Di Renjie zhi Tongtian xuan an (2024)
Waning is the exact keyword for this disappointed, yet excited Detective Dee movie.
You're telling me that a fortune teller is the mastermind behind a massive family murder over a superstition? That description sums up why it's not as bad as Ghost Blood Hand, yet it's still not a good iQIYI movie. With bad story come decent action scenes and a funny behind-the-scenes clip, Jackie-Chan style. Once again, it's a different actor who took on the primary role of Di Renjie just because... The CGI visuals are quite good for a low budget Chinese flick.
In conclusion, it's a mixed bag, whether or not you'll add it to a digital collection. Personally, I'd rather move on to the next than watch it for at least a second time.
Onna Rambo (1994)
Guns, Boobs, and Nice Scenery
The first two-thirds has similar plot to The Police Story, as if it's directed by Cirio H. Santiago and produced by Roger Corman, while the third act is pure action on par with Commando, Predator, and Rambo: First Blood part 2.
Indigenous (2014)
A Brand New Horror Movie with a Twist
We've seen tons of horror films from the past filled with clichés like foreign tourists who dares to travel in an unknown place despite warnings from locals due to hidden horrors. Unlike The Blair Witch Project, this one is quite self-aware rather than preventing mystical legend of "Chupacabra" from outside world. True story: a day after watching Furious 7, I was curious about this low-budget horror film thanks to its dark background poster. Therefore, I decided to watch it alone with few audiences inside a theater. Surprisingly, while it has flaws ranging from typical horror clichés to few shortcomings, Indigenous scares me but not too much. While the entire cast is new, their acting is spot-on. Also, there's no sign of any CGI effects, only practical ones. Overall, I recommend everyone to watch this rare gem.
