Kumail Nanjiani: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is Just a “Long episode” of a Forgotten Animated Series
“The Ghostbusters” 1984 brought together a team of eccentric scientists who became New York City’s protectors from the paranormal. The film was a huge critical as well as commercial success. Back in that era, the movie had a worldwide gross of $295 Million.

Four decades later, the film’s success has transitioned into a franchise with five movies, two television shows, and a bunch of video games. The latest in the series is “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” which features an ensemble cast including Kumail Nanjiani, who compared the movie with 80s animated show “The Real Ghostbusters”.

The 1980s was a golden era for TV animation. It was the decade of Thundercats, Inspector Gadget, Transformers, Ducktales, The Smurfs, He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, Care Bears, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Yet arguably, the best of them all was The Real Ghostbusters.
The show arrived at a time when studios were eager to translate box office gold into something palatable for younger audiences. It didn’t always quite go to plan, of course, as short-lived and ill-advised animated incarnations of everything from Rambo to The Karate Kid can attest.
But The Real Ghostbusters was different, running for 140 episodes across seven seasons.

While we wait for the first full trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters to be released on March 3rd, the big bad villain in the film has been revealed in the form of an action figure at Toy Fair. The villain's name is Rowan, and it looks like he's based on the iconic “No Ghosts” logo that was created by the original film’s producer, the late Michael C. Gross.
There are no other details on the character other than that at the moment. You won't be able to buy the completed action figure of Ronan. The character will be divided into four parts and each part will be included with the each of the four Ghostbusters figures that make up the new team. If you collect all figures, you can build Rowan.
The upcoming Ghostbusters movie stars Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones in the four lead roles.

When is a logo not a logo? When it's a bad guy.
Ahead of its March 3rd trailer premiere, Sony Pictures has been talking up its "Ghostbusters" reboot at the Toy Fair event in New York this week and in the process has revealed the identity of the villain in the Paul Feig-directed, female-centric reboot of the franchise according to PixelDan.
It's not Gozer or Viggo, this time it seems the big bad will be Rowan - a ghost based on the design of the ghost seen in the franchise's iconic logo art which was designed by producer Michael C. Gross.
Other ghosts popping up in the film include fan favorite Slimer and a winged demon of some sort. Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones take on the four lead roles in the film which opens July 15th.

Veteran graphic designer Michael C. Gross, best known for creating the instantly iconic Ghostbusters logo, has died of cancer at the age of 70, the New York Times reports. Gross started his career as a teenager, contributing drawings to Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. After marrying his high-school sweetheart at 17 — they met when he was a freshman and she was a senior who liked one of his drawings — he moved to New York to attend Pratt, but dropped out to take a job in the art department at Cosmopolitan. After a brief stint in Mexico designing posters for the 1968 Olympics, Gross began working as an art director for National Lampoon magazine, creating, among others, the cover of the magazine's infamous "Death" issue. He left the magazine in 1974 to start his own design firm; around this time, he also collaborated with John Lennon and Yoko Ono on...

Michael C. Gross, who created the iconic "Ghostbusters" logo, died last Monday, November 16. He was 70 years old. According to the New York Times' obituary, the logo became one of the most famous aspects of the franchise after its prominent use in promotional materials. But that stroke of marketing genius wasn't exactly intentional. At the time, the studio hadn't yet secured the rights to the "Ghostbusters" name. So they went with a visual representation to get the point across: the ghost stuck behind the universal symbol for "no" that appeared on the characters' uniforms and the Ectomobile. "It was never meant to be the logo for the film or anything beyond simply being put on the side of the car as a prop, or on the uniforms or to hang a sign outside the fire station," Gross told the Telegraph last July. The logo has become one of the most recognizable ever,...

Michael Gross, the man responsible for the famous "Ghostbusters" logo from the comedy classics, has died. He was 70.
Gross was a designer and producer whose eclectic career spanned decades and different mediums. In the early 1970s, he worked as an art director designing covers for National Lampoon magazine, and was responsible for one of the publication's most famous images, featuring a dog with a gun pointed at its head and the slogan, "If you don't buy this magazine we'll kill this dog." He also did some freelance design work for John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
While working for National Lampoon, Gross made many famous friends, and followed his pals Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd to Los Angeles in 1979, where they eventually collaborated on 1984's "Ghostbusters," Gross's second film. It was for that flick that Gross designed the logo, called No Ghosts, which became synonymous with the series and an iconic image known throughout the world.

Ghostbusters has one of the most recognizable movie logos ever made. It’s a simple image of a ghost that is trapped in a “no” symbol. That design was created by producer and designer Michael C. Gross, and to pay tribute to the man, there’s an art show opening today in Los Angeles called “No Ghost Logos.”
Over 30 artists are participating in the show and each one gives their unique take on the classic Ghostbusters logo. I have included a few pieces that will be on display below.
The show takes place tonight from 7-9pm October 30th at Creature Features, which is located at 2904 West Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, CA. It’s a pretty awesome little monster movie shop that is worth checking out even if you’re not going to see the art. You can click here for more information.

Chicago – Before the days of 24/7 internet access to every form of entertainment that exists, there were eras of radical performance expression that changed the landscape of attitudes toward everything – think of The Beatles evolving music and also changing social culture. The roots of another evolution, especially in comedy, began with a modest humor magazine that brought together the right mix of anarchists and misfits. What they did would influence comedy for years afterward, and their story is told in “Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon,” directed by Douglas Tirola.
“National Lampoon” Magazine was a national publication founded in 1970, that was spawned from the Harvard Lampoon, and brought together a team of 1960s-influenced comic radicals that changed the way humor was conveyed. No sacred cows existed on their pages, and the magazine also broke out into signature comedy records, stage performances and radio shows. This cottage industry featured...

I want to ask you a question. Do you really want to see "Ghostbusters 3"? Before you answer, I want you to consider every angle. I don't want the knee-jerk response, because I know what the knee-jerk response is, and so does Columbia, and so do Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman. The knee-jerk response is easy. After all, I love the original 1984 film "Ghostbusters," and I'm more than willing to cop to a fondness for the admittedly-lesser sequel. On the surface, the thought of more "Ghostbusters" is appealing. Undeniably so. I won't lie. When I was 21 or 22 years old, my writing partner Scott Swan and I had an elaborate written treatment for "Ghostbusters 3" that I was convinced I was somehow going to get in front of the right people. After all, when I was 21 and 22 years old, I had almost constant access to Joe Medjuck, Michael Gross, and Ivan Reitman...

Over 130 stars have weighed in on the SAG strike authorization, coming out firmly against. Citing the economy, the A-listers “strongly” urged SAG members not to authorize a strike, and instead “take the high road … unite with our brothers and sisters in the entertainment community and … three years down the line … make a great deal” when all the union contracts expire roughly simultaneously.
Finally, we’re hearing from the A-listers, and it may be enough to pull SAG back from the brink. Meanwhile SAG Board members in NY and Chicago came out against the authorization over the weekend.
In addition, SAG President Alan Rosenberg was forced to cancel the emergency in-person National Board meeting he had scheduled for this Friday, after SAG activists pointed out in the strongest terms that Rosenberg had no right under the SAG constitution or state law to require that the meeting be in person, rather than by videoconference.
