The influential Florida Family Policy Council, a fixture in Tallahassee since its founding in 2004, likes to claim credit for such political triumphs as the state law banning gay marriage, defunding Planned Parenthood, and forcing the state board of education to teach students evolution is merely a theory, not a fact.

Donald Trump faced a tough crowd Saturday night. The former president received loud boos and sneers from the Libertarian National Convention. “Become ungovernable,” a screen behind Trump read during his speech, and ungovernable they were, prompting Trump to mock them in return.
“Maybe you don’t want to win,” Trump told the crowd after they booed when he told them to nominate him or vote for him. “Keep getting your 3 percent every four years,” he added, referring to the Libertarian Party’s less than stellar showings in prior elections.

After Ivanka Trump first announced her departure from politics in 2021, the daughter of former President Donald Trump has kept her distance from the political sphere – and her father. Ivanka has focused on her family, including her husband, Jared Kushner. Kushner himself has drawn his attention to his personal business affairs, including the construction of a resort in Serbia while raising billions from the Saudi royal family.
During Trump’s hush-money trials in New York, Ivanka and Trump’s wife, Melania, were reportedly “embarrassed” by his legal affairs and refused to attend the proceedings. Ivanka was later photographed at a friend’s wedding with Kushner in Mexico while Trump continued to appear in court.
Friends of Ivanka say she may return to politics and be involved in her father’s second presidential term if she is reelected. Kushner’s investment in Belgrade was already speculated to be a ploy to strengthen...

Former President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the White House state dinner on Thursday. The list of distinguished guests included former President and First Lady Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, actor LeVar Burton, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and more. Around 500 people attended the event on the White House’s South Lawn.
The White House welcomed Kenyan President William Ruto and first lady Rachel Ruto. Other notable Kenyan figures attended, as did the Rutos’ three daughters. President Joe Biden honored the Rutos in his toast and quoted former President Jimmy Carter‘s 1980 speech when another Kenyan president was invited to the White House.
“Neighbors do not share a border but share beliefs,” Biden said. Biden’s speech honored the alliance between the United States and Kenya. A state dinner is one of the most significant ways a president can acknowledge the importance of a foreign power.

At the Libertarian National Convention on Friday, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed his opponent, Donald Trump, in his hour-long speech to the party’s voters. Kennedy criticized Trump’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Kennedy, who is firmly anti-vax, blamed the former president for closing down businesses and violating individual liberties by enforcing mask mandates.
Kennedy Jr. also criticized Operation Warp Speed, a federal program to develop Covid-19 vaccines during the height of the pandemic. Trump announced the program in May 2020 and has previously taken credit for his efforts to distribute a vaccine. Kennedy claimed Trump “caved into bureaucrats,” insinuating Trump’s efforts were another political ploy.
“He got rolled by his bureaucrats. He caved in, and many of our most fundamental rights practically disappeared overnight,” Kennedy said. Kennedy received a standing ovation for his comments.
Trump will address the Libertarian convention in his Saturday speech to its voters.

Special Counsel Jack Smith is asking a federal judge to issue a partial gag order restricting Donald Trump from falsely claiming that FBI agents who searched his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022 were part of a plot to assassinate him.
Smith’s team asked Judge Aileen Cannon to “take steps immediately to halt this dangerous campaign to smear law enforcement.”
Trump has posted repeatedly on social media that the FBI was “locked & loaded ready to take me out & put my family in danger.”
His comments were based on a filing in his criminal case on charges that he withheld government-owned classified documents and obstructed efforts to retrieve them. The filing was a standard form that outlined the Justice Department’s use-of-force policy in the search. It was amplified by right-wing media, including Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, but refuted by other outlets, including Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, who reported that...

Often, the juries at the Cannes Film Festival will try to make a political statement in their choices for the winners of the world’s most famous film festival. Not this year. At least, not in the way they might have.
I rather thought that director Mohammad Rasoulof would take the Palme d’Or for his stirring The Seed Of The Sacred Fig. It deals with the oppressive regime in Iran and the crisis in one family, where the daughters rise up to protest against the wishes of their father, a judge handing out death sentences for those who make their voices heard.
Plus, the back story of Rasoulof’s own daring escape from his home country after making this movie in secrecy and also being handed an eight-year prison sentence, is also a strong one.

After two weeks of nonstop cinema, the moment of truth finally arrived. The winners of the 77th Cannes Film Festival were announced at a gala ceremony on Saturday night.
The Palme d’Or, the fest’s top honor, went to Sean Baker’s sex worker screwball comedy Anora. A nervous and shaking Baker took the stage and thanked the jury, saying he still “couldn’t believe it.” Baker said winning Cannes’ top prize has been “my singular goal as a filmmaker for the past 30 years.”
Baker also singled out Francis Ford Coppola and David Cronenberg, two veteran directors with films in Cannes competition this year, as major inspirations. Baker has come far, going from shooting his 2015 feature Tangerine on an iPhone5s to winning the Palme d’Or. He is the first American director to win the Palme since Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life in 2011.

The price crash has cost the former president, who owns 114,000,000 shares in Tmtg, over $766 million.

Company officials stated that the first quarter results reflect the complications of a deal in March to merge with Digital World Acquisition Corporation. This special purpose acquisition company allowed Trump’s company to be publicized via merger.

‘Reagan’ Trailer Features Dennis Quaid as the 40th U.S. President and His Journey to the White House
The trailer for Reagan features Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan and his journey from childhood to the White House.
The new footage from the Sean McNamara-directed biopic on the 40th President of the United States was released on Thursday.
“From dusty small-town roots, to the glitter of Hollywood, and then on to commanding the world stage, Reagan is a cinematic journey of overcoming the odds,” the film’s synopsis reads. “Told through the voice of Viktor Petrovich, a former Kgb agent who followed Reagan’s ascent, Reagan captures the indomitable spirit of the American dream.”
Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, the trailer kicks off with Quaid, who portrays Reagan as an older man, saying, “There’s nothing a retired governor can do but a president, now he can do a thing or two.”

Donald Trump has claimed that he will use his “great” relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin to secure the release of imprisoned Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

Gershkovich was arrested in Russia in March last year on spying charges. He has spent more than a year in a Moscow prison, with no date set for a trial. The Biden administration and the Wall Street Journal strongly deny the spying charges. U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy has visited the journalist in detention and reported that he remains in a “positive mood” as he awaits a trial for a crime he did not commit.

Well, the first trailer for Dennis Quaid’s Ronald Reagan biopic has debuted. The actor plays the 40th President of the United States in the feature, which promises to span the major events of Reagan’s life, including his confrontation with childhood bullies, his acting career and time leading the Screen Actors Guild and his ascendant rise in politics bolstered by anti-communist rhetoric. Set to a cover of Tears for Fears’ ’80s hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” the trailer tracks how Reagan wanted to rule the free world — and did.
“I was a lifeguard on a river. Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has launched a self-branded coffee line amid spiral legal woes and costs. The new brand seems to be an effort to raise money for his ever-growing list of creditors.
“By supporting Rudy Coffee, you’re not just treating yourself to exceptional coffee, you’re also supporting our cause – the cause of truth, justice, and American democracy,” Giuliani said in the video.
On Tuesday, the former mayor and several other state Republican leaders pleaded not guilty to charges of allegedly conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona.
Giuliani, who was ordered to post a $10,000 bond, was served with the summons on Friday at his 80th birthday celebration in Palm Beach, Florida after Arizona prosecutors had spent weeks trying to track him down. The former mayor claimed he had not been hiding from the authorities and cited security concerns and threats he had received.

The former mayor claimed he had not been hiding from the authorities and cited security concerns and threats he had received.

Donald Trump’s lawyers are attempting to head off a U.S. sale of The Apprentice coming out of Cannes by slapping the filmmakers with a cease and desist letter, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Still, the filmmakers behind the Trump movie look like they will not be swayed from seeking distribution for the movie stateside. “The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president. We want everyone to see it and then decide,” a representative for the film’s producers said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
The legal move by Trump’s legal team follows director Ali Abbasi’s movie receiving a Cannes world premiere, and an eight-minute standing ovation, earlier this week.
Abbasi has already shrugged off a threat from Trump’fs presidential campaign to bring a lawsuit against the project. “Everybody talks about him suing a lot of people...

Donald Trump’s campaign said earlier this week they would take legal action against the filmmakers behind Cannes hit The Apprentice, and now the former Celebrity Apprentice host’s team has made their first jab.
As the Ali Abbasi-directed film seeks a distribution deal to get on U.S. screens, lawyers for the former president have sent an adjective filled cease and desist letter to the producers to stop The Apprentice being seen by anyone Stateside.
“The Movie presents itself as a factual biography of Mr. Trump, yet nothing could be further from the truth,” the May 22 letter to Abbasi and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman states.
“It is a concoction of lies that repeatedly defames President Trump and constitutes direct foreign interference in America’s elections,” the three-page correspondence adds, with a...

Two top Democratic senators have sent a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts requesting to meet with him “as soon as possible” and urging him to “immediately take appropriate steps to ensure that Justice Alito will recuse himself in any cases related to the 2020 presidential election and January 6th attack on the Capitol.”

Bella Hadid joined The Hollywood Reporter for an exclusive photoshoot before the Beating Hearts premiere at Cannes.
The 27-year-old looked stunning in a Versace ensemble with Chopard Haute Joaillerie pieces. Hadid opted for a glimmering archival look, wearing a black halter-neck Atelier Versace gown from the Spring-Summer 2001 collection. The dress was crafted using layered silk tulle for the cinched bustier top that seamlessly shifted into a floor-length skirt embroidered with paillettes.
Bella Hadid attends the Beating Hearts Red Carpet in Versace and Chopard.
The model decided to forgo a necklace, instead drawing focus to her elegant 18-carat white gold earrings that feature 24.12 carats of diamonds. Rounding out her Chopard look were two 18-carat white gold diamond-adorned rings — one with a cushion-shaped spinel and another which with an oval-shaped diamond.
Hadid, the founder of the newly launched fragrance line Orebella, recently opened up about her decision to take a step back from modeling.

Attorneys for Donald Trump have sent a cease and desist letter to the filmmakers behind “The Apprentice” in an effort to block its U.S. sale and release. It warns the team behind the film not to pursue a distribution deal, according to two people who have read the letter. “The Apprentice,” which looks at Trump’s early years as a real estate developer and his relationship with Roy Cohn, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
“The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president,” the producers of the film said in a statement regarding the cease-and-desist letter. “We want everyone to see it and then decide.”

British royal family news showcases the amazing Nigerian Riviera Tour Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took this month, in which both claimed dominion over the country. As one might expect, this quasi-royal pomp and circumstance allegedly did not go over well back at Buckingham Palace where the real royals reside.
To say the little sojourn was controversial would be an understatement. It’s hard to digest the magnitude of vulgarity the Markles engaged in while partying down in Nigeria, but plenty of experts have dissected the visit with clarity. Here is what to know about the fallout from the Nigeria expedition.
Royal Family News – Harry and Meghan And The Money Launderer
Harry and Meghan were welcomed like the royalty they are not. To make up for her lack of royal-ness, the locals proclaimed the jam faker to be a Warrior Princess, and Harry played along by referring to corrupt government officials as his “in-laws.

“Screen Talk: went live at the American Pavilion in Cannes this year and drew a lively crowd. Anne Thompson raved about one of the big-epic Hollywood titles playing out of competition, George Miller’s prequel “Furiosa” (Warner Bros.), starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, which opens May 14, while both Thompson and cohost Ryan Lattanzio panned Kevin Costner’s old-fashioned three-hour Western “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One” (Warner Bros.).
They both agree that this vanity project makes mad genius Francis Coppola’s self-funded $120 million “Megalopolis” look brilliant by comparison. Even if the Competition title is “unhinged,” at least he’s treading new ground, unlike Costner, who has spent some $100 million so far for the first two chapters of a planned four (the second part releases August 16). Coppola still awaits a North American buyer.

Joy Behar Has The View Fans Questioning
Although one of the big perks of working on The View is the way each of the co-hosts can assert their opinions, did Joy Behar take it too far? While viewers are familiar with the norms of the co-hosts’ schedule, something seems a little off for Joy. Notably, Whoopi Goldberg typically takes off on Fridays and Joy Behar is off on Mondays. However, fans were alerted when Joy’s seat was vacated two days in a row following an onscreen altercation.

The New York-set romantic dramedy charts the story of a stripper from Brooklyn who transforms into a modern Cinderella when she meets the son of a Russian oligarch.

Surely no one can blame him for feeling the way that he does. Even though he’s quiet, he doesn’t say much and he’s rarely seen in public, it looks like Barron Trump is interested in following in his father Donald Trump’s footsteps by getting involved in the world of politics.
While there’s no doubt that the former president would love to have his son by his side, if there’s one person that is totally against the idea, it’s his mother, Melania Trump. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

Donald Trump likes to tell anyone who will listen that he’s absolutely convinced he will win his 2024 rematch against President Joe Biden. And, according to people who’ve spoken to the ex-president about this, Trump also seems convinced that if he wins another four years in the White House, state prosecutors will still be waiting for him on the other side of his term — ready to put him on trial, or even in prison, just as they are now.

Joe Biden’s campaign has enlisted Robert De Niro to narrate his latest ad, one that warns that Donald Trump has “snapped” since leading the White House and wants to “terminate the Constitution.”
The 30-second spot will be part of the campaign’s paid media buy for May, airing in broadcast markets in battleground states and on national cable. It also will be featured on digital platforms in battleground states. The spot will start being show today.
De Niro is one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, speaking out about him on talk shows and in awards appearances, and the actor’s use of expletives often get the most attention.
“From midnight tweets, to drinking bleach, to tear-gassing citizens, and staging a photo op. We knew Trump was out of control when he was president,” De Niro says in the spot.
“Then he lost the 2020 election – and snapped. Desperately trying to hold onto power.

Is Messi’s reign as cinema’s current top dog over?
The Palm Dog — Cannes’ annual celebration of on-screen canine performances which was last year won by the blue-eyed border collie from “Anatomy of a Fall,” the first step in a dramatic bound toward furry fame — has crowned a new champion.
The 2024 Palm Dog, presented at a special event on May 24, has been given to Kodi, the senior stray at the heart of acclaimed Swiss-French comedy “Dog on Trial.” The Un Certain Regard title from director and star Laetitia Dosch sees Kodi — believed to be a blonde Griffon cross — plays Cosmos, an aggressive pet who’s taken on as a client by a defense lawyer in story exploring the status of dogs in society. According to Palm Dog founder Toby Rose, Kodi is nearing his 10th birthday and will soon retire from acting, but bow-wows out having delivered a “fine four-legged swan song.

Dave Chappelle said Thursday a “genocide” is striking the Gaza Strip amid the Israel-Hamas war to cheers during his performance in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, while urging Americans to fight antisemitism, so Jews don’t feel like they need to be protected by Israel.
Chappelle’s comments come as Abu Dhabi has maintained its diplomatic relations with Israel even as it has increasingly criticized its conduct in the seven-month war.
Meanwhile, while pro-Palestinian marches have swept across the wider Middle East since the war began, protests and speech remain tightly restricted in the Emirates, a federation of seven sheikdoms on the Arabian Peninsula.
Even before Chappelle came on stage, the full crowd at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena cheered as DJ Trauma, who accompanied Chappelle on the trip, played the song “My Blood Is Palestinian” by the Palestinian singer Mohammed Assaf. The thousands there agreed to...

A jaded nation rediscovered its capacity for shock last week when a photo surfaced of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito flying an upside-down American flag in the days after the January 6 insurrection. That a Scotus judge would strip away all veneer of impartiality concerning an armed attack on the very foundations of American democracy by publicly signaling his support for those storming the Capitol Building to prop up defeated Republican ringleader Donald Trump was enough to make even centrists catch their breath. At least before immediately accepting Alito’s nonsense excuse that his wife did it because the neighbors were mean. Former President Donald Trump has sparked backlash in a controversial interview when he hinted he would support restrictions on birth control access. The comments have prompted a fierce backlash from the Biden-Harris administration and women’s rights advocates.
In an interview with political analyst Jon Delano on Kdka-tv of Pittsburgh, Trump was asked whether he supports any restrictions on a women’s right to contraception. In response, Trump stated that he is “looking at that” and will release a policy on the issue “very shortly.”
When pressed further on the matter, Trump said, “You know, also, things really do have a lot to do with the states, and some states are going to have different policy than others.” This implication of potential state-level restrictions on birth control has drawn widespread criticism.
However, later on Tuesday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to issue a categorical denial in all caps that he would “never,...

President Joe Biden is buying into the meme economy. The Biden for President (Bfp) campaign has shared a job posting for a “Partner Manager” for “Content and Meme Pages.” The person hired for the role will be tasked with combing the internet in search of the dankest Biden content.
According to the posting, Bfp is looking for an internet-savvy employee who can “cultivate and manage relationships with top digital media companies, podcasters, and meme pages across a number of social media platforms.” The full-time position pays between $62,000-$82,000 and requires relocation to Biden’s backyard: Wilmington, Delaware.
The timing of the job posting is interesting, since it went up only a few weeks after Biden signed a law that will force ByteDance to either divest TikTok or remove the platform from U.S. app stores. Many creators have expressed their disapproval regarding the Biden Administration’s heavy-handed approach to TikTok regulation,...

As the GOP struggles to maintain its slim majority ahead of the pivotal November elections, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office is reeling from the sudden departure of its top staff members.
Raj Shah, Johnson’s well-connected communications director and a former White House deputy press secretary under Donald Trump, is the latest high-profile departure. Shah’s impending exit comes just a day after the resignations of three top policy staff members who had worked for the previous speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-California).
McCarthy was ousted in an internal party coup last October, but Johnson retained Brittan Specht, Jason Yaworske and Preston Hill, all respected policy experts. It was reported that they all committed to working for Johnson for six months, providing valuable experience and continuity during the transition of power within the Republican caucus. All three will depart at the end of May.

Few periods on the calendar mean more to cinephiles than the two weekends in May occupied by the Cannes Film Festival. Since its founding in 1946, the French festival has been a launchpad for some of the most artistically significant films of all time. The Palme d’Or is one of the most coveted film awards on the planet, and the festival’s ability to balance subversive arthouse work with major Hollywood premieres has led many to view it as the world’s most significant celebration of cinema.
The 2024 lineup featured a mix of buzzy premieres from New Hollywood titans like Francis Ford Coppola and Paul Schrader alongside exciting new works from emerging directors. Between the Main Competition, Un Certain Regard, special screenings, and sidebars like the Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week, the onslaught of new films can be overwhelming for anyone who isn’t able to give the festival their 24/7 attention.
