All3Media has acquired Call The Midwife and Penny Dreadful producer Neal Street Productions.
The takeover, first revealed by Screen’s sister publication Broadcast last week, is the super-indie’s first straight acquisition since it bought Optomen and Gordon Ramsay’s One Potato Two Potato in 2010.
It is also the first deal for All3Media since it was acquired by Discovery Communications and Liberty Global in May 2014.
Neal Street was founded by Skyfall director Sam Mendes, former BBC drama commissioner Pippa Harris and theatre impresario Caro Newling in 2003.
The company was put up for sale in November and was seeking a purchase price of around $60m (£40m). All3Media has not disclosed how much it paid for the scripted firm.
Broadcast’s Indie Survey 2015 showed Neal Street reported turnover of $60m (£40m) in the 12 months to 30 March 2014. It is listed as the 17th largest production label in the UK and was the second largest ‘true’ indie.

Mass Effect has been one of my favorite new IP's of this generation, and while I'm sad the Shepard trilogy has come to an end, I'm equally excited to see what is next for the universe. That said, I have seen some wonderful cosplay based on the franchise, far too many to contain to one post. That did not keep me from trying, however, so here are some of my favorites.

Some of the best films of the 2012/2013 calender year from Richard Linklater, Harmony Korine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Bujalski, Jeff Nichols, David Gordon Green, Shane Carruth and Joshua Oppenheimer are among the headliner names for the 2013 edition of the South by Southwest Film Festival. With a little over 100 plus film line-up (a whopping 2000+ titles were submitted), almost 70 are world premieres: there is the highly anticipated sophomore film (that has been on our radar since it first went into production) with M. Blash’s (The Wait), Joe Swanberg who makes SXSW his second home will premiere Drinking Buddies, veteran indie filmmaker John Sayles saddles in with Go For Sisters, and rounding out the Narrative Spotlight section we’ve got The Bounceback from Bryan Poyser, Loves Her Gun from Geoff Marslett along with titles we thought might break into Park City, but found an Austin home instead with Jacob Vaughan’s Milo and...

Toronto-based Cinram International makes and distributes pre-recorded DVDs, Blu-ray discs, audio CDs, and CD-ROMs for movie studios, music labels, publishers and software companies and shipped 881 million units to U.S. retailers in 2009, Bloomberg reports. It announced today that it is selling almost all of its assets to newly formed Najafi Cos and filed Chapter 15 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, as did several subsidiaries. The company, which has 20 facilities in North America and Europe, can produce up to 2.1 billion DVDs, 55 million Blu-rays and 500 million CDs each year, its website says. Operations are expected to continue “in the normal course”, Cinram CEO Steven Brown said today in a letter to investors and customers. The courts must approve the sale of the U.S. and Canadian assets to Najafi, which also intends to bid on the European operations. “Cinram is a market leader in its industries with a long track record of best in class performance,...

There's nothing like a good heist drama, and "Inside Men" (9 p.m. Et on Wednesday, June 20 on BBC America) looks like one of the better examples of the genre.
This review will be shorter than usual for two reasons: First, I want to post this recommendation as soon as I can, given that the four-part series begins tonight, and second, to give anything away about how the story unfolds would ruin a lot of what makes this UK drama an enjoyably tense diversion.
If you saw the Idris Elba cop show "Luther," you'll recognize a couple of the faces in the cast: Steven Mackintosh ("Luther's" DC Ian Reid) stars as a mild-mannered manager at a cash-processing facility, and Steven Brown ("Luther's" DS Justin Ripley) plays a worker at the facility.
Mackintosh has just the right hangdog qualities for his man-in-a-grey-flannel suit role: His character has to blend into...
