Persuasion (2022)
An utter disappointment
So I thought the "talk to the camera" treatment was just for the intro. Alas it continues. And I could get used to it if it wasn't for the hideous script. The awkward moments are plentiful (sliding chair, sipping cup, octopus story wtf?) and the attemps to update the language used is all sorts of wrong. I ended up disliking Anne about 15min in and it didn't improve. I can barely remember the persuasion book, so I didn't need an exact interpretation, but there was next to nothing in the film that made me think Jane Austen at all.
Mulan (2020)
Not disappointed
I really didn't know what to expect going in and I think I was all the better for it. What I wanted was a re-imagining of my favourite Disney film, something the same but different enough to hold my interest - and this is what I got. I hated the live version of Beauty and the Beast that felt word for word the same. This held all the original concepts for me but it was still an adventure. I felt the acting was great. The reviews talking about the lead actors facial expressions being bland feels unjustified - the whole idea was to try to blend in. I already expected mushu to be too gimicky to include so wasn't surprised he was missing. I think this movie is copping alot of flack but you can still enjoy it for what it is. As a young woman it still invokes all the emotions I feel when watching the cartoon version. Thankyou for bringing Mulan to the screen once more.
Interview with a Murderer (2016)
Interesting story but ruined by bias
I nearly turned this off half way through I couldn't handle the level of bias in this film. Doesn't go into the other options at all and blows up stupid comments like they're hard proof. If they wanted to turn this into solving a murder then where are the interviews and backstory about the people that actually confessed to the murder? Why don't we get the whole picture? Why don't they ask Bert why his story changed or if he took any actions simply because he was scared at being investigated? It's all he said she said but the aim of this documentary isn't to present facts it's to start up another manhunt without proof because it makes good ratings. Do I think Bert is a stand up guy? Probably not. But I hate seeing an old man persecuted by others without solid evidence based on this rubbish documentary.
