Long Story Short (2021)
Beautiful little gem
This is literally my 3rd review of a movie during the 15 years I've had an IMDB account.
This movie was incredible. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but the overall message it delivers is so powerful and true.
Rafe Spall is brilliant, I've always liked him as an actor but I feel he really excels here, delivering a great performance that you can really relate to.
If you fancy a cross between Groundhog Day and Richard Curtis' About Time, then you need to watch this. Great film that I'm so glad I watched.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
I had to turn it off
I really wanted to like this film. Knocked Up was one of my favourite movies for years, I love the sequel too, This Is 40. I watched it for half an hour, didn't laugh once and thought it was so slow and boring. Literally nothing happens. Sadly, either I've grown up and this kind of humour just isn't funny any more or Judd Apatow has lost it. This is my first 1 star review, I literally couldn't finish it.
The Class (2006)
Nice, light hearted comedy...
When I first started watching 'The Class', I didn't connect with all the characters straight away. As the season progressed and the characters opened up, it didn't take long for them to grow on me.
As a fan of 'Friends', I can't say that this matches it completely but I have to say it comes close. The jokes are rather similar, using a lot of sarcasm along the way, and a few scenes have made me laugh out loud. However, as you may expect, some of the gags were rather a cliché and obvious. I like the lack of music during scene changes, it makes the show feel less like the usual US sitcom and makes a change from 'Friends'. The laughter track lets it down a little although some scenes would appear quite empty without it.
My personal favourite has to be Richie Velch. He has made me laugh the most and I enjoy his sarcasm, in some ways he is like Chandler from 'Friends'. However, I managed to find a connection with all of the characters and felt for them when things didn't go quite the way they wanted.
Overall, I would recommend 'The Class' to anyone who enjoys a light hearted comedy, it has something for everyone and will make anticipate the next episode. It's not perfect but it deserves at least an 8/10 from me and I really hope it returns for a second season.
