Before Sunset (2004)
when the moments strike again
A very sensitive but forward approach to take a lead on the prequel... but more than extending the story , its an extremely realistic treatment to the conflict of feelings and emotions which we may or might not deny to confront everyday.
If somebody touches you truly and deeply , time and space would never change the effect that person has on you. This is more pronounced by the evidence that the external changes(the shape of your life ,your deeds and the people added/deleted ) wouldn't deviate the line of sight somebody has for your true self!!! High five to the makers again for bringing this out so subtly!
Again , its commendable that the dialogues , making noise through the streets of Paris would so beautifully keep you digging to the screen. The curiosity element of the movie is alive all through and even after it. The freedom of imagination is an added feature which leaves it unbiased and non-judge-mental!
The prequel is good but this is more appealing as it traces a journey we all live through but mess up with due to our own contortions!
A must watch...but NOT BEFORE YOU WATCH THE SUNRISE! :)
Before Sunrise (1995)
moments gone by...
My watch came a little too late but am glad i watched both this and the sequel together...which makes me compliment the makers of this flick for giving such a pure and basic treatment to the idea of romanticism... and very marginally separating it from the idea of relationships! As a lot has been written about the movie already, it would just be appropriate to highlight few portions of the movie which i personally loved.
I think the point where Jesse and Celine make phony phone calls to their respective friends was a very shrewd way of telling each other what they had meant to each other through a journey not even extending 24 hrs... the curiosity of two people who both think the other has made an infallible impact on the other has been very smartly dealt with...
On the plot front , making a romantic story work on pure conversation is not an easy job to accomplish..
I believe in romantic flicks of such flavor , the characters are not clearly designed even in the writer's and director's mind. What the actors bring out is what becomes of them .. right or wrong even the idea bearers would find it difficult to justify... to become the character, the life the actor gives has to go beyond instructions and the story...here both the actors do just the RIGHT job! Kudos..!!!and Before sunset is another feather which makes this one even more beautiful!
Neal 'N' Nikki (2005)
when was the last time i wanted to run amidst a movie
Yash Chopra movies- the flavoring was long lost. Story - I was not expecting anything fresh. Direction - Refer to the first line. Cinematography - How much can you rely on the background to take you through hours of ruthless time killing!
Tanisha is too loud and exaggerated to thicken a weak plot. Uday Chopra is more than just disappointing.
Pre-marital sex is an over-talked issue which went looking too naive for the duo to pull it off well. Everything else about the story is too repetitive and too cliché to make any prominent difference to the movie , which starts stumbling in the first few minutes.
Songs seem to have been hummed too much. Lyrics are not worth getting tuned.
If there is any high point in the movie, may be its just the scenic beauty but then i would rather pay a hefty amount and visit Britain than spend hours watching a sad attempt at romance!
The freshness and the feel good effect of the yesteryear Yash Chopra mushy flicks have lost their color and charm in the crowd of new comers expecting the costly sets and the music set up to help them climb the ladders of fame!
It doesn't work anymore!
