Synopsis

  • Mack is driving through the street of NYC with Deke and Freddy, and police sirens sound behind them. Turning off the headlights and pulling into an alley, Mack loses their pursuers. Freddy says that now they have to deliver the goods and gets more disreputable clothing stored in the trunk so that they don't stand out in their party tuxedos. Deke calls the others on a radio and gets no response, and Mack realizes that Freddy is moving booze. When he suggests that they leave, Deke insists that they're bootleggers just like Freddy and they'll take him wherever he wants to go.

Once Mack and Deke go to the front seat, Freddy takes out the vial with the Hydra seal on it, says that the future is going to be his, and slips the vial into the bottle of bootleg alcohol before putting the bottle in with the others.

May wakes up in the healing pod and discovers that the fatal wound on her stomach is gone.

Coulson and Daisy tend to Freddy's wounded contact, and Coulson tells Koenig that all he needs to know is that they're there to help. As Koenig complains that they've been nothing but trouble since they've shown up, there's a knock at the front door of the speakeasy. It's Yoyo and Simmons, who came in response to Coulson's call. Simmons tends to the contact, but she needs hospital attention. She operates to remove the bullet, and Coulson tells her and Yoyo that Freddy's last name is Malick, and he's the father of the head of Hydra in their time. Daisy wonders what the consequences will be if Mack and Deke don't protect Freddy, and Coulson points out that if Hydra doesn't form, SHIELD doesn't form in response. Daisy isn't convinced they should protect Freddy, but Coulson insists that they can't disrupt the timeline and something worse could arise to replace Hydra.

Simmons says that the contact will be okay, and Yoyo suggests that they stay for a while and be a good influence on Freddy, and Simmons points out that would still change the timeline. Koenig comes back and tells them that they have to disappear for a while because the police are checking every speakeasy looking for Freddy.

Coulson calls Enoch at the Zephyr and tells him that they're coming back, and they need to find a way to reach Mack. Enoch says that he'll try and find a way to boost the radio transmitter, and then tells the team that May is awake. Simmons warns that it's too soon and they don't know what side effects the treatment might have on May. When she tells Enoch to sedate May and put her back in the healing pod, Enoch says that he'll do his best but May doesn't seem in the mood to take orders.

Enoch finds May performing pull-ups and suggests that she should get some rest, and May tells him that she'll rest when she's dead. She recognizes Enoch and he says that he's Fitz's best friend, but he and May haven't met in the current timeline. When he proffers a sedative that Simmons proscribed it for May, May jams it into Enoch's shoulder and demands to know where everyone is. The sedative has no effect on the Chronicom, and Enoch explains that the others are on a mission. All May remember is fighting her way through the spirit world, and Enoch tells her that she died momentarily. Simmons saved May using technology she developed, Enoch explains that May is in the year 1931', and May calmly goes to get some food.

Mack and Deke take the bootleg alcohol to the beach as Freddy directs them, and he admits that he doesn't know who the buyer is. The meet-up is 500 miles away, and says that they should leave in the car. A train pulls up nearby, and Deke warns that the police won't give up until they find Freddy and finish him off. Mack says that they have a job to do and it's to make sure Freddy makes the delivery.

Koenig warns the team that the police are out front, and the front door is the only way in or out. Two police officers break in a few seconds later and only find Koenig there, and he calmly greets them. They look around and ask when Koenig last saw Freddy, and Koenig tells them that he started hanging around with some "Canadian Mounties". Koenig notices a whiskey glass where Simmons put the removed bullet, and drinks it before the officers notice.

The officers break down the locked door to Koenig's office and the team are hiding a secret room behind a painting. The contact wakes up and Simmons muzzles her before she can cry out, and Koenig distracts the two officers before they can hear her. They tell Koenig to contact them if he sees Freddy, and Koenig agrees. The contact knocks over a bottle and Yoyo is unable to use her power and catch it. The officers hear the bottle break on the floor, and Koenig claims rats made the noise.

One officer draws his gun and trains it on Koenig, while the other goes back into the office. Before he can find the secret room, a third officer comes in and says that they found the team's getaway car, and the two officers leave. Koenig locks the door behind them and the team emerges from the room. Daisy tells the contact that they need some answers first before they take her to a hospital, and asks why the contact was meeting Freddy at the party. She says that she's a friend of Freddy's father, while Simmons checks her passport and discovers the woman has been in Germany six times in the last year. She finds a splash of solidified chemical on the woman's shoe and tests it with some ingredients from the bar.

Daisy calls Enoch and he says that it will take some time to boost the radio. While Daisy worries that Freddy did something to them, May comes into the room and overhears the conversation. Enoch looks up but May has slipped away

In a cargo car on the train, Freddy looks at the agents' radio and asks Deke if he invented it as Mack claimed. Deke plays along and Mack asks Freddy what his "thing" is. Freddy says that he made some friends in school, and his father killed himself when the market crashed. The Malicks lost everything and his mother hasn't spoken since her husband killed himself. Mack says that he's sorry, but Freddy shrugs off the situation and says that he did what he had to do. Deke agrees with Freddy that there's no harm in giving people what they want, and Freddy says that he has dreams for his future and they don't include bootlegging. Mack wonders if the booze is more than just booze, and Freddy figures that whatever it is won't change the world.

At the bar, Simmons continues testing the chemical compound. Meanwhile, Daisy asks Yoyo why she didn't stop the bottle. Yoyo claims she didn't, but Daisy doesn't believe her. Her teammate says that she froze, and figures that the Shrike infection messed her up inside. Before she can explain further, Simmons says that she says that the compound was used by the German in World War II. Koenig wonders what she means by "World War II", and Simmons ignores him and says that the compound was synthesized by German scientist Abraham Erskine. Erskine used it to create the Red Skull, and Freddy is about to deliver the key ingredient used to create the super soldier serum.

Once Freddy dozes off, Mack and Deke check the bottle of bootleg. Enoch reach them briefly on the radio, waking up Freddy, and he notices the bottles of alcohol while Mack tries to contact Enoch. Mack is unable to raise the Chronicom, and Freddy asks why he was snooping through his good. The agent says that he thinks there's more to what's in the bottles.

At the Zephyr, Enoch continues trying to boost the radio equipment. May comes in and figures that the team is in trouble, and says that she needs to be in the field. Enoch warns that she's in no condition to leave, and asks how she's feeling. She tells the Chronicom that she's not feeling anything, and tells Enoch that the only complications he needs to worry about are what will happen to him if he doesn't tell her where her teammates are. Enoch says that he's not allowed to divulge the information.

Daisy points out that if they don't stop Freddy, he'll build up Hydra and create Red Skull. Coulson points out that he already has and they can't fix the mistakes of the past. Koenig figures that they're all crazy, and Coulson and Daisy disagree on whether they should stop Hydra's creation. Daisy says that it's Mack's decision to make since he's the director, just as May calls on the radio. Simmons takes the call since May doesn't know Coulson is back. May says that she'll find Mack and Deke and leaved to find them, with Enoch trailing along.

Daisy ungags the contact and asks her where Freddy is going to end up. The woman says that they can't stop progress and can go to hell. Koenig realizes that she's talking about Hell's Harbor, and they need to fly to get there. He insists on going with them in the Zephyr, and Koenig warns that it's his price: otherwise he won't give them the location.

The Chronicoms posing as policemen realize that Freddy is on a train and prepare to intercept it. Their leader, Luke figures that if they succeed then they will eliminate SHIELD from the timeline, including the agent protecting Freddy.

Freddy refuses to let Mack open the bottles and endanger his reputation along with his life. Mack tells him that no one will ever know and he should step aside. Freddy does so, and the two agents check the bottles. Freddy draws his gun and says that he can't let them do it, and says if they let him do his job then they can all go home.

Enoch draws a gun on May and tells her that he can't let her leave the Zephyr. She figures he doesn't have the guts to pull the trigger and punches him. Enoch shrugs off the blow, and May disarms him and heads for the exit. The Chronicom jumps ahead of her, blocking her path, removes his jacket, and the two of them fight. Enoch has upgrades to the Hunter-level skill package, and May continues fighting him. She finally hits him repeatedly with a fire extinguisher, and Coulson and the others arrive and Coulson tells May to stand down. May realizes that Coulson isn't Sarge or the real Coulson. He wonders why she isn't surprised to see him when he was dead, and May tells him that he still is before impassively walking away.

May lets Simmons sedate her without putting up any resistance, and Simmons puts May back in the healing pod. Enoch says that May is malfunctioning, and says that he couldn't contact Mack. The Chronicom figures that once they're closer to their destination, they should be able to contact their teammates. Meanwhile, Coulson brings the blindfolded Koenig aboard the Zephyr and removes the blindfold, and Koenig is shocked to see the interior of a "rocket ship". He sees the metal plating of Enoch's skull, revealed when May hit him earlier, and figures the Chronicom is a robot.

Koenig figures the agents are all Martians, and Coulson says that they're not and it's time for Koenig to take them to hell. After a few minutes, the cloaked Zephyr leaves.

Freddy tells Mack and Deke to come clean about who they really are. Deke tells him that they came a long way to make sure Freddy doesn't die, and Mack agrees. He asks how Freddy knows his no-name buyer won't kill him after he gets what he wants, and Freddy says that the woman who knew her father is someone he trusts. He figures the buyer won't kill him unless he does something stupid.

The train jerks to a stop, and Mack jumps Freddy, while Deke grabs Freddy's dropped gun. Freddy figures that the train stopped because they're at their destination.

Koenig asks where the team is from, and Coulson explains that they've traveled through time and members of SHIELD. Yoyo says that Freddy is going to be a threat, and Simmons learns that the time window is closing. In 17 minutes the Zephyr will leave 1931 with or without them. She admits that she doesn't know when the launch windows will open. Coulson has Daisy contact Mack to tell him they have a limited window of opportunity.

Daisy radios Mack and Deke, and Deke responds. She says that Freddy is very dangerous, and warns Deke not to let Freddy out of his sight. Deke mentions that he has a gun, and Daisy tells him to kill Freddy, figuring they can't pass up the opportunity to kill a major player in the future Hydra.

Mack is with Freddy, checking the bottles, and finds the one with the vial. As he dumps it out, Deke comes over and tells Mack who Freddy is. Freddy has no idea what they're talking about, but recognizes the word "Hydra" when Mack mentions the organization. Deke says that he has orders to kill Freddy and aims the gun at Freddy, and Mack says that he gives the order. Freddy wonders why Deke is going to kill him when they said they're there to protect him, and Mack orders Deke to put the gun down.

Freddy insists that he's never hurt anyone, and after a moment Deke lowers the gun. Then he shoots at the Chronicom policemen as they arrive and open fire, and the trio take cover.

On the Zephyr, Coulson and Daisy arm themselves. Yoyo informs them that they've lost contact with Mack and Deke, and Daisy tells her to stay on the Zephyr. Coulson gives Koenig a gun and tells him to bring Freddy back to the Zephyr, and Enoch goes with them since he can deal with other Chronicoms most effectively.

Mack and the others take cover, and the Hunters blast away at the crate they're hiding behind. Mack charges one of the Chronicoms, and. Freddy grabs the vial when Deke isn't looking, While Mack wrestles with the Chronicom. Coulson, Daisy, and Koenig arrive in their car shooting, and Mack disarms the Chronicom. Its own gun doesn't work against it, but he uses it as a club to knock down the Chronicom.

Mack and Zeke shoot the Chronicom, knocking it down from the impacts. The other Chronicom shoots at them, and Freddy runs off. Mack sends Koenig and Enoch to find Freddy, and Coulson and Daisy tell Mack that they have three and a half minutes left before the Zephyr jumps to the future.

Koenig finds Freddy in a nearby warehouse and tells Freddy that he's better than his father and shouldn't make the same choices. Freddy says that he's doing it to be somebody, and shoots Koenig in the shoulder. He says that Koenig doesn't know him, and Freddy gets into the buyer's car as the latter arrives. The buyer then drives off.

Luke realizes that they've failed, and Hydra will arise and SHIELD will be created to oppose it. He tells his associate that they need to go before the time window closes, and the two Chronicoms leave.

Coulson confirms that the Chronicoms have left and they get into the car to drive back to the Zephyr. Koenig tells him that Freddy went with the buyer, and Coulson calls Enoch. Enoch tells Coulson that Freddy made his delivery and the future is secure, and Coulson tells Enoch to get back to the Zephyr. Koenig agrees and Enoch leaves,

The team boards the Zephyr, and with thirty seconds left, Simmons says that they have to close the door or the ship will be torn apart. Mack gives the order, and Enoch comes running up. The Zephyr goes through the time window before Enoch can reach the ship, and Enoch goes back to Koenig.

Later back at the speakeasy, Enoch makes drinks for himself and Koenig. Koenig is impressed and hires Enoch as his new bartender as long as Enoch tells him more about SHIELD. He also wants to know everything about Chronicoms. Enoch says that Koenig will help SHIELD in the future, and they share a toast to their new "friendship".
