Unsupported assertions and gormless naivety drive this mishmash of pseudoscience and manipulated religious doctrine
Clearly scheduled to give vegetarians and vegans ammunition to shame carnivorous family members around the Easter and Passover dinner table, this passionate but unpersuasive documentary argues that Jesus was probably a vegetarian. Ultimately, the theory gets largely traced back to the apocryphal Gospel of the Ebionites, a text that’s been around since the second century; director Kip Andersen, however, makes a whole song and dance out of “discovering” this notion in a roundabout way, making for an entertainingly barmy quest. By the end, we’re informed that scientists have found the supposedly “happiest human on Earth”: a vegan Buddhist monk named Matthieu Ricard who spends most of his time meditating on compassion and has “high-amplitude gamma activity” in his brain which means it “fires on the highest levels”.

Spun Gold To “Reimagine” BAFTA Coverage
Next year’s BAFTA TV and Film Awards will be “significantly expanded and reimagined” as a new production company, Spun Gold TV, takes the reins. Co-producing alongside BAFTA, Spun Gold has replaced previous producers Done + Dusted and Whizz Kid following a tender process to make the coverage for the next two years. BAFTA said Spun Gold will work with the body to “reimagine and significantly expand the production and format of both events.” Ceremonies will be broadcast as per usual on BBC One and take place live at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Inside Dubai producer Spun Gold has made the likes of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations for ITV and the same network’s Real Full Monty concerts. BBC Entertainment Director Kalpna Patel-Knight praised the company’s “first-class reputation in making high quality, innovative and engaging content.” Elsewhere, UK PR firm Premier...

Directors Frauke Sandig and Eric Black follow scientists delving into the greatest of mysteries, having to confront the ‘Big Questions’. It presents some of the world’s most brilliant researchers approaching consciousness – each from radically different perspectives, including Roland Griffiths, the renowned Johns Hopkins University psychedelics researcher, plant biologist Monica Gagliano, Christof Koch, Chief Scientist of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, and the famed Tibetan Buddhist monks, Matthieu Ricard and Mingyur Rinpoche.
The film opens as a science film but emerges well beyond the explicable, ultimately leading one on a voyage upon the ocean of consciousness, a contemplative, sensual, cinematographic meditation. The networks of consciousness are reflected in ‘grand’ imagery revealing the vast interconnectedness of Nature – from the smallest organisms, to...

Marc Bauder, whose documentary “Who We Were,” a visually stunning cinematic search for solutions to the increasingly dire problems facing Planet Earth, unspools at Copenhagen’s Cph:Dox, is going in a very different direction on his next project — a narrative feature film about a cross-dressing flamenco dancer and Jewish resistance fighter who killed Nazis in occupied Poland.
“Dolores” will tell the true story of Sylvin Rubinstein, whose Russian mother was forced to moved with him and his twin sister Maria to Poland in 1917. Initially poor, he and his sister shot to fame in the 1930s, becoming flamenco superstars as the dancing act Imperio y Dolores and touring Europe and the world, including shows in London, New York and Melbourne.
Back in Poland when the Germans invaded, they were forced into the Warsaw Ghetto, but Sylvin managed to escape. He eventually became a resistance fighter, dressing as Dolores, the elegant persona of his lost sister,...

Mumbai, Nov 12 (Ians) Actresses Esha Gupta and Mallika Sherawat have opened up on the importance of veganism, and the need to spread awareness regarding a plant-based diet rather than kill animals for food.
"I had some tests done in 2013-2014 and found out I was highly lactose intolerant. I would always either throw up or have a bad stomach every time I had milk. So, I gave up milk, curd, and cheese," she recalled.
Esha said she completely turned vegan after watching a docu-drama highlighting the environmental impact of food habits. "It was around 2017 when I decided to go completely vegan when I came to know about the environmental impact, after watching a documentary called 'Cowspiracy'. I come from Uttar Prasdesh and never knew what food tasted like without ghee. But it started with a health conscious practice followed by becoming a hard-core vegan when I gained knowledge...

Treknobabble [1] is a continuing series of columns written by uber-Trekkie Reed Farrington leading up to and following the release of J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. “Don’t let them promote you. Don’t let them transfer you. Don’t let anything take you off the bridge of that ship. Because while you’re there, you can make a difference.” - Kirk to Picard before Picard convinces Kirk to help him, resulting in Kirk’s "death". Hopefully, when you try to make a difference, you won’t end up dying like Kirk. But that’s the risk I suppose that’s worth taking. I guess it’s the same message that’s in the latest movie when Pike dares Kirk to do better than Kirk’s father. And in a famous Kirk soliloquy from an Original Series’ episode, “Return to Tomorrow,” Kirk passionately says, “Risk is our business.” I’ve been...
