- Olaf and Kåre gather their forces to invade Kattegat. Palace intrigue over control of England's throne results in an unexpected turn of events.
- To prevent Ælfgifu from sending Canute's fleet to Olaf, Forkbeard seemingly banishes Emma to Normandy. Ælfgifu and Godwin then travel to Mercia and convince the Mercians to give Forkbeard their support. However, in Ælfgifu's absence, Forkbeard locates Canute's fleet and Emma retakes the throne of England. In Norway, Harald chooses to side with Olaf but secretly informs Leif of Olaf's attack plan. As the Battle for Kattegat begins, Kåre's forces assault the city walls and whilst defending Kattegat, Haakon, Altöra and Arne are killed by Kåre's followers. Obsessed with killing Freydís, Kåre hunts her down to the great hall but she is able to outmaneuver and behead him. Knowing his brother would betray him, Olaf's attack plan is revealed to have been a ruse in order to weaken both Haakon and Kåre's forces. Olaf's army arrives in Kattegat with little resistance and Olaf mortally wounds Liv who dies in Leif's arms. Harald is wounded during the battle, but Freydís comes to his aide and they flee. Olaf claims victory, but after Forkbeard arrives with Canute's fleet, Olaf's forces quickly abandon Kattegat. Forkbeard's grandson Harold Harefoot then discovers several of Kåre's followers slaughtered and an enraged Leif covered in blood.
- To prevent Aelfgifu from sending Canute's fleet to Olaf, Forkbeard seemingly banishes Emma to Normandy. Forkbeard invalidates Emma's marriage to Canute and thus her status as the Queen of England.
Aelfgifu knows that Forkbeard does not trust her yet. She consults Godwin who says that Forkbeard would trust her if she can contribute something meaningful to the Kingdom, such as a strong ally. Godwin proposes that Aelfgifu tries to recruit Mercia as Forkbeard's ally. Aelfgifu was confident of her quest as she belongs to the house of Mercia herself. Godwin argues to Forkbeard that Mercia still has a strong army and can be a future threat to the throne. Aelfgifu and Godwin then travel to Mercia and convince the Mercians to give Forkbeard their support. Aelfgifu secures the agreement with Mercia with a promise to advocate in court for their independence.
However, in Aelfgifu's absence, Forkbeard locates Canute's fleet, and Emma retakes the throne of England.
In Norway, Harald chooses to side with Olaf. Kare has a large army at his disposal. Olaf tells Harald that Kare is obsessed with killing Freydis. Olaf also says that he knows of Harald's deal with Canute to be crowned the King of Norway. Harald says that Olaf is killing Pagans and inciting civil war and says that had he waited long to be King, there would be no Norway left to rule. Olaf is confident that Canute has no resources left to challenge him and by the time he does, Olaf would have consolidated all of Norway.
Olaf reveals his plan to invade Kattegat. He says that the harbor of Kattegat is well defended cannot be crossed even at high tide and hence the enemy is forced to attack the walls of the city, where the city puts all of their defenses. Olaf says that in 2 days there will be a Wolf Moon, which will create a swell large enough for Olaf's ships to sail over the harbor defenses and land soldiers on their beaches. The invasion of Kattegat will be from the sea. Kare does not trust Harald, even though he seems to support the invasion of Kattegat and the murder of Christians residing in Kattegat as just sacrifice for their cause. Harald secretly informs Leif of Olaf's attack plan when Haakon comes to meet Olaf for a Pre-war parley. Olaf offers to spare the city if the city renounces their pagan beliefs and submits to mass conversions. Haakon refuses the deal.
In Kattegat, Haakon gives the sacrifice of Audun (Adam John Richardson) to the Gods to get their favor in defending the city. As the Battle for Kattegat begins, Kare's forces assault the city walls, while Olaf brings the fleet into harbor. While defending Kattegat, Haakon, Altora, and Arne are killed by Kare's followers.
