Los Angeles – Hugh Hefner was the man who turned the key to the sexual revolution when he founded Playboy Magazine in 1953. Hefner – nicknamed Hef – was a straitlaced midwestern boy who turned an obsession with his own sexual frustrations into Playboy Magazine, the first mainstream publication to feature men’s lifestyle articles, high-level literature and the famous “Playboy Interview,” between pictorials and a monthly “centerfold” of nude women (Hefner’s “girl next door” Playmates and Bunnies). He embraced both the success of the magazine and the life it gave him, enjoying (at least as an image) the same swinging style emboldened by the Playboy philosophy of the sexual and sophisticated 20th Century man.

While Playboy is known for all things provocative, illegality is another matter. Now the men's magazine can thank Bill Marovitz, husband of former Playboy CEO Christie Hefner – daughter of Hugh – for changing that. Marovitz stands accused of using information his wife gave him to trade shares -- a crime known as insider trading. Fortune reports that the SEC has opened a suit against Marovitz and posted the complaint. The basis for the suit reads: Despite instructions from his wife that he should not trade in shares of Playboy and a warning from...

New York -- Christie Hefner is stepping down as Playboy Enterprises chairman and CEO after two decades, the adult entertainment company said in a Monday surprise.
It named media industry veteran Jerome Kern as interim chairman.
Investors cheered the news, bidding shares 22% higher Monday to $2.13. After trading higher than $32 a share less than a decade ago, the stock has been languishing in recent months near an all-time low.
Hefner will stay on as CEO until Jan. 31 and will remain a member of the board until a new CEO joins the company.
"Playboy Enterprises has literally and figuratively been my life and career for more than 30 years," Hefner said, adding that last month marked her 20th anniversary as CEO. "Just as this country is embracing change in the form of new leadership, I have decided that now is the time to make changes in my own life as well," she added without providing details.

Playboy loss
Playboy Enterprises posted a quarterly loss Wednesday, disappointing Wall Street, which expected a profit. The company also predicted a 30% advertising decline at its flagship magazine during the current quarter. The news sent the stock down 1.3% to $8.52. Lower U.S. TV revenue and a deeper loss for its publishing group offset double-digit growth for its international TV and licensing businesses. Playboy said its fourth-quarter loss was $1.1 million, compared with a profit of $3.7 million a year ago. Revenue slipped from $86.2 million a year ago to $85.9 million. Playboy CEO Christie Hefner said the company would invest more in technology, marketing and content to drive growth in online and mobile.

Belo posted lower-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings as it suffered from the depressed advertising market for newspapers. The results included impairment charges, leading to a loss of $333.4 million. Excluding items, quarterly profit was down from $51.3 million a year ago to $33.1 million.
