Even though Gov. The conservative news streaming service is off to the races, showing off an impressive subscriber total for its first 30 days.
It’s hard to underestimate the importance of live news, even as cord-cutting continues to impact the TV-watching audience. One survey from September found that all age groups used their broadcast TV channels to watch news more than any other type of programming.
The conservative news streaming service Newsmax+ launched at the beginning of November. At the end of that month, the service had already accrued 150,000 subscribers. The figure is impressive for a streamer with a niche audience and a narrow selection of content. How is Newsmax+ Doing?
When Newsmax+ first launched earlier this month, it was undoubtedly a gamble for Newsmax. After all, the channel’s content had been streaming on a free ad-supported TV (Fast) channel on platforms like Roku and YouTube, so it was no guarantee that...

Voters have delivered yet another resounding blow to the Republican myth that Americans want less bodily autonomy and individual freedom is what the people actually want. Tuesday’s elections saw the passage of a pro-choice ballot measure in Ohio, the failure of GOP efforts to oust Kentucky’s Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, and an overall lackluster performance by Republicans that shows the party has some work to do before 2024.

Even in the basement of the Iron Horse bar and grill, it’s hot in Chariton, Iowa. The woman next to me fans herself with her “Ron DeSantis for President” flyer. A little boy leaning against the barrier between the crowd and the small stage plugs his ears against the too-loud dad rock blasting from the too-big speakers. All anyone talks about is the heat, which is for the birds, a man says wiping his forehead. For the birds.

CNN host Chris Cuomo made absolutely no mention of the ongoing scandal surrounding his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on his show Tuesday night despite the fact that his brother was found to have sexually harassed multiple women after an investigation by the state attorney general.
But Chris Cuomo was also personally connected to the case; he testified in the New York Attorney General’s investigation on behalf of his brother, and advised him on how to handle the proceedings and deal with negative press.
“During his testimony, Chris Cuomo explained that there was discussion about remedial measures the Chamber should take in light of the sexual harassment allegations, but some people had taken the position that ‘they should just wait.’ When asked about any remedial measures during his testimony, the Governor testified that the Chamber is ‘talking to people about’ them,” the report said.

Executives at Fox News Channel believe one of the core elements behind the durability of the network’s late-afternoon panel program, “The Five,” is the connection between founding panelists Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld. When the pair first met, however, they seemed to find little in common.
Gutfeld, then hosting the wee-hours program “Red Eye,” asked Perino, then a contributor still involved with public relations after her time at the White House, to appear on the show, and approached her outside the Fox Corp. outlet’s Manhattan headquarters. “She pretended there was somebody behind me that she recognized…’Oh, who’s that? Oh, hi, Steve,’” Gutfeld recalls. Perino says she doesn’t fully remember the incident, but “in my defense, I had never been up at 3 a.m. to watch. I didn’t know what I was being asked to do.” Now, she credits Gutfeld with helping her develop a stronger on-air personality.

Rick Santorum responded to CNN’s decision to drop him as a commentator, claiming that he was the victim of the “intolerance of the left.”
He popped up on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show on Monday evening, two days after CNN confirmed that it had parted ways with him amid furor over comments he made about Native Americans.
“What I said was not at all disparaging of Native Americans,” Santorum told Hannity. “What I was talking about was the founding of the United States of America, and that Native Americans did not have a role in the founding of our country.”
At the Young America’s Foundation conference last month, Santorum said, “We birthed a nation. From nothing. There was nothing here. Sean Hannity said an NBC News executive credited him for keeping Joy Reid in 2018 on the air after the MSNBC host faced fallout from her old blog posts.
Hannity’s comments arose Monday night while interviewing Rick Santorum about his recent ouster from CNN. He noted, “I don’t believe in boycotts, Senator. I have never supported one. I never will.”
Hannity pointed first to his defense of Bill Maher in 2014 and then his defense of Reid in 2018.
“When Joy Reid was in trouble, I was called by an NBC executive that said, ‘Your public comments played a big role in us being able to keep her,’ meaning her job. She wrote me a nice note,” he said. “I said people can make mistakes and move on, but not anymore.”

CNN has fired former Republican Senator Rick Santorum over racist and false remarks he made weeks ago about Native Americans. The Huffington Post broke the news Saturday, citing a senior executive at the network. CNN has since confirmed the report.
While speaking at an event organized by Young America’s Foundation last month, the now-former CNN senior political commentator falsely and callously claimed Native American people have had no influence on U.S. culture and said there was “nothing” in America before white colonists arrived.

CNN is parting ways with contributor Rick Santorum, the former Republican Senator and presidential candidate who has come under fire for remarks he made last month about Native American culture.

Congress will count the 2020 Electoral College votes on Wednesday to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s presidential victory in a joint session beginning at 1 p.m. Et/10 a.m. Pt in the House of Representatives.

At the end of nearly every movie with a villain, the villain goes down to defeat. That, of course, is what villains deserve. Yet as an audience, what we want — what we crave — is more than simple defeat, or even destruction. We want to see the villain get his just deserts, a taste of his own medicine, a comeuppance. That means seeing him confront the consequences of the damage he’s caused and why that damage, in a karma-is-a-bitch way, is now coming back to haunt him.
Donald Trump is a man who, in 40 years of public life, has never had a comeuppance. As he himself would say, he’s just gotten bigger and bigger. Sure, he suffered some serious setbacks, like the bankruptcies (which he later denied) that at certain points left him begging for foreign capital when no American bank would touch him. But he has always found a way to bounce back,...

John King emerged as an early and heavy presence on CNN, working his regular shift at the network’s signature “Magic Wall,” but this year, he is armed with caveats. Nearly every other phrase out of King’s mouth this year is one urging viewers to be patient, using phrases like “this is early,” “I just want to caution you,” “if it holds,” and “we will check back later in the night.”
Part of that is a feature of this year’s Election Night preparation at CNN. The network, like many of its rivals, wants to make sure viewers understand where the vote is heading and why, using graphics representing how many votes were cast early, how many are left to come in, and more...

There promises to be no shortage of drama, along with the potential for a 2016-esque GOP surprise or a 2018-like blue wave. But prognosticators gonna prognosticate, while Americans await their new president.

CNN will provide six hours of coverage each night of the Democratic and Republican conventions, which will be nearly all virtual.
The network typically has a major presence at convention sites, setting up its own restaurant, the CNN Grill, to serve as a backdrop for its anchors and correspondents. On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver lobbied for one U.S. state — but preferably not Florida, for snarky reasons — to cement gender equality in the constitution by ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.

Republican former Sen. Rick Santorum is not always popular on CNN's set.
During a 9-person panel on Wednesday night, chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin wasn't buying what Santorum was selling in defense of President Donald Trump, who was torched earlier in the day by congressional witness Michael Cohen. “Is that really the best defense you can come up with?” Toobin asked, drawing laughs.

Former Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy has joined Fox News Channel as a contributor, the latest recently-departed politician to take to the TV-news ranks as the networks seek out fresh faces to keep viewers intrigued by their broadcasts.

A few years ago, the joke among network TV execs was that “flat is the new up” — meaning that you could tout victory if your network had managed to at least hold steady and not lose more viewers.
Those were innocent times. Now, with so many channels slipping year-to-year by double digits, perhaps “single digit declines are the new up” should now be the industry mantra. In 2018, TV strategists who are used to erosion were nonetheless stunned by how quickly younger viewers are disappearing from linear TV. “We’re seeing real accelerated declines in live viewing,” one research exec told IndieWire. “People are changing their behavior. Maybe people are watching more efficiently.” Nielsen doesn’t report on the people watching video on mobile phones, iPads and laptops, but there’s a sense that viewers are using different platforms to time shift their viewing, the way they used to use DVRs.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday night to drag TV news pundits away from the Michael Cohen Gma interview story by announcing Mick Mulvaney, director of the Office of Management & Budget, would become “acting” Chief of Staff, replacing John Kelly:
….I look forward to working with him in this new capacity as we continue to Make America Great Again! John will be staying until the end of the year. He is a Great Patriot and I want to personally thank him for his service!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 14, 2018
Mulvaney was on a long list of men who had signaled to the White House that they were not interested in the job.
Trump, however, stoutly insisted that he had “10-12” chief of staff wannabes pounding down his door, telling Reuters, “Everybody wants it…Who doesn’t want to be one of the top few people in Washington, D.

CNN’s shows regularly feature people who like to defend the administration of President Donald Trump. Keeping their seats filled is becoming a tougher task.
Jason Miller had become a steady presence on CNN, appearing on programs like “Erin Burnett OutFront” to defend White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, among other Trump officials. But Miller, a former Trump campaign aide, left his role as a CNN political analyst this weekend after allegations about his off-camera behavior surfaced, in the process becoming the latest pro-Trumper to exit the network after gaining national recognition for his appearances.
He joins a growing parade of Trump defenders who have found it difficult to stay on CNN. Tough news for Rick Santorum, Joan Walsh, Jack Kingston and the dozens of CNN analysts and contributors who often hold forth during the network’s primetime “panel” discussions: Chris Cuomo wants little to do with you.
When Cuomo launches a new CNN show in primetime next week, he intends to rely largely on one-on-one interviews with newsmakers, and less on the large and often unruly roundtables that have become a staple on the Time Warner-owned network’s air since before the 2016 election. Doing so, he says, was one of the conditions he sought in exchange for taking the new gig.
He got it. “I don’t need to sit there and listen to all of these outsized voices with competing banter,” Cuomo says during a recent interview. “I think there’s enough of it.”
And so, CNN will make a new bid in what is perhaps cable news’ most heated fray.

The comedy duo The Good Liars consists of Davram Stiefler and Jason Selvig, two guys who satirize people and organizations through on-the-ground comedy. They started in 2011 posing as investment bankers “protesting” the Occupy Wall Street protests, but have then moved on to other targets, like Time-Warner Cable, Chick-fil-a, and the NRA. But now, the duo have produced a film in which they, along with Roger Ayeels and Jen Richmond (played by “Daily Show” veterans Aasif Mandvi and Jena Friedman), go on the campaign travel to satirize the 2016 presidential election. Combining real footage of the The Good Liars disrupting campaign events and filmed material for the film, Stiefler and Selvig try to get to the heart of the nation through comedy. With four more candidates dropping out of the presidential race since we last spoke, it was well past time for another segment of The Late Show's "Hungry for Power Games," where a fantastically bewigged and be-eyebrowed Stephen Colbert, as Julius Flickerman, bids farewell to The Fallen. After a brief shout-out to his home state of South Carolina, where all the political action is happening this week, Colbert got into character and even added something new: his co-host, a dead weasel named Caligula. Together, they sent off Rick Santorum (District: Deja Who?), Chris Christie (District: Bridge), Carly Fiorina (District: Paper Jam), and, to Colbert's great dismay, perennial loser Jim Gilmore (District: 12 Votes).

However, in between the many moments where Caligula shined, Colbert was able to poke fun at the departing candidates in some truly wonderful ways.
