Stars: Nicolas Cage, Rachel Nichols, Max Ryan, Michael McGrady, Peter Stormare, Danny Glover | Written by Jim Agnew, Sean Keller | Directed by Paco Cabezas
It doesn’t bode well for a film when it counts Jim Agnew and Sean Keller as its writers. After all the duo were responsible for penning Giallo, the film that made Dario Argento the laughing stock of Frightfest and sounded the death knell on the career of the once-master of the Italian horror genre. Then again it doesn’t bode well when a film starring Nicolas Cage makes its debut as a direct to DVD title either.
So what’s the spiel? Well:
After a life of crime in his younger years Paul Maguire (Cage), now lives a charmed life. Fully reformed from his old ways, he is now a successful businessman, with a nice house, a lovely wife (Nichols) and a wonderful daughter, who he dotes on.

Crooked property developer Paul Maguire (Nicolas Cage) thinks he's put his dubious past behind him... until his daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples) is apparently kidnapped. There's worse to follow so, rounding up his old buddies Kane (Max Ryan) and Doherty (Michael McGrady), Paul sets off on a Taken-style path of vengeance when he links the crime to a sour deal gone wrong with the Russian mafia years before.

Cage Rage! Nic Cage Is Back In Rage, Coming To Blu-ray & DVD On August 12th From Image Entertainment
I do love Nic Cage, in most of what he has appeared in. My devotion doesn’t rival that of Jesse Bartel, who holds a Phd in Cagerey, but I’ve followed and enjoyed his career. So, I do look forward to seeing a new Nic Cage movie, even if I know it could be potentially bad. After a glance at the trailer, it actually looks pretty good. I’m excited to watch it now. Image Entertainment announced that they would be bringing the film to Blu-ray & DVD on August 12th. Check out the trailer below, and click here to pre-order a copy for yourself.

Paco Cabezas' action thriller Rage is now available on VOD and iTunes; and the theatrical run began last Friday. We have a clip from the film to share with you. In it, Nicolas Cage has brought in some friends from his past. One of them has a question. To which, Nicolas answers with another question. If this were primary school, he would get a wrap on the knuckles for that. But this is Nicolas Cage! His daughter is missing and he don't give a hoot about conversational etiquette. Paul Maguire (Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage, Leaving Las Vegas) is a respectable businessman and loving father living a peaceful life...until his violent past comes back to haunt him. When his teenage daughter is taken from their home, Paul...

Sporadically hilariously awful, but mostly cheap, amateurish and so distasteful it borders on the vile. Poor Nicolas Cage and his foundering career. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
At first I figured that it was only that Nicolas Cage had seen what Taken did for Liam Neeson — gave him a boost as a late-middle-aged badass action hero — and figured he’d get in on that. The premise here, after all, is this: Once-was mobster — that would be Cage’s Paul Maguire; it was the Irish mob — goes on the offensive after his teenaged daughter is kidnapped, apparently by some rival Russian mobsters he once pissed off. What could go wrong for a worn-out actor we’re all tired of seeing who is desperate to jump-start his career?
In fact, Rage is so far down the...

Do you have access to locations in one of our nation’s great Southern states? And connections with a catering company capable of feeding a cast and crew for two maybe three weeks of shooting? And a few thousand dollars (estimated) to pay for it all? If so, then you too can make a Nicolas Cage™ movie starring Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage™! I kid because I care, and anyway, it’s not as if he’s John Cusack. Yet. Paul Maguire (Nicolas Cage) is a respectable, successful developer raising a daughter with his new wife Vanessa (Rachel Nichols), but his seemingly perfect life is thrown into chaos when a night out ends with a visit from the police and the discovery that his daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples) has been abducted. Suspicion immediately falls on men from Paul’s past — a past where he was anything but respectable. With the help of two old friends Paul goes...

We think of Nicolas Cage nowadays as an actor who takes crazy parts in crazy movies, but once upon a time, this guy could act. Occasionally, he still can; this April’s Joe proved that. But gone, it seems, is the range of the man who once did Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, even Con Air. For all the supercut-friendly looniness of some of his recent parts, all too often the prevailing mood one gets from him is of a skin-deep glower — morose, but soulless. Which is a shame when you see a movie like Rage, which could have greatly benefited from the presence of that other, earlier, more engaged Nicolas Cage.At first glance, Rage seems like it might be another cut-rate attempt to reestablish the actor as a middle-aged action star — to Liam Neesonize him, perhaps. Cage plays Paul Maguire, former gangster, now a respectable family man with a legit construction business.

Cage Against the Machine: Cabezas’ English Debut Labors Through Borrowed Themes
Playing like the cheap echo of David Cronenberg’s A History of Violence, director Paco Cabezas flaunts his English language debut on the haunches of the increasingly erratic reputation of Nicolas Cage. Another brick in the growing pile of fecal matter from the unwavering Cage saga, Cabezas retools basic genre themes (you’ll probably be reminded of Taken at some point in the mix) for a film that plays like it could just as well be the third part of a trilogy including Cage’s turns in strikingly similar B fare like Roger Donaldson’s Seeking Justice or Simon West’s Stolen. To his credit, Cabezas’ Rage is no worse than the offerings of these more accomplished directors, but that doesn’t make the experience of it any more worth your while. Painstakingly generic, one only wishes it would...

Despite all his Rage, he’s still just Nicolas Cage. And so, anyone puts down a few bucks to see this movie probably knows what they’re getting themselves into. Unfortunately for even the so-bad-he’s-brilliant actor’s most undemanding fans, however, this latest bargain-bin offering (previously titled Tokarev, after the make of a gun that winds up being integral to the story) is the worst thing that he’s ever been associated with. Not even the promise of more bizarre line readings and hilariously weird facial expressions to add to Cage’s already impressive collection of Wtf moments is enough to make Rage worth your time.
With a movie as completely devoid of merit as Rage, I’m not even sure where to start. As written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller, the film is essentially a series of loosely connected action sequences, every one somehow less compelling than the last.

On the surface, “Rage” looks like a fairly standard action film. A mild-mannered father taps into his darker side after his teenage daughter is abducted, going to radical lengths to get her back. What makes it special is that the father is played by Nicolas Cage. As a fun aside, the daughter is played by Aubrey Peeples, who'll soon be rocking out as the star of “Jem and the Holograms.” This is Nic Cage in full-on, wild-eyed, action-star mode. He plays Paul Maguire, a seemingly innocuous man with a very dark past that he taps into on his quest to.

Judging by his resume in recent years, Nicolas Cage has an axe to grind. Has he suffered an injustice in his personal life? Who knows – but two things are for certain: he’s all about payback, and short, one-word titles. We’ve had Stolen, we’ve had Trespass, we’e had Justice (alright, it was known as Seeking Justice in the Us.) Now we have his latest cinematic effort, Rage, (previously titled Tokarev) and it appears to be treading similar ground as evidenced in the newest trailer released today.
The distinctly Taken-esque plot revolves around Paul Maguire (Cage); a reformed criminal whose daughter is kidnapped by Russian mobsters. The wise choice might be to give Interpol a call, but Maguire’s steely pride gets in the way. As it should – as the ‘napping is payback for his earlier crimes. Rallying a troupe of his former crew, against the advice of a local cop,...

Nicolas Cage? Nicolas Rage, right? Eh? Anyone? Fine… The new trailer for the distinctly Taken-esque Rage has arrived online, featuring The Cage as a man on a desperate mission.Rage, which was once called Tokarev, finds Cage in pulpy thriller mode as Paul Maguire, a former criminal who is trying to put that life behind him and stay on the straight and narrow. But his daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples) is swiped from home and Paul must track down the people responsible. So far, so Bryan Mills, but the twist comes with Paul’s dodgy past, which means that there are any number of suspects who could have snatched his daughter, and that the police, including Danny Glover’s detective, are keeping an eye on our hero to make sure he doesn’t break the law. So how is he to save Caitlin? The likes of Peter Stomare, Rachel Nichols, Max Ryan...

Nicolas Cage doesn't feel like he's getting enough work these days, so he's signed on to star in another thriller called Tokarev. He will play a character named Paul Maguire in the film, a former crook "trying to find the kidnappers of his daughter and avoid falling back into his past."
Seems like your typical Cage movie. This will be the first American film from Spanish filmmaker Paco Cabezas, and he'll direct it from a script written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller. It amazes me to see how much this guy works, and surprisingly he's one actor you never really see leave a project due to scheduling conflicts.

Nicolas Cage is well known for having, we’ll put this charitably, a liberal attitude when it comes to choosing scripts. Now another one has come his way and he’s set to play the lead in something called Tokarev.Neon Flesh director Paco Cabezas, who usually works in Spain, is making his American directing debut with the film. Jim Agnew and Sean Keller wrote the script, which finds Paul Maguire (Cage) as a former cop who is looking for his daughter’s kidnappers and trying to avoid the pitfalls of his past. So it’s Taken meets any number of previous Nic Cage thrillers? Well, we can certainly see why he might agree to star…Hopefully this one will have a better path to the screen than some of his recent efforts, which have been shunted to disc or ripped apart upon release. There’s no word on when Tokarev will get started,...

• Albert Brooks is set to reprise his role as the cranky but loving father Marlin in Finding Nemo 2. Even though Andrew Stanton had already signed on to direct and Ellen DeGeneres had agreed to return, Brooks was reportedly a hold out for the sequel. Still, we’re excited that he’s officially joined the cast. It wouldn’t be the same without his voice. Now Brooks just needs to write and direct another film of his own. [Deadline]
