The Virtuoso (2021)
Klunky, slow and predictable
Klunky, slow and predictable story.
Monotone voice overs and what seemed like forced, bad acting. What Anthony Hopkins and David Morse were doing in this mess is beyond me.
Probably a short story that got stretched out to two hours and because of social distancing there was nobody around to stop it.
Joker (2019)
Dark and interesting story on the origin of The Joker
After watching reboots of the Bruce Wayne/Batman origins, it was interesting to see this take on the origins of The Joker.
Joaquin Phoenix is great playing the character and taking everyone down the rabbit hole of mental illness, betrayal, depression, schizophrenia and ultimately homicide. At one point, I almost felt sorry for the character as the story continues and his life got darker.
Zeroville (2019)
Weird, Quirky, Dark Film
Dark look at depression, loneliness, mental illness, living life through the fantasy lens of movies. Strange casting because all these folks usually make comedies together but interesting to see them in different material.
Repeat Offender (2018)
Good documentary about a career criminal and the detective who brought him to justice
While not your typical, flashy true crime story, this documentary of a career criminal and the detective and support team that put him away is fascinating. Most people never realize the hard work, patience and time that goes into putting a case together and then prosecuting it successfully, especially when it comes to property crimes. The numerous victims and the effect it has to know a stranger has entered your home/business and gone through your personal effects. The lengths that a career criminal will go to to get even with the people trying to bring him to justice.
This film touches on those points and is well told by Detective Nickell and the people involved in the case.
