Gravity Falls (2012)
Watch Gravity Falls!
I had always heard that Gravity Falls was a great show, but I didn't watch it till recently. And it's AMAZING.
I love the humor in this show. There's jokes for both the younger and the older audience, which is part of the reason so many people enjoyed this show. The self-aware jokes (like when Stan was talking about Duck-Tective and said that the show "has a big mystery element, and a lot of humor that goes over kids' heads.") were just HILARIOUS.
The humor is also always balanced well with the mystery, which is what the show is at its core. Especially during the end of Season 1 and throughout Season 2, we got to learn about Stan's connection to the weirdness in Gravity Falls.
But I think the main thing that I enjoyed about the show was the characters and their relationships. The brother/sister relationship that Dipper and Mabel has throughout the series was incredible to watch. I loved seeing them fight and then make up afterwards, watching them solve mysteries together, and help each other out. Not going to spoil anything, but the scene with them in Weirdmageddon pt. 2 actually had me feeling emotional.
The side characters and side stories were always enjoyable to watch. I love that those side characters were also often mentioned, there in the background, or turned out to have more important roles later on.
Above all, this show was interesting, funny, and relate able. Each episode had a moral, whether it be about growing up or realizing your identity. I'm going to miss Gravity Falls. It's one of those shows where you're left wondering, what happened afterwards?...
Also, the theme song is just fantastic. The voice actors too. Oh, and plot twists? God I wish it hadn't ended.
Talking Tom & Friends (2014)
Fun, easy to watch show
I found this show on Netflix one day and remembered seeing the Talking Tom game in the app store. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can say I was pleasantly surprised. Each episode has a different, unique plot so it never gets boring. However, the episodes do have some level of continuity. The plot is pretty interesting for a kids cartoon. The basic concept is also fairly interesting-Tom and Ben, who have extremely different personalities, own a tech company, which they run from the garage they live in. Along with them is Hank, who is mostly there for comedic purposes and moral support, Ginger, a troublesome 7-year old who hangs out at the garage, and Angela, an aspiring singer and Tom's love interest. This unique cast of characters really work well together. I won't get too much into the characters and plot, because that would contain "spoilers". However, there isn't much to spoil. It's a very easy to watch, binge-able show (each episode is only around 11 minutes) and I really appreciate the work that goes into making the series. If you go into how based in reality the show is or how the show could've been better, it wouldn't be Talking Tom and Friends. But enough said, if you have young children (or a couple hours to spare), give it a try. Hope this helped.
