A professor of science in the UK, Oliver Richards, is suffering with depression after the loss of his family, and tries desperately to see them again, by all means.

On a trip to the seaside with Arthur Terry is asked to mind a race-horse called Pelmet and is happy to do so when he meets Jocelyn, the attractive female jockey. However it is stable girl Rita who takes a shine to the minder and her ex-husband who proves to be part of a scam involving the horse.

Neville owns a Blackpool fish and chip shop when he is brought the news that his father has just died and left him Littlehampton rock factory. He is now a part-owner of the factory but it is running at a loss and the bank wants its money.

Neville looks for a way to increase sales and decides to have a cross-channel swim to publicise the company. He organises a training session down at the sea but it turns out none of the staff, including Neville, can swim.

When Dennis is persuaded to take a holiday by the sea, his father goes too and takes the cure. However, much to the horror of elderly residents of a certain hotel, the sea air revives the spirits in both father and son!
