Hammer Films was a premier company when it came to making horror films in the 1950′s and 1960′s. But as times were changing, the company started faltering and were putting out watered down stories and sexually exploitative cinema. It seemed as if there were no more gems in their collection and that they’d just crank out the same old Dracula films with Christopher Lee starring in them. But then came a title that just sounds so interesting, you can’t believe it’s a real film. Vampire Circus is a bright spot of the later Hammer Films and thankfully Synapse Films has put it out on Blu-ray.

Some of you have probably seen The Trotsky during the last Toronto International Film Festival, Festival du nouveau cinéma or Kingston Canadian Film Festival. The wait will almost be over, because The Trotsky will hit Canadian theatres on May 14. Besides, the poster and the trailer of this comedy from Jacob Tierney have been online since a few days.

The Trotsky Written and directed by Jacob Tierney Starring: Jay Baruchel, Colm Feore, Saul Rubinek, Genevieve Bujold, and Emily Hampshire There's nothing like a good movie about Marxism and fascism. Montreal born director Jacob Tierney has made quite an amusing film here. Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder) stars as teenager Leon Bronstein and he truly believes that he is the reincarnation of Bolshevik and Marxist theorist Leon Trotsky. Why do you ask? Well, for one Leon Bronstein was the given name to Leon Trotsky and this kid has a big thing for workers rights and unions. He thinks his life should parallel Trotsky's life so much that he plans on being exiled, at least twice, and ultimately assassinated. At the moment though, he's quite focused on finding his Lenin and an older woman to marry, preferably named Alexandra. We get a good glimpse of what this kid is all about when,...
