When Ben and Newton head out looking for #5 in the box van, it is portrayed as having a manual transmission. But later, when #5 kidnaps Newton, the automatic shifter is clearly seen on the steering column.

When the protoypes are being shown off to the military brass at the beginning of the movie, the weather seems to change inconsistently between shots.

The bullet hole in Number 5's chest disappears in the van.

When the two buses arrive at NOVA to deliver the crowd of spectators from the testing range, the first has a blue stripe and the second red. In the next scene both are red. The first shot is also a different make and model from a different bus line as well. The blue bus is a GMC in RAI livery while the red buses are both Silver Eagle units in Trailways livery.

After Number 5 lands on top of Stephanie's truck, when it arrives at her home he is still watching from the roof. But in the shot when Stephanie is talking with Mrs Cepeda, the truck is visible in the background but Number 5 is not there. Then in the following shot of the truck, he is visible again.

Stephanie shows Number 5 the sun in the morning. However, they are looking west over the Pacific Ocean, so they are watching the sun setting, not rising.

In the scene where #5 hi jacks the NOVA van & disarms the guard, he makes reference the the gun being "Colt .45, semi-automatic". The gun in the scene was a Sig Sauer P226. Of course Sig did have a .45 ACP caliber pistol of same size (P220) & #5 could have been referring to it being a .45 ACP (ACP=Automatic Colt Pistol), but the bore of the barrel was smaller & quite likely the 9mm Sig Sauer P226.

During the chase for Number Five, a soldier mentions driving to the top of Mt. St. Helens. There were no roads to the summit of Mt. St. Helens even before the eruption in 1980.

Before Number 5 steals Stephanie's van, he rapidly reads through the owner's manual, but that wouldn't actually tell him how to drive.

The lightning strike that hit the power lines should not have affected Number 5 because it was mentioned he was connected to a generator which would be completely isolated from the power grid.

The robots' lasers are powerful enough to destroy tank armor, yet a 2-inch-thick granite stone is enough to block the beam when Number 5 uses it for protection. This is because the other robots were instructed to capture Number 5, not to destroy him, so they wouldn't use their lasers at full strength. They can indeed control the power of their lasers, as Number 5 demonstrates while shooting Frank's clothes without hurting him.

If Newton Crosby had indeed quit NOVA, he would not have still been driving a company van at the end of the movie. As a terminated employee, he would have had to report to the security department, which would have confiscated all the company property. However, he is never shown to quit formally. He and Stephanie are only shown to take the van and drive away. There is no indication that they stopped anywhere on the way. Yes, it could be argued that they technically stole the van and might have been in trouble for it later, but that's a completely different story.

When Frank lifts the glass of orange juice off the tray there is some resistance at first, probably from the magnet or adhesive used to keep the glass from sliding off during filming.

The military men used in the robot demonstration are supposed to be dummies. But the man in the tank can be seen tilting his head forward just before it fires.

The wires on which the robot arm that Crosby manipulates to play the keyboard is suspended are visible.

When Newton is driving the NOVA cube van at night, Ben reaches over to turn on the headlamps, but the switch on GM based vans and cab-and-chassis is located to the left of the steering column - totally out of reach of the passenger.

When No.5 is being shot at and he leaps from the rear of the NOVA van, on impact his left track breaks and peels off.

Newton uses a Macintosh computer in his lab with a color screen. In 1986 the only Macintosh models available had monochrome screens. Apple would not release a compact Macintosh with in-built color screen until 1993.

When Crosby manipulates the robot arm to play the keyboard, the keys the robot fingers are pressing do not correspond to the notes that we hear.

When Stephenie first sees Number 5 and says "I knew they'd pick me! I just knew it!" the sound is slightly our of sync with her mouth movements.

Just after Number 5 supposedly pulls the ripcord for his parachute, the static line and pilot chute can be seen attached to the bridge.

After Frank is knocked down with the tray, the arms of the person operating Johnny 5 can be seen as the robot turns to run.

When Number 5 is seen leaving in the back of the garbage truck, there is another guard that is at the gate that is watching in the direction of the rear of the garbage truck. When Number 5 is seen raising his head, this guard would have clearly seen and identified him.

No explanation is given as to how Stephanie and Crosby were able to leave while under arrest in a heavily guarded area. Perhaps they were allowed to leave but that doesn't help explain how they were allowed to take a company van which was stolen in the first place.

In the upper left part of the computer monitor the second time the "malfunction" message is shown.

On both front fenders of Stephanie's van, "Parties Catered" is misspelled. Perhaps Stephanie made the mistake herself or the filmmakers just didn't notice it, but sure enough, the van says "Partys Catered".

When #5 grabs some rope at the cabin, he says, "3/4 inch double braid". The rope is actually 3 strand construction.

The robot is not remotely big and heavy enough to contain a power supply that would enable it to keep going for as long as it does, never mind powering its laser (which in itself is also too small and light by several orders of magnitude to achieve the kind of power output shown.)
