This week on the Geek Beat the big talk of our sector of pop culture is revolving around the apparent return of one of the single most beloved characters in all of cinematic science fiction. Since today is officially Star Wars day, James takes a moment to salute George Lucas’ rich universe, which still deserves our love in spite of its flaws…
Happy Star Wars Day! “May the Fourth be with you.” See what they did there? If you say “May the Force be with you” with a lisp you get today’s date and, thus, today is decreed to be Star Wars Day. Speech impediments are brilliant.
So May 4th is Star Wars Day, and why not? The saga deserves an annual celebration. We live in a society that marks nonsense holidays that mean very little and are only really about lauding spurious saints, selling products or encouraging people to drink excessively.
Pancake Day is over-rated. April Fools’ Day is irritating. Bonfire Night is dubious and full of hazards and Valentine’s Day is a tacky guilt-trip masterminded by greeting card and condom companies.

Over the past few months, we here at HeyUGuys have offered up a number of arguments in defense of underestimated filmmakers, their flawed films and the trends that haunt Hollywood even to this day. Never, however, has a property been more deserving of a rebuttal than George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy – an alleged travesty that has apparently robbed a generation of unforgiving fans of their precious childhood memories.
I’ve taken a decidedly different view of the latest additions to the Star Wars cinematic canon – whether as a result of the age at which I first viewed them (as a still-impressionable youngling) or the number of times I’ve since revisited them at the cinema or on DVD – one that is considerably more tolerant and more than happy to see them nestled before the original trilogy in my collection.
Convinced that it is nostalgia – and nostalgia alone – that has...

To celebrate the 14th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (as the two-part opener of Welcome to the Hellmouth / The Harvest first aired on 10th March 1997), here’s a brilliant fanvid by YouTube user punkocarp, combining two of the greatest shows of all time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Who; setting clips from Doctor Who Season 5 (and at least one from the Season 6 trailer) to Nerf Herder’s endlessly relistenable Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme tune.
The end result, featuring the Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River Song, is awesome, being probably the best one of these credit mashups I’ve seen. The tight editing perfectly captures the energy, the goofy character moments, the action, drama, the special effects, and the fun of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer opening credits. What’s more, it’s a great choice of shows to put together, as they’re similar in many ways...

['Chuck' - 'Chuck Versus The Seduction Impossible']
Seven days ago, I expressed some thoughts about how the once-again extended life of 'Chuck' had possibilities, but also potential roadblocks as well. Last week's episode functioned not only as an end to the Volkoff arc, but in many ways the show itself.
It makes sense, in that it was designed as such back when the producers didn't know if that would be the series' swan song. But with the show's death sentence staved off again, could 'Chuck Versus the Seduction Impossible' be anything other than a letdown after the nearly pitch perfect way in which so many things ended last week?
In a nutshell? Yes. How? By changing the pitch of the show or, rather, its tone. So much of the past two seasons has consisted of the increasing burden placed upon the show's titular hero, layered on ounce by ounce, week after week.

Since the release of the comic continuation of Buffy The Vampire Slayer in 2007, speculation of a TV or film continuation has been rife, be it in the form of spin-offs such as Buffy: The Animated Series or the recently announced Buffy The Vampire Slayer film, without the involvement of original creator Joss Whedon or the original cast. However, until now, nothing outside of the comic medium has surfaced. This changes with the release of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Motion Comic.
Since motion comics first became popular, opinion has been generally negative of their ability to tell a linear story without losing aspects of character or plot. Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic received a very mixed response, with some disappointed at the fact that the entire cast was voiced by one actor, and others praising the animation involved. However, the Buffy Motion Comic lacks many of the faults highlighted within others,...

This is my day to shine, readers. My extreme "Star Wars" geekery is frequently a punchline here in the MTV newsroom, and I'm okay with it. But none of that matters on May 4. Why, you ask? Because May 4 is "Star Wars" Day! It's a holiday that's pegged entirely to wordplay: May the Fourth Be With You!
Okay, it's pretty groan-worthy. But it gives me a reason to put words about "Star Wars" here on the blog. The idea is to quote the crap out of George Lucas' classic sci-fi movies today. After the jump, I've listed my 10 favorites. Let's keep it going though; share your own most-loved "Star Wars" quotes in the comments section or with us on Twitter.
10. "It's over Anakin, I have the high ground."
9. "But I was going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!"
8. "Oh, my! What have you done? I'm Backwards. You flea-bitten furball!

Gaming website Kotaku recently reported that Stan Bush wanted his song “The Touch” from the classic, animated Transformers: The Movie in Guitar Hero or Rock Band music videogames. We couldn’t agree more. It’s a rockin’ song that we’d love to play on our fake plastic instruments with our friends.
But why stop with one Transformers song? ComicMix is all about “all types of fantastic media, from comic books television and movies to video games and more.” So Activision and EA, we humbly submit… Scratch that. We demand you make a ComicMix edition of your games for the nerdcore rocker audience.
Our setlist is below. Yeah, we know it’s heavy on Superman. But rockers love the Last Son of Krypton. Send the royalty checks to our offshore PayPal account.
· “Superman” by 3 Doors Down
· “Spider-Man” by The Ramones
· “Godzilla” by Blue Oyster Cult
· “Jimmy Olsen’s Blues” by...
