"Pulp Fiction", Russian style

Essentially, it's a remake of Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction", picturing wild capitalism of post-perestroika Russia. The plot evolves around lost briefcase full of money. At least two gangs and the cops are hunting for the treasure. The owner is shot and dying. The doctor who treated him is primary suspect and is being hunted by everyone. Looks like a no escape situation, but... everything is going to be OK, and there will be tons of decent black humor.

A solid mystical thriller

After World War II, a veteran takes a job as a cop in a remote rural area. Mysterious deaths occur one by one. Some people see a werewolf, and the whole little town is scared to death. Our veteran undertakes a thorough and adventurous investigation, and what do you think? nothing mystical, just greed and power protecting something very valuable hidden in the area. The movie also shows pretty realistic picture of the post war life.

Naive old comedy

This naive old comedy is a landmark of Russian cinema. The humor is mostly Charlie Chaplin style (cake in the face etc.), however many verbal jokes from this comedy have made it into everyday language. There are three novels in this movie: one about a convict doing community service hand by hand with a student with orthogonal morale, another about college students cheating, and the last one about a trio of junks (the famous Russian comedians Nikulin, Vitsin, and Morgunov) staging a burglary to cover the real one.

Things change when he meets a mysterious poison artist, who apparently knows thousands years of dark secrets as if he was there, and he tells those stories... Mafia tries to return the goods, KGB tries to catch mafia, and our hero struggles in between. Tons of great humor. I mean, there always have been geniuses in Russian cinema, but one cannot live on caviar - needs daily bread, too. This action shows a young professional boxer who loses his vision and then must save the world and his love. And blind he does. Young con artist with rather nice personality gets in trouble gathering long lost foreign relatives together. Absolutely hilarious comedy, close in style to "12 chairs".

Azazel (2002 TV Movie)

Entertaining and well directed

Investigating a trivial suicide, young detective runs into a worldwide conspiracy... The plot unfolds steadily during the whole movie, and you would never guess who pulls the strings. The cast is top notch. Non an Oscar class, but still a very entertaining and well directed movie.

The goal of this movie project was obviously to commercialize on the popularity of books by Sergey Lukjanenko. It now goes worldwide with the 20th Century Fox as distributor for the "Night Watch", "Day Watch" and the "Twilight Watch" to follow.
