Late Night with the Devil (2023)
How Interesting and fun!
What a unique and fun film! As a horror fan, if you like stuff like Youtube Analog Horror, WNUF 1 and 2, Ghostwatch, etc., then this is for you. Frightfully entertaining, it goes back and forth on what may or may not be real. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for the duration. Like this year's "Destroy all neighbors," it's a horror film that is different, challenges the watcher, and is just a fun ride through and through. With a lot of horror these days, you watch, you know the notes, and it ends and you've seen nothing very new. There may be some standard notes here (shady deals, creepy kids, devil church) but I didn't feel like I was watching a formula. The ending, which may be dissatisfying to some viewers, isn't what I expected, and these days, sometimes that's worth the watch entirely. I maintain it's a good ending, it's supposed to be a mystery what happened that night! Let it be a mystery what actually happened between the cuts. David carried the movie, and the other actors were fabulous!
Keep an eye on the mirrors!
In Gramps' Shoes (2014)
Study in Narcissism
This "movie" would be great for psych students looking to study narcissism. The main character, played by the writer, who clearly has issues with his daughter in real life, displays a complete lack of self aware behavior and narcissism leading into a messiah complex where he literally dies for his family in an imitation of Christ. All he's missing is a cross.
It would be very sad, but this man's hurtful ideology has very real world implications that have extended to his own family and he still can't see it.
Right to Believe (2014)
A Movie for the Bigoted Idiot in Your Life
A shockingly poorly made film, it looks like it was shot in the early days of Youtube creators before they made decent cameras, the film is basically "Why can't I say the word f*g? I have a gay friend!"
The movie asks the simple question, "Should I do my job if I disagree with gay people being able to exist in groups?" It doesn't help that the lead actor looks like the guy in a gay pornography who swears it's his first time - and when you consider the relationship and looks of the wife, I'm fairly convinced his homophobia doth protest too much. As with most homophobes.
The film doesn't even argue well - with itself! The most redeeming character is the gay one, who gets the best arguments, but since the bigots have no real answers anymore other than "'cause Jesus," there's no actual debate.
The real question should be, "If I can't write an article that says, "The Gay Pride Parade will be here at this time," do I need to be a journalist?" He wasn't asked to write, "Here's why I must love gay people," although he whimpers and whines his way through the film like he was personally asked to engage in gay sex.
A poorly made film, poorly written, that can't even make it's own argument. What a shame these people don't have enough introspection to be ashamed to show themselves in public.
The Unexpected Bar Mitzvah (2015)
To Quote the GAM Cast...
This whole movie is basically "Friends don't let friends be Jewish."
These people would have happily worked in Hitler's propaganda department making films about how burning them is actually saving Jews from themselves.
