The Hustle (2019)
How did this get made
I am sure this re-make seemed a great idea but sadly that failed to transition into the finished product. Wilson is desperate and Hathaway so much better than this. Neither is helped by a woeful script. Appalling.
COBRA: Blackout 1 (2020)
Good idea but sinks quickly
The basic idea behind this is sound, albeit another take on the "collapse of civilisation and the consequences" stories which have been ever popular since the 1950s.
Early promise is, however, quickly swamped by the introduction of several sub stories which are human interest as opposed to having anything to do with the main narrative, and very quickly viewers will probably decide they couldn't care less what happens to the individuals concerned.
To many of the plots twists are advertised without much disguise in the minutes before they happen, and the baddies could not be more obvious if they wore badges to that effect.
I made it through two episodes (only managing the second to see if it might get better ... it got worse) and then gave up.
House of Cards: Chapter 73 (2018)
Cards come tumbling down
Had they ended this after series five it would have been frustrating but hugely better than serving up the dribble of the final episodes. What had been a TV epic overnight became victim of dreadful scripts, woeful plots and long-term characters transformed into shallow and contradictory versions of themselves.
The nadir was the finale which was utterly unbelievable throughout with a script so lame it was embarrassing.
A shame for all involved and those at Netflix who thought this was a good idea especially.
Departure (2019)
Utterly appalling
This series is so truly appalling as to be worth watching, if only as an object lesson in how not to make a drama. The underlying story has real potential but it is undermined from the off by a desperate script and woeful production. Add into the mix some gaping holes in the plotline and you have a real mess. The icing on the cake is the background music which surges endlessly - hardly a scene happens without it - and you have a show not even the usually excellent Archie Panjabi can save.
