The Happening (2008)

Mother Natures revenge

This movie gets a lot of stick... M Night has as many misses as he does hits.. granted when he's missed he's often missed big time and by a margin. However it would be an injustice to whitewash over his hits... the sixth sense was legendary, one of the best ghost stories of all time... signs was amazing and one of the best ufo movies ever!!! Ok so the misses like airbender and others aren't due any fanfare but the happening I think sits somewhere in the middle.... It's not great but it's not nearly as bad as some might like to say... It has horrific moments and odd moments but the whole conclusion is worth the effort in my opinion!

Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue (2004)

Gets into it without being obtuse or arrogant

For any fan of jazz a documentary about Miles Davis is an easy sell.

Miles was famously complex as an artist and infamously complex in his life.... As a musician he remained relevant for a half century or more... This documentary is about his later years when he embraced electronics and crossed once again into the wider consciousness.... The input from Herbie Hancock, Santana, Chick Chorea and many others is sublime.... So yeah this documentary has a focus on the isle of white festival as the band played to 500000 + people... It's a great watch and gives genuine insight to this period of the great man's musical/art output... So yeah watch it....

Halloween Ends (2022)

A farcical conclusion

It's just nonsense..... I'm a huge Halloween fan.... I have loved all the quirks the franchise has sent my way...... I loved the reboot and I loved KILLS.... But this is just garbage.

Since when did Michael start making buddies?

What's going on with the lead ?????

And it was a lost opportunity with regard to Laurie I'm actually angry it's that bad..... Resurrection used to be the worst of the Halloween flicks..... not any longer!!

It's so bad it makes me sad.

Michael Myers is the scariest of all the horror heroes Freddy, Jason, leatherface, Chucky et al are all great but Michael has been the most consistently scary.... I grew up with him.... I'm about to fall out with him!' The rights return to the Akkad family after "ENDS" I look forward to their announcements !

X (II) (2022)

If you know ti west you will love this

X is a cracking good flick.... Ti West has a style and attention to detail that is purely his own thing... Building tension without the viewer even realising things are gonna get messy!!

Great performances from the crew!' Enjoy it.... It's great fun.

The Block Island Sound (2020)

The less you know going into this the better

This is a fun flick, it's a slow burn but as long as you don't know anything about it the pay off is worth it. It's mixed genre...just give it a go the drama between the characters is believable just normal folk in an abnormal situation. And please don't read reviews just watch.

Incident in a ghostland is what I consider a TRUE HORROR movie.... this movie has everything any horror fan could ever ask for!

It's also for the more resilient horror fan It's beautifully filmed and paced, with perfect audio etc One of director's other big movies is martyrs.

If you like this then check that....

Frank of Ireland (2021)

What a talented family the Gleesons are!! Great comedy with laugh out loud humour, pleasantly quirky without relying on it.... and a great insight into how we Irish can laugh wholeheartedly at ourselves!

There's a great mix of light humour dark humour and light horror and gorey horror.... from Lon Chaney srs living skull to the evil dead homage to films and techniques gone by... this is by fans for fans but is so easy to watch surely everyone could enjoy it... maybe more for film lovers than film snobs

The cast & crew writers and director must be fans of peter Jackson's early stuff but also his breakout movie the frighteners.... it's flaws are indie movie flaws and nothing more.... it's a good time and will warm your heart!

This movie is by far the best "take" on movies like the most dangerous game and all it's following versions... This is as you may have guessed a sort of hunting humans for sport.... I can't and won't divulge beyond that.... just watch it and prepare to laugh.... it's not 'sort of funny but a bit dark' It's bloody hilarious and subverts any preconceived notions you may have! All the cast put in great but not ott performances.... And I would love to high five the director!!

Strutter (2006–2007)

Criminally underrated genius comedy

I'm only writing this because I miss strutter I want him back on tv and I would like him to run for president. It's one of the funniest shows ever created and it will blow your mind with the creative swearing rants of this monster of a tv host!! I hope mr Kaye reads this and let's mike out for one last rampage!!!

Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023)

If you once doubted

If like me back in the day you heard that Star Trek was getting rebooted with TNG and like me you had your doubts.... then this feels similar Back then our sexy cool Kirk was getting replaced with an older bald and more diplomatic captain..... his name was and is Picard. Now the bald super cool Picard is getting replaced simply by his older self much like we saw with the original series as they moved into the long slew of good bad and great movies run. This is new trek.... but it's also so damned neck deep in all the lore true trekkers love and if you know your trek especially TNG this will blow your mind.... encounter at far point was only the beginning

Tommy (1975)

I'm as old as this movie film and I'm still learning from it

This isn't just a movie or indeed a musical... it's more than both... I have a pinball table in my home... why? Because of this movie and it's message... Tommy gets under your skin... it will shape you if you are lucky enough to see it at an impressionable age... Oliver reed singing and acting his crazy heart out!! Tommy is more than a rock opera... Tommy is an analogy for the rollercoaster of life (or indeed a round on a pinball table) What can happen for good bad and indifferent in a lifetime... is thrown at you in this run time of rock perfection alongside the twisted vision of one of the greatest directors of our time!!

The Furies (2019)

Enjoy this movie for what it is an 80's slasher throwback mixed with a wacky back story and more than a sprinkling of wolf creek type Aussie vibes and some great gorey kills! Great fun!!

The Hoard (2018)

All credit to the cast and crew they put their all into it.... It feels like one long introduction to maybe something... a bit like the shows it's a parody of. However just like the shows it's taking the pxss out of it never succeeds in creating the pay off that the everlasting build up sort of promises..... Maybe seek out the classic scam tv event from uk Ghostwatch... I want to say great things about this movie because it's so close to nailing it.... so I will finish with ambiguity.... see for yourselves.... temper your expectations

Bad Day for the Cut (2017)

Cracking little flick that takes you by surprise

This is one I discovered on Netflix a couple of nights ago. It's hard not to like it the characters are fleshed out well and the lead has an disarming manner about him that makes him almost like a reluctant hero albeit in full on revenge mode. I don't want to give anything away but if you know anything of life in Northern Ireland then you know why some aspects of this film just had to make you laugh or grin or grimace. The Irish are taskmasters at dark or 'gallows' humour. This is well directed and well observed and deserves your time.

Slaughterhouse Rulez (2018)

Lost potential

Has everything it needed but it just doesn't quite gel together. My expectations were realistic based on what I had read previously but it still didn't quite scratch the itch I had. That said it's not the worst way to waste an afternoon!
