Radio America (2015)
Radio amazing--- that tune is stuck in my head!!!!
Firstly, I have to say, whoever wrote the theme song, Radio America, has written one of the songs that you cannot get out of your head for days and weeks!!! Arghhh!!!
The film itself is very endearing. As a musician myself, I have found that this story of an up and coming band navigating the world of the music industry to be very true - to -life. The characters and the drama were handled masterfully by Christopher Showerman, who directs with ease and comfort of a seasoned director.
This film gets better with multiple viewings because the songs and characters get under your skin in a good way.
I want more!!!
Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter (2016)
A fresh take on the coming robot apocalypse
Very hard to write this without spoilers. I expected it to be standard low budget Sci-Fi fare. Didn't expect to like it, but about half way through I loved it. Where they got it right was the characters. Tracey Birdsall plays Sienna, a warrior in the wasteland who is fighting against a mysterious AI called the scourge. Confusing at first until you get to the end. Make some very valid statements about the future of AI without going down the usual territory. Very clever Sci-Fi writing and the mention of Hawking radiation (and knowing what it is) showed that the writer's did their homework. My only gripe is that the studio didn't sink a lot of money into this, but that doesn't affect my rating. Very clever Sci-Fi. Holland, the floating robot steals the show in a couple of scenes.
The Time Machine (2002)
A worthy effort to the George Pal version
With a film that has too many criticisms for changing the original narrative of H.G. Wells, I was suitably impressed and entertained. It is wonderful that the time traveler's back story was expanded upon to bring the film up to date with modern film audiences. Directed by H.G. Wells' great grandson, I think he did an amazing job of world-building.
Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964)
Legendary film
Well worth re-visiting in full HD if you have the chance. This film is a great work of art. It works like an unofficial sequel to War of the Worlds. Enemy Mine stole much from this film. Such a delight! Shot originally in Death Valley, the skies were a stark blue so they were able to change the color to a pinkish red in the edit room. They got a lot right with the science in this one
