An Nft celebrating Joy Division’s wavy Unknown Pleasures artwork will include previously unheard vocal samples from the band. The new piece renders the pulsar from the cover as audio, which is then merged with the voice of the late frontman, Ian Curtis.

No idea was ever too much, or inconvenient, for the graphic artists Hipgnosis, whose iconic album artwork designs serve as the centerpiece for Anton Corbijn’s documentary Squaring the Circle: (The Story of Hipgnosis). In the latest trailer for the film, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, musicians Paul McCartney, Nick Mason, Jimmy Page, and more reflect on Aubrey “Po” Powell and Storm Thorgerson’s reign and willingness to go the distance.
“Paul McCartney called me up and he said, ‘I want to put it on Everest,'” Thorgerson said in the trailer,...

Disney has removed a Joy Division-inspired T-shirt from its stores, it has been announced. The T-shirt in question incorporates a Mickey Mouse head into the sleeve of the British band's 1979 debut album Unknown Pleasures. The original artwork was adapted by Peter Saville from a visual representation in the Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy of the first pulsar discovered. However, Disney has confirmed that the T-shirt - which was priced at $$24.99 - is no longer available to purchase, reports Pitchfork. "As soon as we became aware there could be an issue, we pulled it from our shelves and our online store to review the situation further," a Disney representative said. Bids for the unavailable T-shirt have risen as high as $$255 on eBay as of January 26. Joy Division members Peter Hook and Stephen Morris were split on (more)...

Peter Hook and Stephen Morris have offered different opinions on a new Disney T-Shirt inspired by their former band Joy Division. The T-shirt incorporates a Mickey Mouse head into the sleeve of the post-punk band's 1979 debut album Unknown Pleasures. The cover itself was adapted by Peter Saville from a visual representation in the Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy of the first pulsar discovered. "Inspired by the iconic sleeve of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album, this Waves Mickey Mouse Tee incorporates Mickey's image within the graphic of the pulse of a star," the Disney Store website said. "That's appropriate given few stars have made bigger waves than Mickey!" Bassist Hook told NME: "From a legal point of view, the image is in the public domain, as Disney know (more)...

Before surrendering to bland John Hughes sentimentality, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark infused avant-garde circuit-bending with a warm pop heart. History Of Modern—the first true Omd album since recently reunited founders Andrew McCluskey and Paul Humphreys parted in 1989—is meant to recall those early, experimental days, right down to its Peter Saville-designed cover. Occasionally, it works: “Sister Marie Says,” initially scrapped in 1996 for its resemblance to “Enola Gay,” is skeletal synth-pop at its catchiest. The two-part title track and “New Holy Ground” recall the wistful theatricality of Architecture & Morality’s “Joan Of Arc” and Dazzle Ships’ “The ...

Peter Saville has designed the new shirt for the England national football team. The Fa claimed that the former Factory Records designer, famed for his sleeves for Joy Division and New Order among others, had designed a shirt "that is a reflection of his vision of modern England" through its repetition of four coloured crosses. Saville said: "Both the nation and the fans themselves are more diverse than ever before - whether that's differences in politics, religion, ethnicity, fashions, music and art. "The landscape of England has shifted dramatically over the past couple of (more)...

In a new photo shoot for Wallpaper Magazine, noted fashion photographer Peter Saville shoots a new spread called "The Erotic House of Peter Saville," which makes everything from furniture to fashion a thing of fetish.
In the new spread, Saville creates a modern landscape with an erotic twist. The spread features models in various states of undress inhabiting and, at times, becoming one with the abstract pieces of furniture in the recreated environment.
"The project takes a little bit of my reality ten or twelve years ago and plays it out conceptually so that it's not clear whether it's about the people or the protagonists in the role or the furniture they live with," Saville said during the shoot.
"There were kind-of dream-like ideas that I had about some of the interiors that I would see in books and magazines when I was in my teens," Saville said. "So it...
