Exclusive: Sanaa Lathan, who was recently Emmy nominated for her role on Succession, is to star as the infamous “psychic” Miss Cleo in a new drama series.
Legendary Entertainment is developing the project, Miss Cleo, with Lathan as exec producer. Former Sony Pictures Television head of drama Sharon Hall, who exec produced The Expanse, is also exec producing the project through her Mom de Guerre Productions.
Miss Cleo was otherwise known as Youree Dell Harris, an actress best known for portraying the spokeswoman for a psychic pay-per-call-minute service called Psychic Readers Networks in a series of commercials between 1997 and 2003. Her tagline was “Call me now!”
In 2002, the Federal Trade Commission charged the company’s owners with deceptive advertising, billing and collection practices. Harris was not indicted but the people behind it agreed to settle by erasing $500M in debt from its victims and paying a $5M fine.

An overwhelmingly vast number of psychic claims should be taken with a healthy dose of salt, and Call Me Miss Cleo aims to be sodium-free. HBO Max’s original documentary does, however, throw a little bit of corn syrup into the mix. It promises viewers an in-depth study on a complicated con game, Psychic Readers Network (Prn), a call-in service which took in billions of dollars from the desperately lonely, and pours out a VH1 Behind the Music-style tale of a fallen celebrity who couldn’t see her fate in the stars.
Call Me Miss Cleo is co-directed by Jennifer Brea and Celia Aniskovich, and they come at it with great empathy, which undercuts the accusations against the prime suspect, and makes the prosecuting investigators look like true believers. We can confidently predict a documentary is forthcoming on ‘90s TV psychic Miss Cleo.
Nonfiction entertainment studio Xtr and production company Majority announced they are in production on a film about the famed tarot card reader, who became the centerpiece of a billion-dollar fraud investigation. Award-winning filmmaker Senain Kheshgi is directing the documentary about a woman who became a ubiquitous television presence in ads offering to tell people’s fortunes through a pay-per-call number.
Miss Cleo purported to be a Jamaican soothsayer, but the person under the turban in fact was Los Angeles native Youree Dell Harris, a sometime actress and playwright hired to embody the gifted psychic.
“Claiming to be a shaman from Jamaica, Miss Cleo’s charisma and famous imperatives enabled the Psychic Readers Network, a pay-per-call service, to charge callers seeking answers over $1 billion for advice,” Xtr noted. “But in 2002 it all came crashing down when the...

Almost fifteen years since its launch, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is still generating controversy.
The Psychic Readers Network filed a lawsuit against Vice City developers Rockstar Games on Tuesday over a character which they claim uses late TV psychic Miss Cleo’s likeness and accent.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, the network claims the character Auntie Poulet appears to be a direct rip-off of Miss Cleo, an American TV personality physic who worked under the Prn.
Prn, who owns the rights to Miss Cleo, claims Rockstar continues to make money from the game despite it’s release fifteen years ago, due to re-releases and bundle packages.
Miss Cleo, real name Youree Dell Harris, passed away from cancer in July 2016.
Harris herself was even hired by Rockstar Games to voice the Auntie Poulet character.
A Rockstar Games spokesperson issued a statement to TMZ, saying, “These claims are entirely meritless and completely ridiculous.

Last season, I was quite the Cassandra here in Silicon Valley recap land. I repeatedly predicted a dark end for Richard Hendricks, yet he bested Hooli, won TechCrunch Disrupt, and became a hero to little guys everywhere. I gladly took my lumps from readers for being a whiny soothsayer of doom. Now that you’ve seen “Two Days of the Condor,” the dark second season finale, I just have one thing to say: “Cassandra Henderson was Right!!! Who’s your Miss Cleo now?!!!”Yes, I’m being petty. If this show has taught you anything, it’s that we can be some petty ass people here in Information Technology. In this regard, I plead guilty with a capital T. This plea is appropriate, because Alec Berg’s excellent “Two Days of the Condor” script has a streak of pettiness running through it. Almost everyone gets their shot at this trait in the finale.

Jussie Smollett is howling with laughter. We’re discussing Season 1 of Fox’s ratings juggernaut Empire, and I’ve blurted out an (admittedly) ridiculous question: Is there any way to restore the trust between Smollett’s character, the newly out-and-proud gay R&B singer Jamal Lyon, and his disapproving father Lucious (Terrence Howard)? (Keep in mind, of course, that last week Lucious confessed he’s the biological father of Lola, the little girl Jamal thought he’d conceived with his ex-wife Olivia.)

The news that Wonder Woman would be directed (and developed at a story level) by Michelle MacLaren may have whizzed past a lot of people. Society lost its shit, collectively, when Wonder Woman was given official confirmation by Warner Bros. Ditto when it came out that WB was looking for a woman to direct comics’ most wondrous woman. But if you didn’t know who MacLaren was (or didn’t care to Google her and see the words “Breaking” and “Bad” come up repeatedly), this particular Thanksgiving week announcement might be drowned out by Tie Fighter fire or the lip-smackings of a Mosasaur. But rest assured, this news is just as meaty. Meatier, even. The crappiest Miss Cleo knockoff could have predicted that The Force Awakens and Jurassic World would, in fact, have trailers. And that people would be excited (what, really?) to see them. To guess that WB, after a string of farcically boneheaded creative decisions-...

Miss Cleo talks being gay, black and Jamaican, Chris Colfer consoles Brian about Glee, Jim Parsons feels the love since coming out
The Broadway box office dropped $2.5 million after the tony Awards snubbed several major stars and their shows. Still, there are bright spots, like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which was already selling nearly capacity and is now selling out, jumping $267,957 over the pre-Tony week.
In the marriage equality trial in Idaho, the state mainly trotted out the line about children needing a mother and a father and the purpose of marriage being procreation, but the judge wasn’t having it, saying when straight people apply for a marriage license ““They don’t have to submit anything to prove that they intend to have children.” The state also said that all ten of the marriage equality cases since Windsor have been decided wrongly, saying that rather than deferring to...

In a surprising development for streaming video, Amazon Prime has obtained the rights to HBO shows. Don’t cancel your cable subscription just yet, the deal only covers older HBO shows, plus Girls and Veep episodes that are more than three years old. Still, the news is a pretty big deal. Netflix has long had older episodes of Showtime’s series (and now Hulu has a few shows), but HBO has resisted letting its shows appear anywhere but HBO Go. Game of Thrones and True Detective as well as Sex and the City (which airs in syndication) aren’t included.
Recently, CBS renewed The Big Bang Theory for three seasons, which would take it to season ten. Showrunner Steve Molaro tells The Hollywood Reporter that, for now at least, he’s approaching that tenth season as the final one, which would give the show a Friends-sized run.

Variety reports Helen Mirren is in talks to join the biopic Trumbo. With Bryan Cranston attached to star and Jay Roach to direct, it will tell the story of Dalton Trumbo, one of the all-time great screenwriters, who was blacklisted in 1947 after refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. (He was also sent to prison for 11 months for this.) Mirren would play Trumbo’s wife, Cleo. The part would put Mirren one step closer to finally playing Miss Cleo.

There have been some online rumors floating around that "Big Brother" couple Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas are competing on an "Amazing Race: All Stars" edition -- and now there looks to be some pretty convincing evidence.
Miss Cleo, noted "Big Brother" fan, has captured a photo that Reilly tweeted (and has since removed) of the two in their "Brenchel" shirts while sporting what appear to be "Amazing Race"-style rucksacks.
Further, there's the video below of Brendon performing a bartending task. Roadblock, maybe?
What do you think, "Big Brother" fans? Excited to watch Brenchel on yet another reality show? The full cast should be announced in January. To stay up-to-date on all the details of Brenchel, however, follow Miss Cleo on Twitter.

The "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" castaways have merged and now it's our first post-merge Redemption Island duel. Will the Baskauskas brothers survive?
Redemption Island
The challenge is using a grappling hook to retrieve bags, then getting a ball through a table maze. So, Tina has a shot. It's not like something that is ridiculously favoring a fit young man -- and then look at that, Tina gets her first bag with her first toss.
And then Tina has all three bags in four tosses, incredible. But they all get to the table maze before someone has won, so it really is anybody's game. One wrong move and you're back at the beginning -- like Aras does right at the start.
Tina Almost has it and then it drops through the last hole. I actually shrieked out loud, that was super tense, haha. Then Vytas wins and is still in the game.

Just remember to have fun with it. That's right — have fun, enjoy it. You'll get excited. You might — almost definitely at some point — get upset. But this is hip-hop. This is the music and culture we love.
On September 28, my fellow MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust members and I will start to release our — keyword being "our" — list of the Hottest MCs in the Game. Number 10 will be announced on the 28th, nine on the 29th, etc. through October 2. Then, on October 4 during "P. Diddy's Starmaker," we will reveal numbers five through one. Numero uno, the number-one spot.
You know the drilly by now, right? I mean, this is the third year we've done it. Well, in case you forgot or just didn't know, a group of my MTV News...
