A few years ago Sylvester Stallone was developing a fifth Rambo movie called Rambo V: Savage Hunt, but the development of it was shut down in 2011. Since then, there hasn't been much talk of a new Rambo movie. There was a TV series announced last year, but Stallone isn't going to be a part of that.
Some information has now surfaced from Splendid Film that the production companies that are developing the TV series have bought the rights to the next film. They also say that Stallone will be coming back to reprise his role. A press release was posted, but it's in a different language. This is what part of it translates to:
"With Rambo V Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country for Old Men.

We learned last year that a Rambo television series was in the works with Avi Lerner, Entertainment One and New Image, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard much of anything about the long-rumored Rambo V. Is Sylvester Stallone done with the iconic character, or is there another installment on the way?
The status of a fifth film has been up in the air for some time now, but we heard in 2011 that Conan the Barbarian scribe Sean Hood was working on a screenplay in the vein of Unforgiven. Then, the next year, Hood tweeted that Rambo V would happen after The Expendables 2. Now, we’ve got an Expendables 3 hitting theaters and still no new Rambo. What gives?
It looked for a while as if Rambo V was destined to dwell in development hell for eternity. Today, however, is an exciting day for fans of the franchise,...

I thought Sylvester Stallone's return in Rambo back in 2008 was a bloody, throat-ripping good time. It wasn't high cinema, but it was exactly what I wanted and what The Expendables franchise has so far been unable to duplicate. However, on a reported budget of $50 million, the $113.2 million worldwide box office returns weren't exactly the kind of numbers today's films need to make to get an immediate sequel. Had that number been $150 million I think we would have seen Rambo V: The Savage Hunt as the originally planned fifth film was said to be titled at one point, going as far back as August 2009. In fact, the film even had an official synopsis at one point: John Rambo (Stallone) could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultra-sensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose...

Beau Brady has revealed that Bec Hewitt broke his heart. The 28-year-old Australian actor, who met and got together with Hewitt when they played Noah Lawson and Hayley Smith respectively in Home and Away, said that he regrets ever asking her to marry him. Brady told Woman's Day magazine: "I look back at it now and realise proposing to Bec was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. It was just a stupid, young (more)...

Sylvester Stallone seems to be unable to make up his mind where "Rambo V" should be heading. First, he was supposed to cross the U.S.-Mexican border, and then, he was supposed to hunt down a beast.
Not anymore. In fact, it looks like the fifth installment in the "Rambo" series is now going back to Mexico. As we learned earlier this year, the original idea had our hero cross the border to rescue a kidnapped girl.
In September, however, it was announced that Rambo and his partner Beau Brady would be heading to the Arctic Circle to track down a ruthless beast killing members of a research facility.

Sylvester Stallone has given an update about his upcoming film "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt". In his email to Craig Zablo's StalloneZone, the actor informs that the film has gone through some changes in the storyline as well as the character.
"I'm letting you know that Rambo has changed course and the story about hunting the man/beast will be done using another character in the lead," Stallone wrote. He then added, "Rambo himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished."
Previously, Sylvester Stallone has released a plot synopsis for the upcoming "Rambo" film. The story is said to begin when the military desperately needs John Rambo for a mission that he cannot refuse. Teaming up with his 22-year-old hunting partner, Beau Brady, Rambo has to hunt down a beast that is loose somewhere north of the Artic Circle and heads south toward civilization.

One week ago, news broke regarding the next entry in Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo franchise.
Rambo V: The Savage Hunt will divert the franchise into science fiction territory akin to Predator.
The official plot synopsis according to Aint it Cool News was loud and clear:
A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle…And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation…It’s a job that Rambo and his 22-year-old hunting partner, Beau Brady, can’t turn down, but they and a team of highly skilled Special Forces Kill Team [sic] discover that the prey is beyond their wildest imagination, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments…they’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.
As far as I know, the only franchises to really change its genre...

Last week, Nu Image/Millennium Films announced that a fifth installment in the "Rambo" franchise is being planned. Along with the announcement, a storyline was provided. The plot of the fifth film has Rambo fighting human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.
But Sylvester Stallone complained to Ain't It Cool News that the plot storyline provided was wrong! Here's the synopsis of the "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt" according to Stallone himself:
John Rambo could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Artic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.

Sylvester Stallone'S proposed Rambo V is to venture into sci-fi territory in a marked change of direction that also introduces a sidekick for the Vietnam War veteran.
According to Ain't It Cool News, Stallone's character - who has previously operated alone - will be tracking down the monstrous result of genetic experiments, with the aid of a young partner.
The story for Rambo V: The Savage Hunt is based on James Byron Higgins' 1999 novel Hunter to which Stallone purchased the film rights.
The screenplay for 63-year-old Stallone's latest instalment will replace the book's main character Nathaniel Hunter with John Rambo.
In that book, according to Amazon's description,"an illicit medical experiment has gone wrong, and an attempt to combine the recovered DNA of one of our more violent and predatory predecessors with that of modern man has resulted in a creature whose amazing powers of brain and muscle are...

Last week, Nu Image/Millennium Films officially green lit “Rambo 5” and announced that Sylvester Stallone, along with starring, would once again write and direct.
Stallone tells AICN that upcoming fifth installment of the John Rambo series, “Rambo 5: A Savage Hunt“, will be quite different from the previous films. The new film won’t see Rambo battling human traffickers and drug lords at all. He added that film will be set in the Pacific Northwest.
It seems that somewhere in that Area there is a U.S. Military installation that is doing experiments on elite soldiers as part of some sort of program where they’re attempting to tap into that savagery that we have deeply embedded into us.
Here is the synopsis for “Rambo 5: The Savage Hunt”:

Sylvester Stallone recently got in contact with AICN to explain what the upcoming "Rambo 5" movie will be about. He said that the idea is a bit sci-fi and will revolve around a military project that develops super-soldiers by bringing out their "savagery." When one of these soldiers escapes, Rambo and a Black Ops squad are called in to save the day. Stallone has now followed that up with the official and more detailed plot synopsis for "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt," which is almost word-for-word (with an addition of a sidekick) the same synopsis as the one for James Byron Huggins' "Hunter" novel. It turns out that Stallone bought the rights to the novel ten years ago and is now adapting it as the new Rambo movie. Official "Rambo 5" synopsis: John Rambo could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a...

Sometimes, I wake up and thank God I am me. I relish in what I have been given and what I have achieved in life, and I cannot imagine it any other way. Then, there’s days like today, where I read about Harry Knowles getting a voicemail from Sylvester Stallone, a voicemail, mind you, about ‘Rambo V.’ Lucky bastard! Evidently, Stallone is hard at work on the new adventure for John Rambo, and it’s something you might not be expecting.
Just check out this synopsis for ‘Rambo V: The Savage Hunt’:

We live in strange times. Sylvester Stallone wants to do another Rambo sequel. No surprise there. Now he's talking about making it PG-13, which is nearly impossible to fathom, especially after the all-out bloodbath that was last year's Rambo. But even more perplexing is that it looks to be heading into the direction of sci-fi action horror with John Rambo tracking a genetically engineered monster run amok. We're a long way removed from First Blood now.
Coming Soon scored the following synopsis for what is currently being titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, a Rambo sequel that would see the Vietnam vet recruited back into service to use his tracking skills to assist a Black Ops squad in pursuit of a marauding man-animal created by military scientists conducting genetic experiments involving human savagery.
