Exclusive: Indian powerhouse producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Karan Johar, who have previously collaborated on movies including lauded drama The Lunchbox and TIFF 2023 title Kill, are moving ahead with their Hindi-language adaptation of French smash Intouchables, by hiring director Collin D’Cunha.
The Indian filmmakers first acquired the remake rights from Gaumont almost a decade ago. The original box office sensation, starring Omar Sy and François Cluzet, saw an aristocrat hire a young man from the projects to be his caregiver after he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident. It has also announced a deadline extension of application by 2 weeks with the new deadline now being July 20.
Guneet is an accomplished film producer and BAFTA nominee. She is also the recipient of the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and has been acknowledged by esteemed institutions such as the Alfred P. Director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga became the first Indian filmmakers to claim competitive Oscars after their short documentary The Elephant Whisperers won the Academy Award tonight.
Gonsalves gave thanks to “my motherland, India,” as she accepted the award.
The Elephant Whisperers revolves around Bomman and Belli, an Indigenous couple and their “large” family – orphaned elephant calves that they help raise in the Theppakadu Elephant camp within the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in South India. Gonsalves spent five years following this human-elephant blended family for her Netflix documentary.
“I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world,” Gonsalves said as she began her acceptance speech, “for the respect of Indigenous communities and empathy towards other living beings we share our space with, and finally, for coexistence.”

Film producer Guneet Monga tied the nuptial knot with a Delhi-based fashion entrepreneur Sunny Kapoor on Monday. The wedding ceremony took place in front of the holy religious scripture of Sikhism – Guru Granth Sahib, at the 4 Bungalows Gurudwara in Mumbai.
While Guneet heads the Mumbai-based production house Sikhya Entertainment, Sunny leads a Delhi-based apparel brand, Meenakshi Creations. Sunny Kapoor and Guneet Monga met on a dating app where the latter’s friends had made her profile which was quite opposite to her real-life persona.
