Two women who grew up together discover they have drifted apart when they retreat to a lake house together.

Two women go away together. One meets a man that distracts her from being there for her friend. The betrayed friend says, "One day you will need me, and then I won't be there for you." When they next go away together the roles are reversed, the threat becomes reality. But the two situations are not exactly the same - the man in the first scenario was benign, the man in the second scenario is toxic. Just like last year, a once-happy Catherine comes to stay at the secluded lake house of her best friend, Virginia; only, this time, she has come to spend a weekend of healing self-imposed banishment. But, after two pivotal events in her life, a devastated Catherine senses that her friendship with Virginia is starting to wane, and the roles are now reversed. More and more, the two women find themselves consumed by a sinister undercurrent of deep resentment and total contempt, and what's even more disheartening, there's no telling how this vacation will end.
