Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Awesome Beyond Expectations; Must See In IMAX If Possible
Not only does this absolutely awesome continuation of the fabulous Mission Impossible franchise prove to be more awesome beyond expectations, it has enough spark, energy, class, tension, humor, sights and sounds, and script that it could have spared & donated some of those attributes to make the last absolutely weak Indiana Jones movie and the yawn-inducing latest Fast & Furious be less disappointing disasters. With Maverick, and now this Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise proves he's not just a Hollywood Megastar, Cruise Is Hollywood. Plus, as someone the same age as him (that's where all resemblances end!) his physical fitness, his doing his own stunts, and above all his sheer determination & focus to learn new skills of all kinds, from dancing to helicopter stunt flying to motorcycle riding, I have to salute him as a man even more than as a fan. I saw the premiere of this in IMAX and loved it. Loved it. And loved it. You get the idea.
On a Wing and a Prayer (2023)
Crashed & Burned With Overt Preaching & Inert Acting
Other than Vantage Point or whatever it was called, I've not found Dennis Quaid to be in anything remarkable. If anything, the overdone overwrought expression has gotten worse. Heather Graham once had more potential. But in this movie it seemed like both actors were working for free or for favors called in. Even high school acting students would've been better.
And...OMG... literally... this movie was so bad, it would have taken a miracle to rate it positively. Such a bad movie could not take off with the excess baggage of obvious proselytizing. The acting was absolutely inert like the nitrogen filled into empty fuel tanks in aircraft.
Seriously, I bet reading any newspaper article of the actual events would be more compelling than this movie.

Could've Been Entertaining But Just Crashed & Burned
From the title to the blurb to the graphics on the packaging, it would be hard not to see how predictable this film is. What was totally unpredictable was how bad & ridiculously implausible, and quite frankly laughably boring a lot of the scenes and even the action was. When the lead actor also is listed as the primary producer of the movie, it usually does not lead to something worthwhile. This movie just proves that hypothesis. One expects some liberties to be taken with reality and the laws of physics, aviation, gunfire, sequences of violence, but this movie basically broke all laws of logic and physics.
Morbius (2022)
Award Worthy - For Absurdity, Cliches, Predictability, Cartoonishness
This movie shows great effort by writers, producers, actors, and director to win dozens of awards... just not in categories they'd like. Stupidity, predictability, implausibility, irrationality, cartoonishness, and so much more.
The Northman (2022)
Tortuous Slow Tedious Predictable Silly Gibberish
With a few unexpected minutes of mild interestingness, this was Tortuous Slow Tedious Predictable Silly Gibberish. So many big name actors and so much howling by humans that even my really full movie-watching German Shepherd K2 looked at me with a "WTF?" quizzical expression several times before rolling over to sleep. Smart dog. I should've done the same.
Dog (2022)
Truly Disappointing Non Drama Non Comedy Non Anything
Channing is a great actor. The dog was great. The whole movie sadly was barely average. Shallow. Contrived. Not funny. Not emotion inducing. Not interesting. Should've gone to bed rather than waste 2 hours & $6 renting it.
Finch (2021)
Finch Predictability Bankrupts Tom Hanks' Bankability
Apple's PR machine must be in overdrive to get supposed "movie 'critics'" to act as such flacks. The overdose of contrived situations, dragged out yawn-inducing attempts at sentimentality, and so much predictability that no more than a dozen monkeys typing on inexpensive word processors would be needed to recreate this with more human-interest generating dialog. Don't forget to frequently pinch yourself to stay awake through Finch. That's why I said "Finch Predictability Bankrupts Tom Hanks' Bankability!"
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Poison For Venom Name, Carnage Of Respect For Hardy's Abilities
If you loved Venom, don't watch this movie. If you respect Tom Hardy, look the other way. Sequels are almost always damaging to a great original. This one is more than devastating. The only venom was in how it poisoned the Venom name and image of the much smarter & entertaining original. The real carnage in this movie was the destruction of fans' belief that Mr. Hardy wouldn't choose to waste his talent on a third-rate movie. Just making a monster cartoonishly larger and pumping up the volume of a cacophony of often laughable scenes of demolition does not a bigger hit make. But the noise did help keep me from falling asleep from the lame, contrived, and yawn-inducing "plot"!
The Protégé (2021)
Definite 6.75 Action Flick With Good Creative Tension & Dialog
Although I'm not a huge fan of Maggie Q, she did well in this movie. Great cast, interesting plot (twists), and definitely almost 7/10 entertainment for a weekend. Interestingly one of Michael Keaton's best performances.... almost making up for that movie Birdman. Sadly, Samuel L Jackson wasn't utilized to the max, and didn't have the type of great lines that usually make his characters quotable. The unexpected delight was some of the taut and well written dialog between Maggie Q and Michael Keaton delivered very well by both.
The God Committee (2021)
More Plot, Tension, Twists, Drama Than 3 Biggest Movies Out Now
What a delightful experience. A movie with deeper characters, more plot, more tension, more emotion, more inspired performances than F9, Snake Eyes, and new Suicide Squad all combined. Must see.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
Below Average, Predictable Twists, Gaping Logic Gaps
I watched this as part of my AMC Stubs membership so I can't complain about wanting my money back. I expected to be entertained and that I got but no better than a below average level. That was low for a big budget action thriller. The best thing I can say is, it's not terrible.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
War On Originality On Yesterday's Edge Of Tomorrow
Being the same age as Tom Cruise but nowhere as dashing as him I can be forgiven if I still fantasize about stepping into his roles in Top Gun and Mission Impossible. 😊 Apparently Chris Pratt also fantasizes himself as Tom Cruise but in Edge Of Tomorrow. Even the theme, and down to the postures & styling of the poster photo. A movie that combines War On Originality and Edge Of Stupidity. What you get is a version of a movie like Cruise's film, but with a lot more cliches & predictability and a lot less originality & likability. The only reason I'm glad the film was made was that it likely provided jobs to thousands of film industry people.
F9 (2021)
It's Either 9 Bad Movies In 1, Or 9th Worst Of All Time
Growing up I wasn't in the USA so I didn't see the TV show episode where the phrase "jumped the shark" came from. But this movie, F9, jumped the shark and so much more, it may become the modern day equivalent phrase. I won't say what words F9 evokes but in polite company I'd say it's the equivalent of 9 bad movies in 1 or maybe the 9th worst movie ever made. Go only if you need something even Mystery Science Theater or Saturday Night Live couldn't parody worse than what this "movie" does to itself.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Brilliant In Every Sense. Definitely A MUST SEE Movie
To prove that Hollywood can still delight, after a string of boring recent movies respectively starring otherwise highly respected Tom Hanks, George Clooney, and Kevin Costner, I was delighted to have seen this awesome movie tonight. Everything was great. Story & plot, script & dialog, acting & direction, even the photography & locations. Loved it.
Bastille Day (2016)
Surprisingly Good, Entertaining, Worth Seeing
This 1.5 hours Idris Elba movie was more delightful and enjoyable than the latest Kevin Costner (LHG) & Tom Hanks (NOTW) movies combined. Plus, it is a great inexpensive non-travel way to (re)visit Paris. 😊
News of the World (2020)
Average, Predictable, Cliched, Uninspiring, Not Hanks Worthy!
I respect Tom Hanks as an actor who almost always picks great roles with great stories. This had neither. To save you reading an " Average, Predictable, Cliched, Uninspiring, Not IMRAN Worthy" review, 😉 ... just know that I've already said it all in the headline. "Average, Predictable, Cliched, Uninspiring, Not Hanks Worthy!"

Anna (2019)
Pleasantly Surprisingly Delightful Action Flick With Intelligent Twists
I watched this movie with the attitude that this movie would be "poor man's SALT" (joking reference to the ass-kicking political twists action flick with Angelina Jolie), which I would likely rate a 6. But despite some obvious goofs and some carelessness, in addition to the predictable turns such movies take, the intelligent twists and some clever dialogue beautifully delivered by the well chosen cast made it a definite 8 for me.
Enemy (2013)
Great Premise, Dragged To Fill Time, To Stupid End
So much potential in this movie. But the bit too esoteric personality changes and character(s) development, gaping logic flaws, and yawn inducing attempt at a pseudo-psychological-thriller felt like a tarantula poisoned 2 hours of time.
Last Passenger (2013)
Absolute Rubbish, Gaping Holes Wider Than Train Tunnel
This truly was such an absolute pile of sewage I'm doubly mad that NetFlix has gone to a stupid Thumbs Up/Down only rating system. If a negative rating were possible I would give it that there. I had to come here to IMDb to give it 1 star and save you from the misery I experienced watching this. If you're someone who expects even some basic intelligence and logic in movie plots, and situations, do not even waste 96 seconds on this abject pile of incompetently mashed cheesy clichéd ploys to work overtime to make everyone look like a suspect. A decent cast was absolutely thrown into the toilet too. Don't throw away 96 minutes of your precious time. I hope calling the movie a septic waste moving train wreck gives an idea of the stinky sludge of a movie this was.
