Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
So unnecessarily long
After seeing the trailers , I couldn't help but look forward to this. On paper it has everything. Aside from the performances which will clean up at the Oscars along with best picture, director, score, costume etc etc , I came out feeling flat, bored and relieved it had finished. The running time is ridiculously long and could easily have been 90 minutes shorter. It just plods along, with no surprises or tension. It tells an important story in American history but I've watched documentaries that hold my attention more. Martin Scorsese has recent history in long features and where something like Oppenheimer's similar running time flew by, this was tough to get through....... Can you imagine the directors cut.......
Good Witch (2015)
Still waiting for something...... anything to happen
My wife is watching this and it's background TV for me. I think she's on series 4 or 5 maybe even 3......who knows. But literally nothing and I mean NOTHING happens. It's totally devoid of anything. The weird bland background elevator music in the background is annoying. The 'Mayor' can't seem to avoid permanent jazz hands and the daughter I remember from Adam Sandler/Jennifer Anniston flick 'Just Go With It' , played the daughter in that but has become a hottie. Other than that, erm..... yup that's about it.
The Last Full Measure (2019)
Wasn't expecting that.
Left me really emotional. A brave brave man who did everything for brave brave men. So glad the story was told.
Blue Story (2019)
As bad as it gets
I think my headline says it all so I think i'll leave it at that.
Chesapeake Shores (2016)
Its all very 'nice'....
...but my favourite thing is the old gran's accent. That really is a wonder of wonders.
Downton Abbey (2010)
Truly awful
Having to sit through this as wife ran out of box sets whilst on lockdown. Managed to avoid when originally aired but for the life of me, I cant understand the rave reviews. It plods along with most annoying 'characters' imaginable with the exception of Dame Maggie Smith. Utter dross.
The 100 (2014)
Getting ridiculous now
I'm in lockdown and having to sit through this as my wife binge watches box sets. What started off as good premise in s1 and maybe s2 is now a predictable bore fest in s4 and there's at least another two series to go. Plot holes everywhere, regurgitated story line of adding another clan, fight, war, death etc and then some apocalyptic natural disaster around the corner. Ok to kill some time but not much else.
Extraction (2020)
Great action movie.
Nice to see Hemsworth again outside of the Marvel franchise and can really carry an action movie. Firstly I don't care about the accurate 'accents' or whether it really reflects Bangladesh or not. Looks like a 3rd world hole and a place I'll never visit anyway. Makes a change from the much used south American cartel kidnap a rich kid premise. Grab some snacks and beer and enjoy a couple of hours of action. Netflix is definitely upping their game.
Ballers (2015)
WTF happened?
I really enjoyed seasons 1 through 3. before I had a break for while. Then I watched 3 again and then 4 and 5 pretty much back to back. Russel Brand is a riot in an interview but as an actor ? S4 is just left field and became anti white propaganda that made me depressed and S5 was just something to get through. I get it now. Football is corrupt at all levels, those poor multi millionaire players really are good guys and aren't narcissists at all and all that's wrong in the world is the white man's fault. Yup, I think I summarised it quite well
1917 (2019)
Disappointing
After all the hype and the user ratings at 10/10, I couldn't wait to see this film thinking another 'Saving Private Ryan' was waiting..... Unlike SPR and the tour de force Normandy landing seen, which left me in shock, 1917 just doesn't ever get going. The only suspenseful moment was which way Benedict Cumberbatch's character was going decide. A decent enough film but a classic, not a chance.
