The Republic of Sarah (2021)
Good potential
The pilot was a crowded mess of jumbled storylines and too many characters. However, the show has potential to be really good if it slows down and focuses on characters rather than checking all the boxes and cramming unnecessary characters and plot lines into the canvas.
Locke & Key (2020)
Boring
I expected a lot more from this with all the hype. I found this to be bland and boring and stopped a few eps in. Are the comics this boring? Curious if they follow closely because I have not read them.
Wynonna Earp (2016)
No clue why people love this show
This is one of the worst shows I have ever seen. S1 was a bit of fun but after that the show lost all coherency and plot.
October Faction (2020)
Could have been better
I only gave this a 7 because it didn't deserve all the 1 ratings. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. It was meant to be a campy fun show and it was a campy fun show. The biggest problem I saw was the casting. It was like someone said let's do a Supernatural comic thriller with 4 weak actors who have zero onscreen chemistry and see if we can succeed. Tamara Taylor was ok but she wasn't great. Some of this might have been her lack of a good partner. Mackenzie's dry acting style was ill fitted for the show. I am not sure what the thinking was behind his casting but it was a huge mistake. The kids were just dull and unlikable and looked far too old to be running around a high school. I started hitting the FF thru all the teen scenes. They were just bad. I still am not sure if this was a show meant for adults or teens given all the focus on the twins and their sexuality. Adults don't want teen drama. I am not opposed to gay characters but the gay romance should have been written for adult characters not the teens.
Surprisingly there is talent in the supporting cast. I was not familiar with Maxim Roy but she was a strong supporting. Megan Follows carried Reign, a campy historical fiction, through 4 seasons and she could this if allowed. Wendy Crewson and Stephen McHattie are both solid actors. Sadly most of the airtime went to the boring teen scene and lackluster family of 4.
Does this deserve a s2? Probably
Would I watch? Not sure. They are going to have to backburn some leads ( omit most of the teen garbage) and bring forward some solid acting to drive the story to have me on board for s2.
