Remember Quibi? The short-lived streaming service-turned-punchline, which vastly overestimated how many people felt compelled to watch bite-sized shows and movies on their phones, seems to have done one thing right before being folded into the Roku Channel: allowing creators to retain ownership of their work after a two-year exclusivity window. Not content to let her 13-part thriller series “The Stranger” disappear along with the platform on which it debuted, “The Killing” creator Veena Sud recut the project into a feature film alongside editor Philip Fowler. Gone are the 8-minute episodes named after the hour in which they take place (beginning with 7 p.m. and ending at 7 a.m.), replaced by a 98-minute Hulu feature that shows no sign of having been overhauled.

Will Hanna and Joe Barbera might be credited for popularizing a form of animation that allowed it to be produced at a tremendously rapid clip. Looking at the producing pair's early works like "The Huckleberry Hound Show" and "The Quick Draw McGraw Show," one can see "limited animation" at work. That is: characters were designed in such a way that only parts of them would need to be animated to complete a scene. Faces were conceived at three-quarters, letting characters look to the side or full front depending only on their eyes. Necks were covered by ascots or ties, allowing heads to be animated while bodies remained static.
Because of this design, Hanna-Barbera could produce multiple animated series on a notoriously fast TV production schedule. Hanna-Barbera exploded in the late 1950s, and dominated Saturday morning through the early 1980s.
The crown jewel in their output was, of course, "The Flintstones,...

Chrissy Teigen recently shared a sweet post dedicated to her family dogs throughout the years. Teigen, who is the author of the cookbook ‘Cravings’, and is married to Grammy-winning artiste John Legend, began the post with a throwback photo of herself and her mom, Vilailuck ‘Pepper’ Teigen, with a childhood dog, and ended it with a mirror selfie she took as a kid, in which a cute pup pokes its head in the corner of the frame.
“My Og babies! (always been a basset lover),” Teigen captioned the post. “Give me all the dogs”, reports People magazine.
Between the throwback pet pics, she also included photos of her current dogs. In several snaps, Teigen poses with her current basset hound, Pearl, whom she and husband John Legend adopted as a puppy in 2021.

Warning: contains major plot spoilers for Top Boy seasons one to four.
Over a decade on from when Top Boy: Summerhouse’s Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully’s (Kane Robinson) story first started in 2011 on Channel 4, Top Boy is back on the Summerhouse Estate for its fifth and final season.
The action-packed show has reached new heights since being rebooted on Netflix with the help of Canadian rapper Drake, and a loyal fanbase that didn’t falter during its six-year break. It’s taken full advantage of the larger budget which has seen the show place storylines in locations including Spain and Morocco. But this hasn’t stopped the central action from staying Dushane and Sully’s fight to sell food (drugs) and make p’s (money) on the East London Summerhouse Estate.
After five seasons of betrayals and murders, it can be hard to keep track of what...

Actor and director Vondie Curtis Hall is attached to direct “Unbreak My Heart: The Toni Braxton Story” for the Lifetime network. Of course, this will tell the life story of singer, songwriter, and TV personality Toni Braxton. No word on where exactly the project stands, Eta, or casting at this time. The film will feature Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, La Reid, Pebbles, and the Braxton sisters. So a lot of famous faces to be cast here. Curtis Hall and Braxton both have past relationships with Lifetime: he directed "Abducted: The Carlina White Story" a couple of years ago for the network, and she starred in a 2013 Lifetime movie titled "Twist of Faith." And...

If you’ll pardon a direct piece of fanmail, I must out myself as a TLC superfan. For those of us who grew up rejecting scrubs in the ’90s, TLC was one of the few hip-hop groups that felt both bad-ass and parent-safe, sincere and self-possessed, cool and zany. As the top-selling female trio of all time, the group and its Billboard legacy speak for themselves, but it still feels like there’s more to be said about the authentic, empowering camaraderie of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. While later groups like Destiny’s Child and the Pussycat Dolls felt like contrived, slicked-up supergroups of lucky auditioners, TLC’s sexy, saucy vibe made for a one-of-a-kind thrill: a goofy radness you trusted. The loving was strong and they had it going on.

Heartbreak. Abortion. Fame. Sickle-cell anemia. Financial struggles. Internal group conflict. While there were a couple of off-key moments, overall, VH1 nailed it with CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, which premiered Monday night. Starring Keke Palmer, Drew Sidora, and Lil’ Mama as the celebrated R&B trio, the biopic portrayed the group’s rise to fame. It was so realistic, at one point, I thought I was watching the actual group members play themselves.
Here are seven of the most memorable moments from the TV movie:

It’s been a crazy, sexy, cool ride for TLC’s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas from the rise, the fall, and the rise again of pop music’s most celebrated female trio. Twenty years later, TLC proves that the group’s triumphs and struggles were all “meant to be,” making a return to the spotlight with their VH1 biopic, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story and soundtrack to the film, their new album 20. Entertainment Weekly sat down with cast members Lil’ Mama — who portrays the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes — Keke Palmer, and Drew Sidora, and the ladies of...

While network television’s most popular shows go on hiatus until the fall, last week ABC premiered its latest drama series, “Mistresses.”
Starring Rochelle Aytes, Jes Macallan, Shannyn Sossamon, and Alyssa Milano, the provocative series, based on the UK television show of the same name, centers around the lives of four women as they weave through the complexities of their relationships in search of self-discovery.
During a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Aytes opened up on her role as April Malloy, a recently widowed parent, in addition to starring as Peri “Pebbles” Reid in the highly-anticipated TLC biopic, “Crazy, Sexy, Cool.”
Congratulations on your new series, “Mistresses.” How would you describe your character, April, in comparison to the other women on the show?
Out of the four girls she’s the naive one of the bunch. She’s always looking for the good in people, but she’s also the strongest in some ways.

As one-third of the iconic girl group, the feisty Lisa Lopes blazed a trail for today's rebellious pop sirens.

In an era when being as bold as you wanna be can be good for business, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, one-rebellious-third of the iconic girl group TLC, might not have seemed like an anomaly among the Rihannas, Katys and Britneys. But back in the early 1990s, you were bound to arch a few eyebrows if your thing was to rock condoms as eye patches and spit verses like, "If I need it in the morning or the middle of the night, I ain't too proud to beg."
Philadelphia-born Lisa was just barely out of her teens in 1991, when she joined a trio under the direction of manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid, an R&B singer herself and then-wife of Laface Records co-founder Antonio "La" Reid.

The summer is now fully here, and with it comes a new batch of summer TV shows –now that networks and cable alike have switched to a varied, year-round schedule that confuses even the professionals in the industry. Among them there are vampires, cops, families trying to fit in and many, many secrets. Of these new summer offerings, almost all of them have already aired –the only exception is Showtime’s The Big C, a show about cancer with Laura Linney that arrives August 16); some have even aired several episodes, so they can barely be called “new”, and some of their plots might have evolved. But I have tried to watch all those series’ pilots to find out what is good, what is bad, what is promising and what might stay or leave soon. Here it is:
(I recently updated this post, but there are still a few shows missing.
