic as say,...

James provides a few reasons why the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, scuttled by critics yet apparently loved by audiences, is so enduringly popular...
Much has been made over the past few months about the fact that the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise is basically like flogging a dead (sea) horse now. At least in the eyes and words of critics, that has certainly been the case. While the first was a surprise hit, both commercially and critically, its three sequels have only managed the former.
The sequels and their script writers, sub plots and sub-standard storylines have came in for heavy criticism from film experts, and a lot of what’s been said is true.
But the box-office figures and response from the general cinemagoer has been remarkable. The first film took over $650m (just under £400m to us Brits), and that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Disney is bringing back Jack Sparrow and a motley crew of yo-ho-ho-ers for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film this weekend, but the absence of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan won't be the only different this time around. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be the first Pirates film released in 3D, and was actually shot with 3D cameras by newbie director Rob Marshall. Anyone who ever wanted to see Jack Sparrow's dreadlocks in a glorious third dimension can finally realize their dreams. But is the extra 3D on the Pirates ship actually necessary? It's time for another installment of To 3D or not to 3D to find out. In this recurring feature we look at movies not for how good they are or how worthwhile they are of your money, but simply at how well the 3D works. Find out if the 3D makes a difference...

After Fast Five surprised us and Thor left us sort wanting a lot more, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the perfect jump back into summer blockbuster form. Disney did everything right this time by centering the film around its star, grounding the special effects and crafting a story that leaves you figuring out just who will arrive on top. Johnny Depp shows his lovable Jack Sparrow once again and in good form, while Penelope Cruz plays, Angelica, his perfect female equal. The kudos also goes to director, Rob Marshall for bringing a lot more depth to this pirating world and making a more grounded action adventure rather than a high seas, special effects extravaganza.
Twilight has its Team Jacob vs. Team Edward. Well, I think this time around Pirates of the Caribbean loyalists may have Team Depp vs. Team Orlando. Disney saw fit to declare a winner in that battle,...

In a recent interview with USA Today promoting her latest film Last Night, Keira Knightley - who played Elizabeth Swan in the first three installments of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise - briefly discusses who it was like to be filming those films, and that she had enough after solidly doing it for two years. From USA Today: Knightley calls shooting the Pirates franchise an "amazing" experience, but "I was 17 when I started and 22 by the time the last one came out. It was a considerable chunk of time." And with the back-to-back shooting schedule for Pirates 2 and 3, "doing it solidly for two years at that time was definitely enough. And I mostly just wanted to do something else." The fourth installment of the Potc franchise, On Stranger Tides, sails into theaters May 20th!

Disney is finally unveiling the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy on Blu-ray, and now you can relive one of the least-likely success stories in modern movie-making.
For years the rule of thumb in Hollywood was that movies centered around pirates were absolute poison, a skull & crossbone flag meant 100 percent pure box office death.
Roman Polanski's "Pirates" (cost $40 million, made less-than $2 mil) and Renny Harlin's "Cutthroat Island" (cost $115 mil, made $10 mil, the biggest flop of all time) helped perpetuate the myth, while "Hook" and "Muppet Treasure Island" didn't help matters much either.
It took a financial genius like producer Jerry Bruckheimer to realize that Walter Matthau, Matthew Modine, and Kermit were not gonna cut it in the sex appeal department, so who did he turn to when concocting his own pirate opus? Tim Burton's secret bride and general indie movie muse Johnny Depp, famous for hiding his good...

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sends Captain Jack Sparrow out into the world without his Elizabeth Swan/Will Turner safety net. That doesn.t mean Johnny Depp is the only returning member of the cast. Geoffrey Rush will be back as Captain Barbosa, and that.s good news since he.s easily the most underrated part of the franchise. Actually why hasn.t Barbosa gotten his own, spinoff movie? That.s a direction this franchise should have gone in. Instead Barbosa will spend time crawling around in greenery with Jack, if these two new photos from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides images are to be believed. Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean seems to have been dead in the water since the third installment of the highly successful franchise was released in 2007. However, good news for Johnny Depp and Captain Sparrow fans as news has emerged that the latest movie, entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is slated for a May 2011 release. Among the changes to the cast, Penelope Cruz, whose turn in Vicky Cristina Barcelona earned her an Academy award is set to join the cast as a “foil and equal” to Depp’s Sparrow, according to Heat Vision. However, this will be a reunion of sorts for Cruz, who starred with Depp in Blow. Another Cruz familiar, director Rob Marshall, who led her to an Oscar nod with Nine is set to take the franchise off previous Pirates director, Gore Verbinski’s hands. No detailed news on the plot, but it supposedly...

[caption id="attachment_4953" align="aligncenter" width="451" caption="Orlando Bloom"]/caption] Orlando Bloom will not return to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ because his character is dead to him. The British actor, who played good guy William Turner in the swashbuckling flick, has no plans to return to the franchise, despite a clamour for his reprisal. He said: “No, I’m definitely not returning. William Turner is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean.” Although the 33-year-old star won’t be joining Johnny Depp in the new movie, Orlando had a blast making the previous films. He added: “I had a great time making those movies. I just really wanted to do different things, but I think it’s going to be great. Whatever Johnny does, I think it’s fantastic.” Orlando is the second star of the franchise to confirm he won’t be in the next instalment of the series. Keira Knightly - who...
