Blacklight (2022)
Where's the ending?
Every good writer knows that I'm order to reach a good conclusion all the pieces need to fit into place. In a movie where the reporter is continually holding back on sharing an undeveloped article, the movie writers fell prey to exactly what they were trying to have their character avoid. Are all the connecting ties on the editing floor?! It seems like there's at least one missing scene toward the end of the movie.
The action is okay and there are some good fighting scenes. And while I love Liam Neesam, let's keep in my his age and stop pretending he'd be able to run down a guy in his 20s. Give me something more reasonable people!
A Royal Christmas Engagement (2020)
Oh yikes
Don't get your hopes up.
Where's the chemistry? Where's the depth of character?
I found the female lead to be unlikable. She's cold and one dimensional. Where's the warmth?
Where's the passion? Any kind of emotion would have been appreciated. Her character seemed vacant.
And where's the intelligence?!?! There was an opportunity to showcase a strong, smart, capable woman in business, but they give us this waffling wallflower who doesn't even have a single idea for a week! Good or bad! Simply nothing!
I'm not sure if the movie would have been any better with a different female lead or if it needed a better script.
Considering the plot and execution, the production value is really high. It's the kind of movie you expect to be made with minimal crew and clearly lower quality filming.
Ms. Matched (2016)
Bad. Just bad.
Not only is the premise of this movie unrealistic (and I'm writing this as someone who LOVES Hallmark movies and all their cheesiness), but the ending is awful.
The leads have way too many differences to make a marriage work. Their businesses are based off opposing viewpoints. Libby's whole life and business is wrapped up in making dream weddings. Ben's book - and his opinion - states that it's ridiculous to spend so much on a single day. You can't spend your life with someone who disagrees with your deepest conviction.
Also, I'm sorry, the couple hadn't even been dating and now the movie ends with them getting married? Supposedly within days of the decision? How did they fit the dress and the suit? Get bridesmaids and groomsmen and their outfits? Invite guests?
And how does their getting married save her business? She is still paying for the wedding!
Bad. Just bad.
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)
A loser's dream
Cute story, but unrealistic. No high school romance would ever work out this way.
Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable (2017)
MOCKumemtary
While it was beautiful, I don't appreciate the false advertising in calling this a documentary. As someone who loves documentaries I was greatly disappointed as the show ends with a "1st century statue" of Walt Disney with Mickey Mouse.
Yes, the film is a piece of art. But it is NOT a documentary.
