Sir Michael Caine has been handed the Freedom of the City of London today in recognition of his career in film.
The actor, who turns 80 next Thursday (March 14), was given the honour on the same day that a new exhibition opened at the Museum of London celebrating his life and work.
The Dark Knight star joins a long list of famous figures dating back to the 13th century (1237), the most recent of which include Stephen Fry, Dame Judi Dench and Paralympian David Weir.
Commenting on his exhibition, Caine said: "I think the Museum is great for London, and I am so proud to be included."
Beverley Cook, the museum curator, said: "Sir Michael Caine is one of London's most loved and recognisable characters.
"He was the first actor to bring an authentic London accent to the big screen, and although Hollywood success made him an international star, he remains inextricably linked to his London roots.

Bradley Wiggins has criticised some of his fellow British Olympic medal winners over their newlyfound celebrity status. The gold medal and Tour de France winner said he has opted against appearing on the TV chat show circuit following the end of the Olympics in the summer. Jessica Ennis, Tom Daley and Mo Farah have appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show, while Paralympians Jody Cundy, Jonnie Peacock, Ellie Simmonds and David Weir have guested on Alan Carr's Chatty Man. Wiggins said: "I've got a good management team who weren't flogging me to death the moment the Olympics were over. "So I didn't go on Jonathan Ross or Chatty Man, because it's not what it's ever been about." The cyclist made the comments while promoting his new Sky documentary A Year In Yellow, which begins screening next week.

London — Farewell, London. Good luck matching that, Rio.
Coldplay, Rihanna and Jay-z rocked the Olympic Stadium on Sunday night to give the biggest-ever Paralympic Games a rousing send-off, wrapping up an unforgettable summer of sports in Britain.
The three-hour party at the packed 80,000-seat arena in east London gave the world a chance to celebrate 11 days of Paralympic competition that have shifted perceptions and shattered stereotypes about the disabled.
"In this country, we will never think of sport the same way and we will never think of disability the same way," said Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London organizing committee. "The Paralympians have lifted the cloud of limitation."
Central to the closing ceremony – called the "Festival of the Flame" – were the 4,200 Paralympians from 164 nations who encircled the field of play from the start, waving flags and taking in the extraordinary atmosphere. By the end of the extravaganza, they created an...

The Facebook founder and CEO preaches openness and "doesn't believe in privacy," but he just took $450 million from one of the villains of the financial crisis to help keep his company from going public--for now.
Here's what we know about Mark Zuckerberg: He works at Facebook (in fact, he runs the place). He studied computer science at Harvard. He speaks some Mandarin, apparently. He's from Dobbs Ferry, NY, has three sisters, identifies as a "cultural" Jew, and once roasted a goat. He is, he says, "trying to make the world a more open place."
All of this is publicly listed on the CEO's Facebook profile. The very point of Facebook, as Zuckerberg's "About me" quote reveals is openness, connectivity, sharing. Zuckerberg reportedly "doesn't believe in privacy."
Here's what we don't know, despite our best efforts, about Zuckerberg's company: We don't know exactly how much revenue Facebook generates. We don't know how many shareholders it has.
