Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Came for closure, but now have so many questions
I know everyone is going to say this, and they will all be right, the whole season was rushed and this episode especially.
So I'm not going to get into things like justifying how the "victory" and Dany's speech and death and the 2 minute angry dragon cgi was meaningless and weightless. I also won't mention how it was supposed to be a finale that has it's closures everywhere (yay for Edmure!) but how I'm still missing poor Dario.
I will have to mention the small things like Jaime and Cersei dying, little did they know if they stood 5 steps to the right they would have survived the whole collapsing thing. Or other smaller details like Ghost still having fresh wounds and blood on him, while Jon was away for months. I mean he went to King's Landing, spent time in jail, then went back to the Wall, then he greets Ghost and poor wolf still has his battle wounds fresh as hell.
But there are bigger and more concerning problems too, like why does Brienne sit in the Council. Didn't she pledge to serve Sansa who is in Winterfell? Then there is Grey Worm, you know the guy who was full of rage and kept killing people in episode 5, you know the same guy who executed the lined up Lannister soldiers with a small knife, because "they are free man who served Lannisters, why not". You know the same guy who would have killed Jon with the Unsullied, because Jon intervened in said execution. So how did he go from that, to imprisoning Jon and not straight up killing him, after Dany's death? Did he kinda just forget everything? But let's say this is somehow okay. Then they made Jon join the Night's Watch, just to avoid any chance of conflict with the Unsullied. Who, just as Jon leaves King's Landing, also leave to Naath. So you know, what is up with that? Where is the conflict? Then there is Arya, you know the girl who had her whole character arc about getting back to the family, who now goes "ayy, what's west from westeros? see you guys!". I mean okay, I guess. But my biggest issue is with Bran. I know I already said in a previous review, that he will be on the throne. But the way he made it there is just stupid. He said he doesn't want to be a king. Then when it is offered to him he goes "Well that's why I came here, duh".
Okay I'm not going to name every and all mistakes. The show with 8 seasons was overall fun to watch, if only they had more time. I liked the actors, the music, most of the things were really fine, it's just these stupid small details and incosistencies...
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Oh! Wow! Shocking!!!
Ok, so let's only talk about this episode. It will contain spoilers, so beware.
I really like the acting, I can't say I like the writers.
I don't want to mix everything from 8.3 into this episode, but now I can smell the "oh, wow, shocking!" effect the writers are going for from a mile. My problem with this is, that now it's not only boring, but makes it really easy to figure everything out.
Let me show you an example of this:
Who will rule the Iron Throne?
In this episode Tyrion speaks with Bran, Bran says something along the lines of 'I don't want power'
Then Daenerys goes tyrant-ish which scares Varys, he then goes to talk things over with Tyrion, he says something like 'You know who would be a great ruler? Those who don't want to rule' (Obviously meaning Jon, who says he doesn't want to be a king, he bent the knee, etc.)
Let's put 1+1 together and add the "oh, wow, shocking" effect on top of it: Jon won't be the one on the Iron Throne, Bran will sit on it. Oh! Wow! Shocking!
Then there is the Daenerys going crazy part. It peaked in this episode, but we had signs from this season already. It's 8.3 all over again, we have made this journey to the eighth season with Dany and in this season we got surprised by her killing off poor Sam's family and NOW wanting to burn a city like the Mad King.
I get it she lost her children and friends, also war does bad things to her mental health, but still.. That's an obvious path they are going for with Dany, she will be mad, she will be dealt with and not by Cersei for sure (again, the oh, wow, shocking effect). Varys would be too much of an obvious choice (because of his talk with Tyrion), let's add the oh wow shocking effect: Jon will kill Dany.
Losing a dragon to giant arrows was foreshadowed in previous seasons already. Also that scene looked strange to me.
I'll have to admit though, the big character that was killed off wasn't that foreseeable, well maybe if you account for the fact the writers wanted to make the Mad Queen happen.
Bronn was a nice change, though I still feel like it's a lot of missed opportunities.
All in all I guess it's the best they could come up with to sum up everything in 6 episodes. I'm just sad we all waited 2 years for this.
Pornocratie: Les nouvelles multinationales du sexe (2017)
It's watchable, not too bad
I loved the first part where the general tone was 'oh, the girls have to shoot harder stuff' and 'these guys ruin these poor souls'. But the first two well known people 'in porn' shown were Woodman and Rocco, and to be honest these two guys back in the day made the hardest and most degrading stuff I've ever seen.
They also talked about how underage people are exposed to porn now, but even when there were only magazines, casettes, cds and dvds it was pretty easy to get your hand on one. Now I'm not saying those sites shouldn't have a better verfication. The method "Yes, I am over 18" is pretty bad.
Then came the vision of a shady porn empire that looks like it evades taxes. And they also take 78% of the money from I guess channels. And they don't respect the crew on a pornshoot. It was a really straightforward message. A bit onesided too. Wouldn't call this an investigation though.
Becoming Warren Buffett (2017)
Am I the only one bothered by this?
This film starts with Warren Buffet talking to some kids and saying (among other things): "...that is the only car you're going to get in your lifetime. Now what are you going to do, knowing that that's the only car you ever going to have and you love that car? You're going to take care of it, like you can not believe. Now what I'd like to suggest - You're not going to get only 1 car in your lifetime - but you're going to get one body and one mind. And that's all you're going to get, and that body and mind feels terrific now, but it has to last a lifetime."
Which in my opinion is a great start to the film, but then 19 seconds later he is seen explaining how he has been taking this same 5 min drive to work for years and he loves it because MCDONALDS.
1 hour into the film he is sipping COCACOLA from a cup saying "mmhhmmm that is really good"
No.. just, no.
