Leave the World Behind (2023)
Give it 5 years
The move is not an action packed apocalyptic type movie, nor a tense thriller. If you are looking for that check elsewhere. This is a character building movie about the throws of humanity and it does a decent job of showing what real pressure and uncertainty of humans looks like. The real scary part about the movie is the reality of it. I would have to say, I would not mind a sequel to find out what happens now that the characters have been established. If this movie isn't to your taste, you apparently also disliked 1984, Terminator, and Contagion. It may seem like a far fetched plot, and as many reviews say "a slow burn to nothing" but if you look at the past 10 years, life has really seemed to imitate art. Just look at the executive producers. Maybe they are trying to tell us something?
Prepper (2016)
Worth a watch
Usually I would not suggest watching a movie of this quality but, it actually told a pretty good story. If you are a person getting into prepping it is a pretty good example of the initial feelings and steps you might go through, albeit told through stereotypes and some comedy. For all the people posting it is "unrealistic" or "terrible show of firearms uses and food storage" these people have been in the game for to long.
This is not an easy subject to put to paper and try to explain. Not to mention to hold your attention for any length of time. Really how else do you write a movie about buying foodstock and learning skills to prepare for something? Here is a test. Go look at the military budget or your state budget line by line and write a movie. That's most of prepping.
Sure the production wasn't top notch and the script was pretty bad, but once you saw through that and got through the first 20 minutes the script started to evolve, and get better, you got kind of pulled into the story. I have to imagine the script was getting edited as the movie went along. Now as far as the progression of the main characters through the movie was pretty spot on for the progression of prepping. Especially if you are just starting out and you go all in watching youtube videos like everyone on earth does when getting onto a new lifestyle.
This movie literally went in line with what you are told in every youtube vid. First the main character see stuff going on in the world, then talks to wife and gets here to buy in, then you buy a little extra food and water, then you go and buy some gear, then you get protection, then you tell people in a round about way and feel people out, then SHTF. I compare it to when you (an adult) start a new sport league and you just have to consume every bit of media, especially movies, so you feel justified in your decision. When a 40 y/o man joins a hockey league and spends his weekends watching his new favorite movies Slapshot and the Mighty Ducks Trilogy or an over the hill guy starts mens slowpitch softball and he spends all week watching The Bad News Bears over and over , you know what im saying.
If you are thinking about starting a prepper type lifestyle or better yet wondering what it is like to start, this movie is a definite watch. If you have no interest in the subject or are years in (professional prepper) you probably want to skip.
The Conjuring (2013)
Is it any good?
I live in RI, and I make deliveries for a living so I'm at the house at least once a week. Is this movie any good? I've never seen it but, think I should because the visitors there allways say "Isn't this awesome? This is the Conjuring House." I remember when it came out it was in the news about people trespassing on the property. The new owners have done a bunch of work and the place looks great I must say. Only thing I've ever experienced there, was someone must of had one of those static machines from the ghost shows because when I pulled in, my phone that I use for a radio started making that noise. So someone please let me know if this movie is worth renting? Thanks!
Day Shift (2022)
Good action, poor acting.
This movie came off as a Dusk till Dawn meets Beverly Hills Cop. The action was great and the movie was fast pased, but the plot holes where to heavy (it should of been a few days instead of a week, he had enough stuff in his storage to cover cost for kid). The comedy was good but, felt forced at some points and Snoop Dog, though funny probably could of broke away from his Trademark a little more. There are some good easter eggs like pics on wall in Union hall, and movie references. All in all worth a watch vs. Some of the garbage that has come out lately. As long as you go into with a B type horror movie expectation you will be pleasantly surprised with the visuals and budget, but on par with the acting and script.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
Wow
This is literally a woke talking point made into a movie. I understand with the route Disney is taking but, this is bad. The script is just a progressive talking point. I don't mean like Jungle Cruise were a few were thrown in sneaky but in a slapstick joke manner. The movie is just one legit far left talking point after another. Like every scene cut is a setup for it. It's pretty pathetic unless your into that then it's a perfect echo chamber for you to watch.
The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter (2018)
Suprising
I thought the movie was quite good. If your looking for an action packed movie look elsewhere. A father son bonding type movie in a hunting setting. The layout is actually pretty true to a hunting type predicament. A dad tries to reconnect with his son and show him the beuty of the natural world, and what he does for a living, while the son doesn't really want any of it but tries at some points. Danny McBride played a good, sometimes vulgar but, not over the top comedic relief. At some points in the film the acting feels forced, but when you look at the whole of the movie, it actually would be that way in real life because of the situation the characters are in. Ex alcoholic dad who is never there trying to reconnect with his son. All in all it's a good coming of age, father/son bonding, nature vs. technology type movie. It's also a great movie for a hunter especially slightly older one. They will say it hits the nail on the head.
