After learning that the 2nd SS Division is coming their way, the Major calls it " Hitler's elite guards". The 2nd SS Pz. Div was indeed an elite SS Division, but Hitler's personal bodyguard was the 1st SS Pz.Div.

Near the end of the movie Marie picks up the bag of gold bars with her right hand and carries it to the burial vault despite her right shoulder being shot with Mauser c96 9mm pistol.

Everybody smokes filtered cigarettes. During WW2, all cigarettes were without filter. Cigarette filters were made widely available in the early 1950s. The German officer smokes orange filtered cigarettes, which appeared during the 1970s.

At one point, the major tells the others that he has called in the Air Force. The Air Force did not exist during World War II. During the war, it was still the Army Air Corps.

In the opening scene, Von Bruckner and Marie are driving in the outskirts of Aubagne in Provence, heading to the cemetery to bury the gold. Later, the GIs receive a radio call about an approaching SS unit, about 20 minutes from their position which according to the map is around Baume-Les-Dames in Burgogne. The distance between the two towns is around 600 kilometers, i.e. 6 hours drive on modern roads.

When the Germans are approaching the cemetery, one if them is riding a motorcycle with a Wehrmacht (army) plate WH-72172. An SS division motorcycle would have an SS- plate.

The rank of Bruckner is Sturmbannführer (Colonel) but he wears the rank insignia of Obersturmführer - Lieutenant (collar badge) and Hauptsturmführer - Captain (shoulder strap).

Von Bruckner wears collar badge of Obersturmfuhrer (Lieutenant) and shoulder strap of Hauptsturmfuhrer (Captain).

Bruckner is talking to a Sturmmann (Senior Private) in his tent about the escape route. The Sturmmann wears LSSAH (1 SS Panzer Division) shoulder straps but their unit is the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich"
