The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024)
What kind of snuff movie is this?
Has good quality traits of a classic horror but come on.
I have had more substance in a ready meal.
Creepy cottage, guy that needs an inhaler, we know where this is going. People that look slightly like wannabes from the shining handing out religious / cult leaflets but with no consequence. Creaky floorboards etc.
We are missing a dog that has been impaled I reckon.
How he found a gun in the dark, knew how to use it fully loaded is beyond me.
The conclusion, we shall wait for it. The acting wasn't terrible but how this got commissioned in the first place gives me hope. The beginning suggests that this is a true story.
Well...
Girl in the Basement (2021)
Wait, what?
How come Thomas looks about 17 when he was born 14 years into captivity?! Surely he should be 6 at the end of the film?
Also, the basement kids have a curiously accomplished vocabulary...
Stefanie Scott does a marvellous job being believable which is remarkable considering the questionable script and hapless direction. Her supporting actors didn't have much to them either.
This is completely watchable however I probably wouldn't have given it a chance had I not known it was based on truth as essentially is lacks substance, however disturbing.
The antagoniser, Don, is quite a weak contender therefore I don't really buy into he his punishing attributes which is a shame as the story is an important one which deserves a bit of extra care.
The Undeclared War (2022)
I feel like something is missing...
Mark Rylance is exemplary in this, as always.
I can't help but feel as though it was a little unfinished... Perhaps it's me, I thought the ending needed to be more clear cut.
The Guilty (2021)
This is a showcase for Jake
Jake is outstanding as always and the premise is excellent but I cannot forgive the whining down the phone from the off. Highly irritating.
Game Night (2018)
Great story with great comedy
Always a massive fan of Bateman, but the lack of chemistry between himself and McAdams really showed. Jesse Plemons really shined through.
It is laugh a minute. Fully recommend.
Urban Myths (2017)
So thoroughly bad, it's good.
I have never laughed my way through a "thriller" before. There is no substance, barely a story, the acting is deplorable, as is the direction. It is a farce.
At one point I thought the guy in the wolf suit (which to me, looked like a chicken outfit, estranged from a local fancy dress party) had walked into shot by accident.
These nonsense characters continue to let themselves into random houses with no explanation. And we forget about Tom, poor Tom where at the beginning of the film was at his wits end. Having said that he probably wasn't allowed back on set having failed at the Ham school of acting.
What on earth happened to the Labrador that they so gleefully discovered? Needless to say, the continuity department want shooting.
