Cargo (2017)
Complete Nonsense!
Classed as horror, more like comedy. Martin Freeman played it like he was back in the 'Office'.
Complete nonsense! Beginning to end!
Zombie apocalypse in Australia. Family surviving but seemingly decide ignore all the rules in the zombie handbook. Which results in wife getting bite, who then bites the husband, who then has 48 hours to get his child to safety.
What ensues on his travel is complete rubbish and almost comical. The addition of aborigines should have gave it a realistic fail but suspect they were acting extras and as such it feel unconvincing.
Only reason saw til the end as partner love anything with Zombies 😒. She gave it 7/10. 😆
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Middle of the road drivel
I frequently despair of people who rate films as 10 or 9. Very few films are 10 and 9/10 films come along as infrequently.
This film is borderline drivel. I am sure the book was a page turner aided by readers imagination etc.
The transfer to the silver screen was like a hallmark film / made for TV drama.
One word review: Implausible, another word tedious.
A girl abandoned by her mother and several siblings and left with her wife-beating dad. All done in a few takes...done and dusted
We quickly move to her growing up and generally meandering through the swamps of Carolina.
Plot. She meets her a boy, he leaves her. She meets another boy he behaves badly and roughs her up.
Now for the climax. The 2nd boy his murdered. She is charged and court trial ensues. She is acquitted.
The last 5 mins is probably worst final moments of a film I've seen for a while.
Almost laughable. Frankly I can be even bothered to explain myself further.
A generous 4 if only for the film location and some of the cinematography.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
First film watched out of lockdown... should have stayed at home!
This movie lacks any coherent storyline or explain/shows the premise of this film.
The baddies are borderline comical and any sense of suspense lapsed into incredulity.
A generous 4 for some of the cinematography and for the main character carrying this to a predicable conclusion.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
I fell asleep z z z
The opening scene of the possessed child...
Body Contortions tick
Demonic Voices tick
Furniture and stuff thrown around tick
Take me Take me says the unwitting family member ala Exorcist tick
First yawn expelled.
Followed by more facial cotortions and all th e steps and situations in the poor man's exorcist handbook... more yawns and asleep 30 mins into the film. Awoke to find i was still watching this based on a true story drivel.
Ending is bizarre and not worth the wait.
Felt like a bad made for TV movie.
Cruella (2021)
Richard Jewell does Bob Hoskins and much more....
Dragged along by 'er indoors', thinking geez 2 hours of rehashed 101 Dalmatians and not even animated. Well it didn't take long for me to unfrown my brow and my scowl to break into a smile.
Emma Stone as Cruella and Emma Thompson as a tyrannical fashion supremo... ala Devil Wears Prada but made it her own. No lookalikeys here.
Well cor blimey mate, apple n pears, bin lids and trouble and strife! Paul Hauser's aka Richard Jewell's cockney accent is worth the ticket admission on its own. 101 Dalmatians meets Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Well that's how I heard it, and it made me laugh, in a good way : )
All performances were effortless and supporting performances all added to the overall enjoyment.
It plays out as it should no big whodunit or plot twist at the end. 2 hours of Disney magic.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Waited for something to happen!
It's not for me to question why people are giving this a 10 or a 9. But do these people want character and plot development, some structure?
A mish mash of a troubled child who indulged in drug and alcohol misuse while becoming a chess genius. That really sums it up. Enjoy the 7 episodes of repetitiveness.
The Good Liar (2019)
A film of two halves
Neither half was any good. Quite pathetic revenge movie.
Not going to waste my time pointing out the films shortcomings other than unbelievable storyline told by two fine actors who must have fell on hard times or did it for joke?
Fatal Affair (2020)
Laughable!
Was there a script or was it made up as they went along?
Married women has a fling with a crazed homicidal mad man. Just fill in the blanks yourself.
Acting was dreadful and borderline comedic.
Thank God only 1hr 29m.
Gets an 1 point for some laughable moments and an additional 1 point for not dragging it out too long.
Normal People (2020)
Background noise....
Felt like background noise with some interesting sound tracks to indicate drama, sorrow or some other teenage / young adult angst.
I am sure the book is a splendid read but as a TV drama it's paint by numbers.
Cold Call (2019)
Where are the unicorns
Exactly... where are the unicorns as most of this drama is make believe.
Spoiler Alert: Main character has lost 83k and her Mother has committed suicide but you think she had last a tenner down the back of the sofa. So nonchalant and indifferent about these devastating events in ones life.
Then meets a geezer who has dedicated his life to finding this guy who commits the frauds at a support group who coincidentally was an ex boyfriend of hers at school.
Really it's just tosh.
